Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Well, SOA, clearly you’re a master pirate!

That girl is gorgeous! To me, it looks like they’re trying to create a Will/Lizzie relationship with her and the other young boy, the one who’s supposed to be a stowaway, I think? Anywho, I’m definitely super-excited to see some real nicely done mermaids in live-action (and IMAX 3D, no less). Yhe ones in Harry Potter just gave me the willies.

Yes, there will be a romantic relationship between Syrena and the boy, Philip Swift. He’s a missionary taken as a slave by Blackbeard.

Yes! Philip and Syrena! I spy an OTP in my future…

OTP? What’s that?

It means “one true pairing”. It’s like a couple that you really like.

Wow, neat! It sounds like a different sort of relationship, and I like that.

Hello, hello! I’m glad to see so much talk about the movie and the new characters we have.

Just wanted to drop in and share some new featurettes that we have out, since I haven’t seen them posted on here yet:

First, a look at how we took Pirates “From Disneyland to the Big Screen”, featuring Captain Barbossa:

Second, a little look at the “First Day of Filming” of Pirates. Quite an entrance, huh?

Oh, yes, I love both videos.

The first one, because I love Barbossa, and it’s always good to see him in his old garb.

And the second, because I believe it features part of the actual score of OST.

Thanks, Disney Movies! Updates on upcoming movies = win.

Dude, the videos are sweet! Thanks for posting it here!

I was just going to post those two videos, Disney Movies! I saw it on Twitter.

Really love Barbossa’s intro, and Jack’s entrance. This movie is going be the event of the summer.

A gigantic international banner debuted today:

The track listing of the score was released yesterday. I won’t post here because I don’t want to read them yet (sometimes the titles have spoilers).

When it’s released, I’ll have to play it without reading them, as I did with the Toy Story 3 one. 8D

They just aired the 30-second and 5-second spots on telly this evening!

For the latter, they spaced out three “5-seconds” over one commercial break. Very smart, one of the maxims of advertising is to repeat your message frequently and differently as possible for maximum audience retention!

Meh, I couldn’t wait and I read the track names. No spoilers, luckily:

  1. Guilty of Not Being Jack Sparrow
  2. Angelica
  3. The Pirate That Should Not Be
  4. On Stranger Tides
  5. Palm Tree Escape
  6. Angry and Dead Again
  7. Blackbeard
  8. Mermaids
  9. South of Heaven’s Chanting Mermaids
  10. Mutiny
  11. End Credits
  12. The Pirate That Should Not Be (Remix) [Photek]
  13. Angry and Dead Again (Remix) [Static Avenger]
  14. Palm Tree Escape (Remix) [Ki]
  15. Angelica (Remix) [Adam Freeland]

Hate the stupid remixes. Those tracks could have been part of the actual score. :imp:

Haha, me neither.

But the tracklist sometimes follows the order of appearance of the characters in a film.

Yeah, well. I already knew the order of appearance.

Well, I’m glad that there aren’t any spoilers unless you haven’t actually watched the trailer.

Soundtrack looks promising. I hope (Hans Zimmer?) pulls out all the stops for this one, because I’m a huge fan of all three films’ soundtracks and the magnificent Pirates Suite (which I always play when I’m drawing my fanworks or writing my fanfics… it’s great “mood music”).

I was having a chat with one of my mates yesterday about this summer’s movies and we were reminscing about how awesome our experience was for At World’s End in 2007 back when I was starting my bachelor degree. I remember it was one of my biggest cinema outings with my friends (there were five of us, usually I go to the movies with one or two of my family/friends)… we had a hotplate dinner where we had time to rave in anticipation of the movie. Then we entered one of the biggest cinema halls in the theatre at that time (before they constructed the big-screen but small halled V-max theatre in an attempt to milk more surcharges from us nowadays), found our seats, and sat through the trailers. And then we went for two hours of epic awesomeness. And after the show we had a great time talking about the end of the trilogy as we walked down George Street through the night.

Now four years on, and two of the five have already left the country for greener pastures. One of the remainders was the friend I was chatting with, and he told me he’s not sure if On Stranger Tides will have a similar “epic-end-of-the-world” storyline. I told him it’ll be most likely be in the vein of the first Curse of the Black Pearl movie where the protagonists go on this wild adventure with little consequence on the rest of the pirate world. We’re sort of holding out for the fourth instalment, although we feel a bit cheated by Disney’s promises that AWE would be the “last” Pirates film.

It feels a bit like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and we know how that turned out. But I’m still optimistic, and I’ll probably see it in theatres with my now three-man crew just to relive the adventure one last time before we all start going our own separate ways as grown-ups.

^ That Disney promised that AWE would be their last movie was just a rumor. They said they would most likely film at least another one way before the release of the third one. So, there’s no cheat by Disney’s part. Blame the false reports.

And, yes, OST will be on the vein of The Curse of the Black Pearl, and I think that’s the best they can do. As much as I like them all, there’s no denying AWE is the weakest, if very epic, as you said.

And, well, the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull affair just depends on the point of view. Most of the public felt disappointed, but, in turn, the critics praised it (and most people didn’t realize that). So, it was a relative success.
