Pixar Internships & Residents 2012/2013

Hi!
Im also an international student from England and I applied for the Animation intern. I was starting to get worried I hadnt heard anything back until I read some of the earlier posts
I keep checking my email like every hour (religiously)…Nothing for me yet!! Bring on the first week of May!!
Has anyone applied for the Disney Student program this year?

Im Glad there are a few animation interns on this thread  Im not alone! Yeeeaaah!!!

! What a relief! haha~

Let me know how it goes, fingers and toes crossed for you! Hopefully we’ll hear next week. Another studio said it would be about then to hear back for them so perhaps it’s the norm. It’s quite late however isn’t it? Do you think if we get accepted they’d be able to get the visa fast tracked perhaps? I would of thought it’d take a while but I know the green card usually needs a company to put you forward for it…

Hey Churroturtles!!
I will definitely let you know if I hear anything but Fingers crossed for the both of us!! I would have thought because we are international applicants they would respond alittle quicker to get everything organised but oh well…All we can do is sit and wait…thats the worse thing!!
The Visa that we would have to apply for is the H1 visa. I looked into it and it looks pretty easy to obtain as long as the institute that we are applying for (in this case Pixar!) accepts us and sponsors us.
What kind of animation do you do??

Hey there guys!!

If you had anymore questions relating to the animation internship, I think this link might help. It’s a deviant page of an animator who got the animation internship last year, and shes seems like a nice person who is active when it comes down to asking her questions

As for what kind of animation that I do, I’m primarily CG/3D Character animation (Acting/pantomime/body mechanics)~

How about you?

Keep on Rockin yal,
Wish you both the best!!
-Cheers!

Awesome!!! Thanks MontyQ! I checked it out and it answered a few questions I had. Good Link!!
Nice! How long have you been animating? Im still trying to master Maya, although I’ve worked with it for a few years its still frustrating! Im more comfortable with 2D and class myself more of a 2D animator…been drawing from ever since I can remember so I find it a little easier. And same here  Character animation - Acting, expression, form, movement  Lovin’ it!!
Looks like its just the animation interns left waiting on replies as all the PUP’s have dissappeared…? :frowning:

Hihi Roar25! thanks I’ll do the same! I thought so too, but perhaps not eh? That visa looks right to, I’m sure if we’re applicable they’d explain more about the process.

Thanks for the link MontyQ!~ I’ve checked her out before but I’d forgotten the link. She’s very helpful

I’m primarily 2D but I enjoy everything from preproduction to production. >v< I’m pretty new to animation (2-3 years) But I put in 110% When it’s possible!

Hey there Guys!!
Glad that the link could be of use to the both of you!, and any1 else who’s roaming on this thread who’s an animator.

So you do 2D you Roar25?..
Wicket stuff
I always got’a hand it to 2D animators. WIthout them, 3D character animation literally wouldn’t exists, and i’d probably be pursuing something different career wise~

As for how long, I’ve been animating since my freshmen year here at SVA (so roughly 3yrs?) Ironically though before coming to college, I kicked animation to the side after an epic fail attempt of trying to do a walk cycle on my own lol… I was just getting to know maya around that time as well, so let alone trying to navigate in the program was a living nightmare for me~
But thus far, I’m glad I stumbled upon animation once more and stuck with it. I’ve been hooked since (@>@)/ lol

Has anyone heard back from the art internship? This whole waiting process has been quite a roller coaster. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!

I’m international too and i’ve heard nothing yet from animation or art internship side… should we assume the worst or is there still a chance? :~o also nothing from Disney either, although their internship starts a bit later… I personally don’t know anyone who had a response yet so I guess they’re still in reviewing? this is so nerve wracking :open_mouth:

Wow MontyQ! Im glad you got back into animation! Although your right and everything starts on paper (2D) seems like everything is 3D so you have an awesome advantage!!
Im starting to lose my nuts on this waiting buisness though! The worse thing is that all my class mates keep asking me about it and all I keep saying back is “I still havn’t heard anything” aaaahhhhh!! hahaha!

Yeah! I also applied for the Disney student program for Animation. Nothing from them either :frowning: In the FAQ’s it does say ‘Check your status bar’ but where is this ‘status bar’? :s All I can see on the positions I’ve selected is ‘Applied’ next to it…is that normal?

Do you guys ever wonder if Pixar employee’s check this forum and laugh at all of us while we lose our heads and wait for a response  I’ll say one thing though, I’m glad I found this thread and found everyone in here to be in the same boat as me

@ Tyc002
Hey there bro!
I haven’t heard anything of the art internship, but i can assume call backs be around the same time as the rest of the internship programs since they all would be taking place around the same time~

@Beau
I also think it depends when you apply too, so i wouldn’t call it quits yet!
However, if you don’t hear back after the 2nd week of May, i guess it would be safe to think so (bc logically speaking, if the internship starts up in June, whoever gets in would need at least a month to get there u know?)

@Roar25
I can relate to how you feel bro lol
You said everyone in your class are asking you? lol daayyyyyyyyuummm…hat’s pretty intense hahaha
But hey, at least you’re getting your name out there and going for your goal. Nothing wrong with that for sure~
And In time, i know you’ll get the swing of Maya  … I know it can be intimating at first, but from my own experience, the more I work with it, i really focus my projects as if It was 2D to a degree. Obviously its a huge difference between 2d medium and 3d, but all in all, if you know what you’re doing (2D animation), the 3D will def. come. Like anything in life, it just depends on how bad and determined u are of keeping at it

Speaking of Disney though, i know that they’ll be getting back to us around the same time as pixar. Judging from when i got emails from them last yr (Sony, Pixar, Laika, Disney), they all happened around the same time (2nd week of May).

I do remember seeing the status bar for Disney last year also. However, I’m on the disney profile site now and looking at where it normally should be, but it isnt there, so I can only assume they’re just mad busy with searching through reels. I’m sure they’ll see our work one way or another lol…

I usually dont tend to go crazy if the wait is super long bc I know that even though theres a few of us on this thread talking about the pixar animation internship, they’re probably going through 5 billion reels lol.

If anything that’s bugging me about the long wait is how I have to put some NY studios that have reached out to me on hold until i hear back from Pixar, Disney n etc…

Keepin the faith strong though~
and I’m sure everyone, whether its in modeling. art, animation- we’ll all hear back soon and whether its good news or bad, we’ll all have something to chim away at over this summer. We can only get better if we just keep at it

Keep on Rockin yal,
-Cheers!

^i admire your positive attitude MontyQ, but sighhh no news yet for me and at this point it seems pretty bleak :frowning: last year I think i read that people were getting rejection letters in the 2nd week of May… this is gonna be one long week…

Anyone have any news to share???

Yeh! Thanks for the encouraging message bro!
Even as I have this thread open with one window I’m Modeling my character in maya in an another…How do you 3D people cope? lol But your right, I’ll nail it one day :frowning:

I havn’t heard anything back yet either…Not giving up any hope just yet though, untill I get the rejection letter Yeeeaaahhh!!! lol Ive been waiting for a month and a half, whats another 2 weeks gonna do, eh? :~o

Hey there guys!!
It’s great to see that you both are still hanging in there!!
As Beau said lol, it’s gona be a long week for sure. It’s going to get interesting starting from this moment on until the end of next week. So I’m right there with ya Roar25!

To answer your question though Roar bro, I say you just take it one step at a time. Granted it may seem nearly impossible when someone is barely starting out in Maya, because you can easily fall into the doubt phase and be intimated by the crazy interface and 5 billion windows lol. But really, if you just focus on one aspect of the pipeline and just keep in the back in your head that you are making progress, regardless of how it appears physically on your computer screen, you’ll be set bro. Always know that you’re not alone too!! The feeling of doubt or discouragement from trying to grasp onto something complex like Maya is plain human nature to a degree, so you can’t blame or beat yourself up for having a natural reaction to something. I can grantee if you give yourself a chance (which I know you will) you’ll be jamming away in Maya eventually.

I clearly remember when I could barely manage my way in the graph editor or let alone find a solid workflow in maya for animation (blocking in, splining, etc etc)…And those moments were seriously rough. Back then I didn’t think it was possible to fluently navigate in maya or animating let alone. Despite it all though, I KNEW that I loved animation and i seriously couldn’t see myself doing anything other than creating art.

Ironically, even though it was a truthful fact, sometimes i still felt like it wasn’t going to change anything or help me improve. But I kept that saying at heart and also sought out interviews from the professionals themselves and would read their bios and how they got into the industry.

When I did so, it became clearer and so evident that my goal is possible and that if they could do it, i could reach that level as well. I would look at the raw facts and really when you look at it, they’re human and I am as well. Physically when compared, there’s nothing different. The only difference between me and them is that they had more experience and their developed eye as an animator/artist. So that little fact alone served as an encouragement and made me believe that I’ll eventually reach my goal because it’s clearly been done and is being done by others lol.

Judging where I’m at now, I couldn’t stress how helpful those statements were to me starting out, and are till this day. A lot can happen when you have dat passion and right mind set
It wasn’t easy starting out, but it’s a guarantee if you have passion, that perspective switch will happen~

Keep on Rockin Roar25!! and you too Beau bro!
Hold true to dat passion, and the rest will fall into place~

Bests wishes for you and the rest of the animators out there!!
-Cheers!

Thanks MontyQ! This will be an interesting two weeks. Now that I know if I don’t hear back by then I can at least go on planning my summer!

Me and my friend both applied to the Art internship at Pixar. She just gave me a call telling me that she had just recieved an email saying she didn’t get in.

I haven’t gotten anything yet myself, but I hope I get an email too if I didn’t get in. Anything’s better than this waiting… I also keep fearing that maybe they might not have gotten my portfolio or that it might have gotten lost somewhere, but that’s just me being extremely paranoid…

Sorry to hear about your friend! Don’t panic, even if your portfolio didn’t turn up you’ll have filled out your resume yes? So they can’t forget you completely! They’ll answer but don’t worry It’ll have turned up, perhaps it’s how they’re working through them. If you haven’t heard back your probably still under consideration! Keep positive x

^
^
sorry to hear that as well, i also applied to the art position but i’m international and still haven’t heard anything, no acceptance or rejection email yet. seems a bit off  makes me worry that my package didn’t make it either somehow as well…
hmm actually i think this is the first rejection for the art internship i’ve heard of this year so far :open_mouth: i guess they’re on their way now??? :open_mouth:

^
Hi! Sorry about your friend, but dont loose hope, you could still get in.

I applied for the art internship and the graphic internship. The package got there at April 5 (I tracked it with FedEx), and I also applied at April 5. At this point, I’m honestly waiting for any type of response, positive or not (although I’m seriously hoping for POSITIVE!). The wait is killing me! And I just really need to have an internship because it’s part of the courses I have to take for my major to graduate, and I also dont know what I’d do if the other firms I applied to contact me back. Pixar is the only company I will turn every other company for, so I need to know! Anyone gotten a response good or bad for the art/graphic internship yet? Did you got an email, phone call? I managed to contact a former pixar intern, and she said she got it about a month and a half after she applied, and they called her out of the blue, no email etc. So, did everyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks!

-ronna

Well, here’s hoping…

Anyways, does anyone have their art portfolio online? Or does anyone have links to people’s work who have gotten into the program? I’d be curious to see what other people’s work is like.

I’d post my own work, but I don’t quite have it together online yet. I’ll get it up within the next couple of weeks though.
