2 dogs
2 bearded dragons
1 urimastic lizard
1

cockatoo
2 cats
4 tarantulas ( ick )
4 geckos
1 collared lizard
2 box turtles
3 frogs

total : 44 pets

 • i probably have more of this , there are too many to count !

My family

does this big pet show for birthday parties and schools ( we do the schools for free ) and we bring all of the

reptiles . about 3/4 of these pets were rescued and about 1/3 of my pets aren’t named . We just got Tooey ( the

cockatoo ) and we might put her in the show . Then again , snakes and birds do not mix .

Don’t

worry ! All of my reptiles aren’t roaming around my house . My mom would get rid of them in a heartbeat if they

did ( she hates messes ) . They are all in enclosures (?) , except the dog and cats . Another dog is at my dad’s

.

EDIT : Sorry forgot about the 3 frogs and the baby tarrantula .

Pfff. Here we go:

Pets I used to have -

 • 9 rats (eight at one time)

Wild animals that used to visit our backyard

constantly -

 • 4-6 scrubjays
 • 6-10 squirrels (first generation to fourth

generation)

 • 18 opposums (first generation to third/fourth generation)
 • 2 ground squirrels
 • 12

house mice

 • 2 woodrats
 • 10+ wildrats (Norwegian, etc.)
 • 1 frog/toad

Animals

(wild and pets) that currently visit our backyard -

 • 2 opposums (third/fourth generation)

 • 2-4 squirrels (fifth generation)

 • 2-3 scrubjays (third/fourth generation)

 • 2 house cats (my

neighbor’s cats)

Opposums - The opposums first came to our backyard not a

few years ago – a male (Amos) and a female (Angie), in succession. We fed them table scraps, yogurt, and – once

in a great while – sushi, so that they finally became comfortable enough to move into our garage. Those two got

pretty close, and they next thing we knew…Angie had seven little babies. Mom and I got to hold them (and the

mother) and took them to a rehabilitator so as they could get a few shots. They were then taken back to our home,

where Angie’s litter grew up and had another litter, which then grew up and had their own babies, which now

reside in our backyard. :stuck_out_tongue:

Angie and her litter were quite friendly to me, as were the second generation

of opposum intruders. I got them to eat from my hand, but that was as far as I ever did get.

Scrubjays - Every scrubjay that has come to our backyard has been christened

“Scrubby”, simply because it is easy to remember and because they all look alike – heheh. We have, so

far, had at least three generations of these blue and white birds visit our household, and they are all quite

friendly. Most of them will crack open a nut while standing only a couple of feet away from us, and some of them

will eat of my hand.

Squirrels - The squirrels used to be quite friendly,

until our neighbor purchased a couple of kittens…who scared all of the fuzzballs away. However, I still see one

or two visit our yard every once in a while, although…they are scared to the bone when the come in contact with

a human/predator.

In succession, the generations of extremely friendly squirrels that used to visit us

are:

First Generation - Chunky/Peanut; Jonathan; Mama

Risu
Second Generation - Pitter, Patter, and Jonathan Jr. (J.J.); Stumpy

Third Generation - Jonathan Jr. Jr. (J.J.J., or Jonathan Frederick Theodore);

various other baby squirrels
Fourth Generation - Mama and

babies
Fifth Generation - Various baby squirrels

“Stumpy”, so

named because of his short-cut tail, still visits the yard every once in a while. He was always rather

scatter-brained and didn’t like people very much. Jonathan Jr. was the friendliest of the squirrels, and would

be so bold as to go outside my window and chatter until he got his peanuts. (snigger)

When we had the

digustingly abandoned pool, a crane (or was it a heron?), a frog/tadpoles, and various other critters used to

inhabit the so-called “backyard jungle and pond”. We even had a coyote visit our yard once back

then…

We have also had to take quite a few wild animals to the vet, as they were either injured from an

attack or other threat…and needed immediate attention. The baby crow was one example – he had to stay at our

house overnight.

I guess you could just say that our backyard is like a jungle; it sure looks like one.

Not to mention, you can probably tell that my family and I are huge animal lovers.

gottalovepixar - Woah – that’s alot of pets! How do you take care of

them all? :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s a bunch of pets in one cage , more in another , and alot more cages . We clean the

cages constantly .

Whoa! GLP & Mitch you guys hav a lot of pets!

I have one American Eskimo Named

Sasha. Just wondering do you spoil your dogs,if you have some.

gottalovepixar - Ahh…I see. Yeah, I can relate to cleaning cages in a consistent

manner. My rats’ cages needed cleaning out at least two times a day, and the entire vacinity/cage needed to be

completely washed out once a week.

CarFreak - Yeah – too many. Heheh.

However, we don’t take care of the backyard critters, as they are not true pets. The most I do is feed them and

supply them with an adequate amount of water. Other than that, the only pets I have at the moment are my

neighbor’s cats (who visit constantly), and they’re not even my kitties.

LightingandSally - Oh, I love those dogs! They’re beautiful.

Sadly, I

can only handle one pet. If you give me more than one animal in my house, then I would die of exhaustion.

TSS:

Mitch:Yeah there very pretty dogs. However I hate the fact that you

constantly have to brush them.

I guess,

maybe I could take care of more than one animal in my house, I think. I mean, I have taken care of my siblings

for about my entire life. Maybe, and I said maybe, I can do it.

Just one very, very sweet and vicious cat named

Chilli.

I’ve got a

zoo.

But I shall try to list them all.

 • 4 Bulldogs
 • 3

Chihuahuas

 • 1 Pomeranian
 • 20 something cockatiels
 • 1 Amazon Parrot
 • 1 African Grey Parrot
 • 2

Leopard tortoises

 • 1 Yellow-footed tortoise
 • 1 Tarantula
 • 5 Cats
 • 1 Sand Boa

Wow. Thought

I had more. We’ve gotten rid of several over the past few years … to good homes. We have mice too, but

they’re just feeder mice.

Once we hand raised a pigeon and a squirrel. But that was years ago. We

released them. And I had rabbits at one time, but sadly the West Nile Virus killed them. Same with the Chinese

silky chickens.

I’ve also had my share of rats, mice, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, guinea pigs and

ferrets growing up. But they’ve all passed away at some point or another. They have such short life spans

I also had a live turkey for Thanksgiving one year- we didn’t eat it, but we saved it from being

killed xD It was wandering around the area and we took it in; eventually gave it to the zoo.

And I had an

African millipede at one point, but we gave it to the local zoo, and he’s now a part of their childrens’

program.

FONY : Bulldogs rock ! I have ! English Bulldog , 11 years old , and brindle /

white to be exact .

You were SO close to beating me , only off by 4 pets . Not that it’s a competition

or anything .

Wow , that’s alot of birds . Don’t ever bring 'em here . You might not get them back .

 lol

I forgot to tell u guys , one time one of my big snakes went missing , and it was on the news

and everything . Even on Regis & Kelly ! I didn’t know my stepdad yet though .

I’m sorry to hear that, GLP! I hope you find your missing snake soon!

Wow, so many animals! :open_mouth:

I love animals, and I love my pets! Currently we have

a yellow labrador retreiver, Maggie, who we bought from some dog breeder friends of ours. For an idea of her

behavior, read Marley & Me. I just finished reading it - amazing.

We

also have a tabby named Sweetheart. She has a crooked front paw. Her mother was abandoned by some people down

the street when they moved away. She was a calico - we named her Nosey. She had two other kittens, who we named

Cuddles and Oreo (Oreo was white with black spots - later named Kendall by the people who adopted her; named for

an oil company because her mother dropped the three kittens in a can of oil - accidentally. My dad and uncle

fished them out and cleaned them up.) We couldn’t find homes for the others, so we had to take them to the APL.

One of the saddest days of my life. :`-(

We also took care of a stray cat we named Gary (yes, after the

snail on Spongebob. :unamused: ) But one day he just left…

When I was younger we had a tabby named Tiger.

He was so energetic. But we had to give him away because he didn’t get along with Sweetheart. I think we just

gave him back to his original owner.

Then my sister had two gerbils, Checkers and Frisky.

Ooh! When I was a lot younger, I had four pet monarch caterpillars. I kept them in a box on our patio -

which wasn’t finished; it was just framework then. I was going to keep them and feed them until they became

butterflies, then let them go. But one day I went outside and found them all dead. :open_mouth: It was quite

traumatic. To this day, I still have no idea what happened to them.

Wow, sorry this got so long…

:unamused:

The Star Swordsman - Tell me

about it. I had a hard enough time caring for the nine rats that I had, and they are easy to take care of

compared to a dog or a cat. However, the effort is worth it. The love and attention that they give you back is

what counts…

Maybe you should think of opening one? :stuck_out_tongue:

Man, I wish I had that many animals. However, my mom would probably go ballistic if I did.

Heheh…

lizardgirl - Haha – “Chilli”. I love

the name.

gottalovepixar - Woah – it was on the news?! Gee whiz. :stuck_out_tongue:

BandGeek727 - My goodness, what a catastrophy. (Sorry for the pun – heh.)

I’m sorry about the kittens. At least you helped them out of the oil – it was better than nothing. A

cat that is loved is a happy cat.

I have yet to read Marley and Me. I saw it

at a book store and now I want it. I’ll take your word for it in that it is amazing, though. I can’t wait to

read it.

Wow – I’ve always wanted one of those! What are they like? Are they easy to care for? Do

they require lots of food?

I got my puppy two days before

Christmas last year. I got used to taking care of him four months later.

The Star

Swordsman - Haha – it took you four months, eh? I can relate to that. It takes a while, but it is

worth it.

What kind of puppy do you have, if I may ask?

I have a Yellow Lab Golden Retreiver mix.
