Oscar: Best Animated Feature

My list exactly. The only one I think will have a chance against ratatouille is Surf’s Up

I don’t know much about the Oscar process, but I wonder if Le Festin has a chance for Best Song…that would be so cool to see Camille perform it there! ;o;

Welcome Anchan!

And actually there’s a fair chance of that happening.

Anchan: Welcome to Pixar Planet.

I like the idea, but wouldn’t the songs have to be in english?

Anchan - First of all, welcome to Pixar Planet!

Secondly, I agree with your statement. Hopefully, that will happen next year. Goodness known I would love to see her (Camille) perform the song on stage, as well.

Do they? I know the “Triplets of Belleville” people performed Belleville Rendez-Vous that one year…then again it might have been the English version. <__<

(Thanks for the welcomes!)

Nope - Foreign Language Songs are completely within the rules. In fact they recently made a big deal out of 2004 (ironically when the last Brad Bird film, The Incredibles, on Best Animated Feature) that a song sung entirely in Spanish, “Al Otro Lado Del Rio,” from The Motorcycle Diaries became the first ever foreign language Best Song Winner. Now that we’ve established this precedence, I think the Accademy might be very interested in giving the award to a French song.

Interestingly it would also be the first time an Animated Feature won the category since Monsters Inc in 2001 for “If I Didn’t Have You.” It would also be the longest time between animated wins in the category (six years) since Little Mermaid ushered in an era of almost guaranteed animated victories in 1989. Although prior to that you have to go all the way back to 1947 for “Zip-A-De-Doo-Da” from Song of the South and 1940 for “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinochio.

Very well then. If foreign songs can be nominated, then I think Le Festin has a strong chance.

I really hope it does, and hopefully Mr. Giacchino also gets

one for the score. So then he could win two! That would really make up for ignoring his awesome work back in '04

with The Incredibles (which I still think is among the greatest scores ever!)

As for Best Animated

Feature, I really hope this makes Brad Bird a two- time Academy Award winner, and I do think there’s a very good

chance of that. I really think the only compition comes from The Simpsons Movie, which was much better than I

thought it would be and just loved how it brought 2D animation back to the big screen! Kinda ironic if Mr. Bird

were to loose to The Simpsons, cause I’m one who believes that since he left the show (where he served as some

sort of consultant), it’s run into the ground and still wish he would have directed the movie, or maybe work on

the sequel or something.

I love Le Festin’

Out of that list I only saw (or plan on seeing) 2 of those. I cant see the Academy

giving the Oscar to the Simpsons, although I wouldnt complain if that were the case, because I really liked the

movie. But I am pulling for Ratatouille.

I am sure Ratatouille can beat the Simpsons movie. While the Simpsons movie was funny, more

popular, and successful in the box office, Ratatouille had more passion and I believe impacted more people.

Ratatouille has the award in the bag. It’s really a race for second place for Meet the

Robinsons, Simpsons, or Surf’s Up, despite that I think I enjoyed Robinsons the most overall.

I think that it will be between The Simpsons, Surf’s Up, and Ratatouille. I hope they don’t

give it to The Simpsons simply because this movie has been a long time coming… I haven’t seen Surf’s Up so I

can’t really comment, but I heard it got good reviews so it might end up being a close one.

The Simpsons Movie and Surf’s

Up are pretty much the only films I can pinpoint that would be in direct competition with

Ratatouille. Meet the Robinsons is a close-to-worthy

candidate, as well, but there’s no guarantee that that particular film will take the cake. Truth be told, I

wouldn’t be too ticked off if Surf’s Up won the prize, as I absolutely loved the

film and would rank it just a half surfboard shorter than Ratatouille as far as

story goes.

Nope, I think Ratatouille has it in the bag. Then again, you

never know. The Oscars have always been a bit fishy and “off the hook” when it comes to film

nominations and awards, but I seriously do think that the rat has it in the bag next year…

I haven’t seen Surf’s Up and The Simpsons Movie but I think that Ratatouille deserve more than a best animated picture nom! Here a list of nom categories that may include our favourite french dish:

Best Picture
Best Original Screenplay
Best Director
Best Score
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Effects Editing
Best Editing
Best Art Direction
Best Original Song
Best Animated Picture
+
Best Cinematography ( I don’t know if a CGI picture is eligible but I found no rules against )
Best voice Over Performance (this category doesn’t exist already but I hope it 'll be introduced soon, we all should promote a net campaign to start or accelerate the process chez the Academy)

To all fellow members of this venerable forum, I recently started a petition in order to convince the Academy that time has come to add a new award category: Best Voice Acting Performance.
To anyone interested in signing it here’s the link:

Welp, I would love to see that too, clabot, but I have to doubt that it’s going to get any of those - best chance would be Best Picture, 'cause it got so many great reviews.

Oh, that is a pretty intresting list. THat is more than what I could ever think of. I think it is a shame that they don’t have a “Best Voice Over Performance” or “Best Voice Actor” award for the Oscars. But they have an award for that in the annie awards.

I would love for Ratatouille to be nominated (and win!), Best Picture, but the Academy knows that people would turn their noses up at this. I really hope it at least wins Best Animated Feature - if it doesn’t, I swear to God, I will fly over to Los Angeles and protest! :smiling_imp:

Oh, and Ratatouille deserves to be nominated for, and win, every single one of the categories that claybot mentioned - I was going to single out a few categories, but I can’t because Ratatouille exceeds in each of them. If it gets nominated for any of the “optional” categories, then I will consider that a bonus, but I won’t hold my breath. :unamused: Good luck, Ratatouille and Pixar!

BTW, When are the nominations announced?

Probably not until late January/early February 2008, since they have to wait for all the 2007 movies to be released before they can start picking the nominations.
