Actually his original prediction was that the rapture would occur a few days ago, the end of the world occurring on the 21st of October, but before that we’d suffer from ‘fire’ I think.
Re: beliefs, personally I don’t think beliefs are exactly a choice. It’s tied up into what you ‘feel’ to be ultimately true which is not always what you want to feel or believe is true either. I mean you can’t suddenly decide to be an atheist, christian, muslim or scientologist. It’s usually a product of your own experiences/feelings (and other peoples experiences/feelings) and how you interprate them. Which isn’t exactly always a choice in of itself either. It’s partially your own thoughts and feelings but also the environment you were raised in among other things which can eventually result in belief or losing belief. It’s pretty complicated.
Beliefs can certainly change, but not by force.

What I have heard, is that he says that May 21st was the starting of the day of judgement. So we are being judged right now. And then the fire and brimstone will happen on October 21st.
