I loved At World’s End too, although people whine about how ‘confusing and convoluted’ it is. I like the plot, it just keep twisting and turning and just when you thought you figured out where one character’s alliances lie, they pull the rug from beneath your feet. I just watched Dead Man’s Chest on Free to Air yesterday and the six-way battle (Jack, Will, Norrington, Elizabeth, Pintel and Ragetti, and the Flying Dutchman crew) for Davy Jone’s Locker, each with their own motive and purpose for obtaining the heart. At World’s End was probably full of this double-crossing and betrayals too, although it’s been a long time since I watched it so I can’t remember. I do agree with WBoon, Singapore’s cameo was awesome (although they made it look more like a Thai river market in the middle of the Amazon jungle. Singapore’s river was waaay wider than that drain canal!), and the final whirpool showdown was epic in every sense.
Right now I’m seriously stoked for Bolt and Quantum of Solace. Frustratingly again, the former only comes out in Jan in Oz (and I’m not even sure of the Sing release, as I’ll be back there then). Heck, I’d probably get to watch it on SIA’s in-flight entertainment system before it even reaches Down Under’s cinemas! I’m really interested to see whether Disney can top its amazing Meet the Robinsons, especially with jolly ol’ Lasseter at the helm.
As for Solace, let’s just say I’m a big fan of Craig as Bond since Casino Royale. I’ve only watched Brosnan’s Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day from the Bond series, so I only am used to his trademark wiseguy smirk. No, I haven’t seen Connery, Moore, Lazenby or Dalton in case you’re wondering. But Craig’s intense stare and perpetual frown brings a hard-edged tinge to his cold, ruthless killer-for-hire character, and that’s apparently what the Bond films were all about before it got all CGI and goofy for its own good. Like Batman’s much-need kick in the pants after Batman & Robin.
The trailer is as good as Royale, I loved the part where Bond takes a leap off the roof only to smack his head into the opposite wall. It’s so funny and unexpected of a hero to make a mistake when escaping his pursuers, and it makes Bond all the more human. I also like the themes of revenge and all that, and I’m really excited for the car chase as the last one was a cop-out. The film could have done with less swearing, but I guess they were trying to give it a real-world feel. At least the villians are more convincing than the far-fetched ones in earlier adventures.
I’m sooo pumped for these two films now. I’m probably going to kickstart an ad campaign on my YT channel, so stay tuned!
