Movies - both new and old

I, too, have just seen Burn After Reading, and thought it was brilliant. It isn’t my favourite Coen Brothers’ film, but I still really enjoyed it. The best character was played by Brad Pitt, who was absolutely hilarious, and as usual, Frances McDormand was just billiant. To be honest, I think all of the characters were great, and the story was complex and exciting.

I recently watched The Little Girl Down The Lane … indie film, 13-year-old Jodie Foster … was interesting, but had a little ‘wth’ ending. :stuck_out_tongue:

I also finally got Casper (on VHS) and watched it again. I’d lost my first copy.
It’s really not bad for CGI from 1995! Seriously, if it were made today, I can’t see how they would make it any more believable.

lets talk about Gettysburg…boy that movie is great…has anyone seen it?

Al-Bob: I think I have seen that movie before. I really liked watching it. It really is a great movie.

Haha, I just saw Home Alone right now, and it was so hilarious! That kid Kevin is as clever and as much of a kid mastermind as Nim from Nim’s Island or Matilda.

Just been watching The Illusionist. It’s like a dream come true when two of your favourite actors of all time are in the same film, which is why I knew I had to watch this one. It’s got Paul Giamatti, who I respect and adore, and, as one of his helpers, Jake Wood. If anyone else has watched it, Jake is the guy with orange hair. I’m in love.

The film was actually pretty good- loved the theme and general atmosphere of it, and the story isn’t half bad either.

bright dot-dasher- Yay! Home Alone! They’re like the best movies ever. I love the little kid. But I end up hating the family- what a horrible family, to leave their kid behind like that!

Home Alone is just hilarious… I loved it ! Wouldn’t mind watching it again.

Watched Independence Day on Channel 4. Some of the “subtle” References to other films weren’t so subtle.

I want to watch The Illusionist too, it was strange coincidence that it was released relatively close to another magic-related movie called The Prestige. Just like the dozen or so disaster films and animated movies that had similar themes released on the same year. (Antz - A Bug’s Life, Volcano - Dante’s Peak, Armageddon - Deep Impact, Space Chimps - Wall-E…) I find the trend of Hollywood’s accidental (or intentional?) imitation synchronicity very amusing…

I also heard both films have a twist ending! I love twist endings!

As for Home Alone, I think I remember watching Home Alone 3 when I was little. Although a lot of people may prefer the first two, at that age, I wasn’t aware of any of the prequels and enjoyed the third outing (eventhough it wasn’t Culkin) so much that I musta watched it countless times with my siblings until my parents got sick of it.

Like?

I picked the wrong week to stop smoking Cigars… [airplane]

and that HAL Startup Screen.

I haven’t watched Airplane or 2001: A Space Oddysey. But now that you mentioned it, I feel like I should…
Independence Day was cool. Also caught in on Free-To-Air 1-2 years back. The 90s was a good decade for movies.

Airplane is AWESOME.

thedriveintheatre: There’s a Home Alone 3?! How come I never heard of it…?

lizardgirl: Oh, yeah, I remember watching The Illusionist not too long ago with my family. I like movies with mysteries and twists, that keep you guessing. Amazing film.

I just watched an IFC film called The Safety of Objects … was pretty interesting, a little weird, but a bit too dramatic at times … I’ve been watching a lot of independent films lately.

And after that, Garden State came on so I finally watched the whole first part of it.

It’s the first time I’ve actually been able to sit down for movies in a long time … but I was doing my math homework whilst watching it. Amazingly, I get things done quicker with a distraction around.

WALLE-Airplane was awesome!!! The eggs, the sweat (LOL) it was all great…

I was watching Wild Things the other day, and I have to slam my iron hammer on this one, but not the iron hammer of criticism, no, no. This one deserves like the Golden Emmy Oscar Globe hammer.

When you first watch it, it really just provokes your conscience, especially the conscience of the younger members of this community, I’m sure. You’re probably thinking, ‘Should I be watching this? God, it’s so… wrong.

As you can tell, the film contains a lot of ‘inappropriate content,’ definitely not family friendly. However, when you get to the middle of the film, it’s like BAAM! OH MY FREAKING LORD! I DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING!

Excuse my shouting here, I have to emphasize how much of an impact this movie can bring.

I’ll admit, though, that this film is not positively one of the best deserving of being placed atop the top movie listings. It could have been better, some lines there could have been less cheesier (just making examples of some possible complains made), but at the end of the film, [spoil]when Neve Campbell shows up with a head full of blond hair, losing her creepy I-look-like-I-just-killed-my-freaking-family look, you would undeniably go like, “OMG! She’s still alive! C’mon!”[/spoil] The last thing you would probably expect when you first watch this film is that, the last thing you would expect is such a twist, because this just looks like an amateur movie containing ‘adult-content.’

This film can be somewhat compared to the Saw series. I was taken aback even more by Saw, of course. It was a higher level than that, but back in those days, Wild Things (especially with my dear, beloved Denise Richards starring in it) can be considered an art, a masterpiece, an ingeniously written script crafted only by the best of that time, especially for those watching it for the first time.

For those mature audiences above eighteen out there, be sure to catch this one if you haven’t. Then again, if you’re above eighteen and you haven’t caught this one, it must mean that you haven’t really caught much ‘mature’ movies lately, so I would advise otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue:

9.2/10 (needs work, but ingenuous)

I was watching bits and pieces of Scary Movie 4:laughing: I can’t believe I saw that in theatre. They’re never ‘the best’ but their certain sense of humor always shines through and they do have some rather funny bits.

Yeah, the [i:1xkf47mq]Scary Movie[/i:1xkf47mq] series was great (though I didn’t really like the last one)… till those guys started to milk the money out of [i:1xkf47mq]Date Movie[/i:1xkf47mq], [i:1xkf47mq]Meet the Spartans[/i:1xkf47mq], [i:1xkf47mq]Epic Movie[/i:1xkf47mq] and now, a movie that is what its title suggested, [i:1xkf47mq]Disaster Movie[/i:1xkf47mq]. :-\

Yeah, it’s a real shame that they carried on like that. If they’d left it at the Scary Movie films, then it would’ve been great, since they really are funny in a silly sort of way. The other ones are just not funny at all.

Ha, I guess that’s Hollywood for ya - doing the same thing over and over and over and over…
