Thx, for the information. In Germany UP (OBEN) you can see the Movie yesterday. I go intro the Movie with my Girlfriend Tomorrow
Hope you watch it more than once!
Today I was in the UP 3D, and Partly Cloudy is really funny!
Another Partly Cloudy fan. Bravo! Bravo!
Yes, It indeed a beautiful film
Couldn’t agree more. I hope there were Fluffy, I mean Gus’ plush toy. Oooh, he is so adorable!
Who knows
Umm, UP, why would you steal my icon? it makes things confusing for me.
Kyle, maybe you should PM him or post in the avatar thread, this is an awfully random topic to bring that up. Also, his avatar is slightly different, so he didn’t steal it, just found a similar one. Just pointing that out, doesn’t really change anything.
Anyway, back on topic, I’m getting a bit tired of this short, seeing it so many times in front of Up, hehe. There are much stronger shorts such as Presto, Lifted, and Knick Knack. It’s not a bad short, but it loses its charm after 45 views (yeah, it’s not the most realistic criticism, but still). I do love Michael Giacchino’s music for it though, no doubt about that!
I know its random, but I just wanted to get that out there. And its not just a similar one, it is mine, I created this logo before the real one existed, I recognise my “3”. Looks like he changed the position of my stars slightly, but its still no doubt my work. Everything else matches up exactly.
I didn’t PM because I didn’t want to be too confrontational about it. Its just weird is all.
Yes, it IS bad etiquette to use another person’s avatar without asking permission, or even using a very similar one, simply because it can make things confusing for other members, and expressing individuality is done through our avatars and signatures here. It’s technically not against the rules to take someone’s avatar and use it as your own, and it can probably happen from time to time as an honest mistake, as could be the reason in this case. But I’ll leave that to be sorted out in private, but, as always, if the issue gets out of hand, you can always PM one of the full-time moderators.
Back on topic.
I thought it was just a picture that could be found anywhere, I didn’t know it was a custom avatar. My bad. When I said it doesn’t change anything, I just meant that it looks similar, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t take yours. Sorry for the confusion.
I really like this short because it’s about friendship and loyalty. It’s also funny because it explains where [spoil]thunder and rain comes from. And babies.[/spoil] This is just a nice little short, probably in my favourites list. So well done to Peter Sohn. Hopefully he’ll get to direct a feature one day.
Couldn’t agree more Rachel. At first time I saw this short, I think it’s predictable. But I was wrong.
Personally, Partly Cloudy was more than just a short. Technically, it’s a heartwarming warm-up for the incoming [spoil]Up montage[/spoil].
Who’s with me?
I think Partly Cloudy was really very disappointing as, in my opinion, it failed in the one area I expect Pixar to excel in- story. The general idea was very sweet, of course, and I too like how it explained certain things like where [spoil]rain and thunder come from (it might me laugh so much when that poor cloud began to cry! )[/spoil] but the ‘surprise’ (that [spoil]the stork was just getting some protective gear from the other cloud and wasn’t actually abandoning his own one[/spoil]) sort of came quite quickly and then it was the end. I think it might’ve been the pacing that was off, because there’s so much build-up in order to explain the whole idea behind the short, that when you get to the emotional story of it, it has to happen really quickly.
It wasn’t terrible, of course- I loved the way it looked and Pixar’s explanation for where [spoil]babies come from[/spoil] is just so…Pixar-ish. The characters, especially the stork, were really quite endearing and it was easy to connect with them. It just didn’t flow particularly well, I don’t think.

I never want to really badmouth Pixar in any way, but personally I feel as though Partly Cloudy was more style over substance. But I don’t really see that as a bad thing, as such.
For me it looks so gorgeous and amazing to look at with the dreamy design of the clouds that I can forgive the shortcoming of the story.
But I do agree that it feels a little rushed, and I never knew that clouds were so fast to display their emotions. Although I can’t really complain, as personally I know of very few other studios who even bother to put short films before the feature.
Also, I highly praise Michael Giacchino’s score that he composed for Partly cloudy, it was beautiful!
I read a summary of this short over on Wikipedia and it seems like a little cute short. Sounds a bit mushy, but cute nontheless. Hopefully, when I go see UP 3D, I’ll be able to see this short. (Reason I’m saying this is because of stories of theatres forgetting to play the short before the film)
Partly Cloudy was one of the sweetest shorts I have ever seen! It made me laugh and almost cry. You can tell when a movie or short is good: when it makes you emotional. This short also went perfect with the movie Up. Very appropriate.
I kinda like this short, right next to BURN•E. I don’t know why, but maybe I have a thing for cloud people points to avatar picture and chuckles.
