Movies - both new and old

I think most people would say The Dark Knight is better than WALL-E, including me, because while WALL-E is the best animated movie ever and the best PIXAR movie so far, for me, I had just more pure fun, adrenaline, and on-the-edge-of-my-seat-ness in The Dark Knight. I think it’s definitely the best film of the year so far, with WALL-E coming in at an extremely close second.

Sorry if you liked WALL-E more than Dark Knight.

Obviously I loved it. Just look at my new avi.

I loved Dark Knight like 10 times better than WALL-E. Even though WALL-E is my least favorite PIxar film, It is quite debateable on which is better.

favorite part of TDK, TSS?

Please try to keep all discussion regarding The Dark Knight in its thread:

OMG!!!

I just saw the trailer for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” starring Brad Pitt as a man who is born elderly-looking and begins to age backwards.

Sounds kinda dumb, right?

NOPE!!! This movie looks like it has SOOOOO much potential at Oscar season this year. I want to see this more than I wanted to see WALL-E right now!!!

Just google it and you will not be disappointed.

Yeah, I want to see Benjamin Button, too. My sister told me about it. Looks a bit strange and sad, though.

Just saw a little film called “Henry Poole Is Here”:

Pros: This is a faith-based film that is the first one of its kind that I can really give an A+. This has really smart dialogue, the emotional quality is incredible, the cast is superb, visually striking (has a great color pallette) acting is pretty good, and it is really uplifting.

Cons: Only one very small con: the script probably sounded hokey on paper and exactly like every other faith film out there, but becuase this director turns that on its ear and makes this a balance of comedy, human drama, and spirituality, it doesn’t seem hokey at all. Really no cons for this movie.

One of the best films I’ve seen all year. BIG props to Luke Wilson and Adriana Barraza, the two best actors in this. A+. Full Price. Go see it!

I recently saw HellBoy II, and boy, was it weird. I have to admit that I loved all of the characters, including the villains, and the range of strange monsters and creatures was pretty amazing. The downside of the film was definitely the storyline though- it was simple, and pretty cheesy, but I guess it works as a film that you can just sit down and enjoy without having to think about it too much.

Hellboy 2 was one heck of a ride! It succeeds both as a popcorn flick and on artistic merit (the whole menagerie of fantastical creatures and the awe-inspiring set designs). Who could forget the Barry Manilow moment? Anyone who has seen this movie would know what I’m talking about. One of the most memorable films of the year, and among my top ten of 2008 so far.

I’ve already witnessed one of my two most anticipated movies for '08, the Dark Knight. Summed up in one word: Masterpiece. It can stand proud amongst the best crime epics of all time, and having seen the excellent Heat a month before, it is certainly comparable in terms of quality and style. I’ll post a more extensive review in the appropriate Dark Knight thread.

I think you can guess the second film I’m looking forward to. Just one more month till “Love is in the Air” Down Under!

Other films I’m looking forward to are Righteous Kill (I love police procedurals; and this is the second time Pacino and De Niro are back together again!), Burn After Reading (Brad Pitt looks hilarious!) and Eagle Eye (I also like the ‘ordinary man thrown into extraordinary situations’ genre, and Shia looks the part in this Enemy of the State-meets-Fugitive-inspired thriller.

I’m looking forward to see “The Dark Knght” it really seems great !

And for the recent but a lil’ old stuff :stuck_out_tongue: I thought that Spideman 3 was awesome, including the graphics, the story, the villains…

Pixar.rocks: If you think Spiderman 3 was cool, you will think Dark Knight is amazing. It is really that great of a movie.

Thanks for the info TSS ! I’ll watch it for sure.

Just saw “Dark Knight” AGAIN last night!!!

I think everyone gives an Oscar-caliber performance in this movie, not just Heath Ledger. Aaron Eckhart ROCKS in this movie!!!

Best films of 08 so far:

The Dark Knight

WALL-E

Henry Poole Is Here

I saw two football movies today. One of them was funny and it sucked. The other one was not so funny, yet it was amazing. I saw The Comebacks. It was just filled with random pointless humor, but i did laugh because of its stupidity. The second movie was Remember the Titans. Very powerful movie. Inspiring too.

there was so much going for Be Kind Rewind, but it turned out to be pretty mediocre.

I agree with you there, WALL-E. I usually like Jack Black, but he and the other actors put way too much effort into trying to be ‘real’, therefore making themselves seem completely unreal. It was also too long and too boring, which is unfortunate, as it could’ve been a really nice feel-good movie.

school of rock is an awesome jack black film.

I posted my review of The Dark Knight on deviantArt a few days ago, so here it is if you’d like to read it:

The Dark Knight:

After weeks and weeks of fooling around, I finally went to see The Dark Knight with my mom on my birthday. Dang… ALIVE. If you haven’t seen this film yet you haven’t lived. It is spectacularly devised, directed, and coordinated, sporting an equally impressive list of actors including Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Gary Oldman (Lt. James Gordon), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes), and, of course, the unbeatable Heath Ledger (the Joker).

Heath Ledger has set the standard as a recognizable psychopath, devious individual, and infamous craftsman in his role as the Joker. His performance is untouchable; unsurpassed; exceptionally outstanding. To say that he will be missed is an understatement; an understatement, indeed.

To date, I’ve seen the film twice, and am fully prepared to see it a third time if the opportunity presents itself. I’m not much one for comics in general, but the Batman series has always been an exception in my book, and it is now more-so than ever. Each individual/entity involved in the twisted series of that production’s events were ones that I was sympathetic towards, particularly the Joker. I really did feel for that character and his warped history; as sick as his intentions were, I did feel bad for the guy – real bad.

Some of those lines of dialogue had me thirsting for more, man. I’ve got some favorites here… I’ve gotta spill them out… (Beware of spoilers, dudes.)

[spoil]“You know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can’t savor all the little… emotions.” - Joker[/spoil]

That’s the winner. I swear, that’s one of my favorite lines – not due to its underlying nature, but because of the way Heath Ledger delivered it; he delivered it in such a sinister… tender way. Incredible… Genius…

[spoil]“This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.” - Joker[/spoil]

Oh, dude, I love that one, too! Gosh, I’ve got to see this film again…

All right. I’ll stop before I spoil everything. Seriously, though, go see it before you regret your decision to not see it. (heh)

I’m serious, man. It’s the best film I’ve seen in years…

– Mitch

I not a Batfan, so I don’t think I’ll like TDK.

WALL-E: You don’t need to be a batman fan to enjoy the Dark Knight. Heck, Batman isn’t one of my favorite SUper Heros, but the movie itself was pure genious. I speak for everyone on Pixar Planet when I say you should go watch it.
