New Up Trailer!!!!

I kind of agree with Netbug009. This trailer didn’t have the initial wow factor that I had after viewing the WALL•E full-length trailer. And it does seem more like cobbled together cool scenes. However it’s a lot better than the Monsters vs Aliens trailer, of which I found groan-worthy and childish. The Up trailer is the kind of trailer that gets better the more times you watch it, though.

Mitch - I think that image is of the house floating into/over a canyon at night.

No, I think it is a giant cave. Look at the way that the light is hitting the house, balloons, and rocks. That means that the light source, (the sun in this case), must be to the centre right of that image. And if the sun is the light source, than it would be daytime. Besides, the lighting seems to be too bright, to me, to constitute nighttime…

  • C-3PO

I couldn’t resist anymore… I watched the beggining, until Carl going downstairs.

Rachel - Yes, well, just refer to C-3PO’s post for my answer. It sure looks like a cave to me, although I can see how it could be mistaken for a canyon.

Note: There is an American television program known as The View that airs every weekday on ABC (Channel 7) from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This week, the hosts of the show are going behind-the-scenes with Disney Studios, and today, Wednesday, they interviewed John Lasseter himself. Lasseter walked onto the outside stage – which was situated outside of Disney Studios – with a handful of balloons in tow… in celebration of Up, naturally. Amidst cheers of applause, Mr. Lasseter answered various questions from the hosts, including where the creative geniuses at Pixar obtain their ideas from and what Pixar’s soon-to-be-released production, Up, centers around. A short clip from Up was shown, which featured Carl Fredrickson floating away from the suburbs in his balloon-supported residence. Here is an excerpt of dialogue from the clip:

[spoil]“So long, boys! I’ll send you a postcard from Paradise Falls!” - Carl[/spoil]

If memory serves me correctly, this is close to (if not exactly) what Mr. Fredrickson stated to the two men that you see in the first Up trailer (they were the ones who were attempting to take Carl to a retirement home/center). Although John Lasseter mentioned that this was the first time that that particular piece of footage had ever been shown to a public audience, I’m pretty sure that it was the exact same clip (or, part of a clip, rather) that was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con last summer.

Prior to this clip, a video/pictorial montage, set to the magnificent score, Define Dancing, was shown featuring images and footage from all of Pixar’s past films, including a couple of clips from Up. One video, in particular, was a piece of footage that I had never seen before, and this is what it involved:

[spoil]Carl and Russell were shown lounging on a stray log in the jungle at night. Whilst Carl wore an expression of annoyance and, perhaps, contempt, Russell, who rested on his side on top of the log, remained quite at ease, a look of utmost content plastered upon his pudgy profile.[/spoil]

Despite the fact that this new clip lasted for but a second or two, it was most adorable.

Grr. I’ve been trying to watch the episode on ABC.com all day, but their video player STINKS and constantly glitches.

EDIT: I just saw it. There are three new scenes. There’s a new shot of Carl looking out the window in the montage as well as the cute nighttime scene. And, more importantly, the full version of the house flying away. It’s quite amazing to see it with the real soundtrack and without the trailer cuts. Though the voice of Carl in “I’ll send you a postcard…” sounded out of place from me seeing the trailer so many times. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT 2: By the way, Carl’s little raspberry from the trailer isn’t in the final film. I wonder why?

And, the great boxart of the “Up” game, which the audience members went home with:

I bet that thing’s filled with spoilers…I want it! :open_mouth:

Pfff. The things I do for you people. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bryko614 - I’m glad that you managed to see the clips! And, yeah, that video game box art is awesome…

– Mitch

That box art looks great!
Is the game going to be available for all consoles?

Apparently, the game is coming out for PC/Mac, Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, and DS. If I do get it, I’ll probably get the 360 version…hopefully the graphics will be improved a bit over the demo.

I assume the demo is the base level graphics.
The only of the consoles I own is PS3 (bought it for blu ray), so I’ll be checking it out on that.

Mitch, What was shown on The View is actually new to the public. They did show a small snippet of that part in the trailers, but this is the first time they actually showed that whole part to the general public.

The only places they have shown it to before was at the San Diego Comic-Con (2008) and New York Comic-Con (2009). I attended the SD CC in 2008 and they showed the entire scene when the retirement people first show up and the whole sequence after where he is flying out of the city. Comic-Con is just not a general public thing, so yes on The View, that was the first public appearance of that part.

Thanks for the cap, Mitch!

Here’s one that’s a little less pixelated:

I’m still looking for an HD version of this broadcast. (I also want some HD caps of the Mary Poppins hat!)

Mmm. Good point. I shouldn’t assume that a preview of Up at the Comic-Con would be deemed public simply because so many people attend that event. My bad. Thanks for correcting me!

NickyTea - No problem! Thanks for posting up a less-pixelated version of that image. Nevertheless, I agree with you in that an HD video of the show should be publicly available.

I love the box art for the game! It definitely gives off a real jungle-y vibe. I don’t think I’ll buy the game itself when it’s released because, even if it is a Pixar film, games based on films are rarely as good as original games.

I’m going to try and avoid these new clips, even if they do sound very interesting. I don’t want to be spoiled too much too early.

I gave up. Yesterday I was a bit sad so I had to watch it.

Maybe I was hoping too much. I don’t like the editing oft it. It’s a bad trailer to me, it seems forced.

But what it shows… ¡¡wow!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

No words.

“[spoil]I would be happy if you stopped[/spoil]”

I agree with luke, seems a little forced, and strangely edited. Doesn’t damper my spirits though… Pumped to see it! My [spoil]biggest disappointment was seeing the villan, and his dogs. [/spoil]I would like it a little more open ended like the teaser. Gonna be great!

Although I missed watching Cars on the Disney Channel this evening, I was able to catch the entire Up trailer on the said station just a few minutes ago. Only one section of the trailer was changed. Right before you see Kevin throw Russell up into the air, a clip of Carl’s house bumping into a tree was shown. I had never seen this footage before, but it was a surprise to see it inserted into the trailer especially for its run on the Disney Channel.

The new footage itself only lasted for about two seconds, if anyone is wondering.

– Mitch

Yeah, that shot was already seen in the Oscars credits clip.

EDIT: Actually, it wasn’t, but a very similar one was shown. They probably come one right after another in the movie.

Bryko614 - You’re right. I thought that it looked familiar. Like you said, though, it wasn’t the exact clip that was shown during the Oscars, but it might as well have been… for it was only a couple of seconds long. (heheh)

By the way, there’s no need to quote a member’s entire post if that post is directly above your message. Just letting you know.

Looks like I came to the party late, but I knew of its release the Sunday before last and finally gave in to watch it last Wednesday, and now I have the time to post a detailed review. Obviously if you haven’t watched the trailer, you shouldn’t be reading this, but I’m gonna say it: SPOILERS FROM TRAILER AHEAD.

Firstly, the bad points. Like other members, I’m slightly disappointed that the trailer appeared disjointed towards the end, it didn’t wow me as much as the Wall-E or Cars trailers. The action scene glimpses were also not very exciting (with the exception of Russell being dragged off the cliff hanging from a rope, that was pretty heart-stopping). They also kept mentioning their past successes, as if we need reminding. :stuck_out_tongue: I also preferred that they used the music from the first trailer (does anyone know that track by the way?).

Other than that, it was pretty enjoyable. More new shots, and we finally we get to see Dug and Kevin.

I’m kinda liking Dug and his ‘doggish’ mannerisms like how he pants with his tongue sticking out and goes into ‘hunter poses’ whenever he spots something. It’s also interesting he doesn’t talk in the conventional talking-animal movie sense, the translator collar must be the most original idea Pixar has come up yet that I’m surprised no one has though of it before (at least, to my knowledge).

Kevin is also funny, like how she mimics Carl’s attempts to shoo her away. We don’t really learn much about her apart from the fact that she can hang from branches with her beak and can carry the duo on her back while running. I’m kinda disappointed she doesn’t speak, but I guess that opens up opportunities for some brilliant pantomime, which I’m a huge fan of. One thing though, how do the characters know she’s female? Maybe she lays an egg at one point.

I’m gonna speculate that Muntz was once a rival of Carl and that they’re probably competing to uncover a treasure or something. I think Carl has more reasons to go South than his [spoil]promise to his departed wife[/spoil].

My favourite part is of course, “Squirrel!”. It’s the way how Dug freezes and looks off-screen, then you see his tail start to wag (very good detail there!) before he turns and says “Hi” again. Reminded me of Dory’s short-term memory. Other nice bits were:

-Russell getting the door slammed on his foot (I like how he just mutters “Ow” instead of screaming),

-the lightning storm (especially in the climax, there are noticeably fewer balloons. :open_mouth: Bad news!),

-the overhead shot of the house floating over the waterfall,

-the tagline “This Summer…” (Notice the number of balloons start to decrease with each map, especially in the last portion, where you actually get a view of Southeast Asia and Malaysia!),

-Russell getting wiped across the window while Muntz yells about their whereabouts (the poor kid’s shirt look a bit tattered by this point in the movie),

and “I would be happy if you stopped” (I like how you can tell Dug is annoyed by how he turns away from Russell when he ‘said’ that).

Anyone wonders what Carl dropped from his house when he whoops joyfully? It’s the shot after Russell turns the lever while making the airplane noise.

Overall, it’s a pretty decent trailer. Gives away too much from the climax, while keeping the middle part relatively under wraps. Which can be good in a way, I guess.

Oh, and the screenshot of the Russell sleeping while Carl looks on is heartwarming. I’m betting Carl is gonna go through some major character transformation and be less of a “grumpy old man”.

Hey, yeah. I never noticed the absence of ballons throughout the trailer until you mentioned it. I don’t know why it never caught my attention before. Man, I hope there’s some good balloon-popping sequences in this film; most likely there will be, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this progression (balloons popping) is of some significance to the plot-line.

I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. It looks like a truckload of furniture. Perhaps, in an attempt to escape from Muntz and his co-horts, Carl is forced to discard of various heavy objects so as to make his house fly higher up?

Does anyone else have some kind of an Up fever or something? Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve been watching this trailer every week, and sometimes daily. :stuck_out_tongue:
