Wow!!! you have some amazing work! I love the water colors and how delicate they are yet full of life! You have a very vivid imagination! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Sospanov: it seems it may not be an issue being international! I hope we’ ve got an opportunity!
Sirlupton: good luck with your applications!
Demlion: you’re too kind! I try my best with everything I do but I still have loooooong, long, loooooooooooong way to go D:
Pa1ntingpics: I don’t have a work visa! I’ve never needed one I 'm a student ! I thought if one got into the program Pixar would help the elected person a student visa… . , thanks for the compliments !
LittleTomo|: thanks! I specially enjoy playing with watercolors, I find it bring me peace .
I think I got confused. I was reading the FAQs about being international and working at Pixar for a career and it said you needed a work visa before they could hire you. For the interns, it just says you need to prove your U.S. work eligibility.
angipauly- What part of Costa Rica? Are you on the Atlantic of Pacific side? I have been to the Pacific side a long long time ago. It’s very pretty there and very very clean. As for the Visa you sometimes have to have it pre-established. What Pixar might need is to do a sponsored Visa for the internship. Where they set it up so you can only come in for a time being because of the internship.
A work Visa isn’t that hard to get but it takes time. I would think you need a Sponsor Visa. If you were staying in the US to continue working you would have to file paperwork for a Work Visa within so much time rather than a Sponsorship. You can’t get a Sponsorship unless the company plans to take you on I think.
What I am reading for a Sponsorship you file it within the country I am guessing once it is established you are going to work there.

I hope this helps. Work Visa’s are if you are going to go to the country to find work where as a Sponsorship is one where the company establishes your Visa with you to be able to work. I don’t know how Pixar handles it. If you have your Passport usually its not difficult to get these things established. I would look up US sponsorships on the safe side incase you need to file any work on your end frist to not be delayed in case you get it.
Hopefully If I make it through maketing I will be able to meet up with some of you guys. I am really thankful I joined the forum! I am loving meeting everyone.
I wonder if they are mostly still working on Pup or other groups? It’s been silent again… .______.
Yeah, I’m starting to get a little anxious now. I have until May 1st to accept my other offers, so I may have to let this go if I don’t hear anything by then. I want this more than anything, but I just cannot risk getting left with nothing this summer.
It’s making me nervous because it’s getting so close to the summer. There are so many unknowns that I hope those who get in make an FAQ of their own for this process. Maybe if some of us from this group do get it we should do that for future interns to help them out. I know it changes from year to year. My parents are hoping I get this too. This would be a career starting opportunity that I need. Instead of you don’t have enough experience or right experience. I put my heart into making my resume show a bit of me. I hope it shows. It’s hard on everyone.
Well, as none of us have gotten rejection letters yet, let’s just count our blessings I went back and looked at last year, and I had a rejection email just over a week later. It’s almost been two weeks since the animation deadline, and nothing. I know its been about a month (right?) for PUP and only a few people have even gotten phone calls. I wonder what’s going on??
You have to also count the people applied for PUP that might have gotten interviews but are not on this forum. But you are right… no one has gotten a rejection letter.
I’m glad too that none of you guys have! I am still wishing you all the best!
I know I haven’t posted too much, but checking this forum is definitely giving some kind of sanity while waiting. It’s killing me! And my deadline for post was on Sunday, I hope I don’t have to wait too much longer
While I’m waiting (and procrastinating starting on my final projects for the semester) I’m going to catch up on JennaMarbles. You guys let me know when you hear anything, okay??
XD I love JennaMarbles! I love her no drama channel unlike many other Youtubers! Nigahiga too!
Hi there,
I just wanted to post to say that I had my phone interview with the Pixar PUP Committee yesterday! I’m a SCAD VSFX student that has a minor in Technical Direction, so this internship is definitely something geared towards me. I’m in the last quarter of my sophomore year, too.
If you guys are curious, they asked 99% technical questions. I was a little nervous because the call was about 15 minutes late, but once they called, I quickly calmed down and got my confidence.
Some of the questions were:
-
Pick out a work from your reel and talk about it.
-
(Referring to first piece on demo reel) Hypothetical situation, you are given 2 days to change the lighting in this piece. What would you do and why?
-
(Referring to second piece) What was the process you went through to come up with this piece?
-
(Referring to second piece) The spoon in this looks dark. What would you do to resolve that?
-
(Referring to second piece) You say you used three point lighting. Did you use 3 lights or more than 3?
-
Talk about one of your costumes and how you created it.
-
(About first piece) What was the process in creating this piece? Explain your workflow.
-
(After explaining that I re-lit the first piece with physical sun & sky + final gather) What is your opinion on final gather versus manual placement of bounce and fill lighting?
-
If you were to have a job at Pixar, which department do you see yourself in? (I said lighting without hesitation )
I think there were a few more, but those were the ones I remember. I talked to 4 people, all TDs. They were all very nice and seemed to like my responses. The key is to know your work inside and out and also know their weaknesses and be able to explain about how you improved/would improve the piece. They definitely seemed interested in knowing your workflow and problem solving abilities.
The call went by fast and I had to think on my feet for sure! But they said that I would be contacted in about a week whether I was in or not.
I hope this can help future applicants, as I know I was combing the net for any sort of clue on the questions they’d ask. Its always nice to have a little heads up to prepare
Magsley thanks for letting us know they are looking at Pup animation still. I am going for marketing and waiting to see if I hear back on it. Good Luck! I’m just north of you by a few hours! XD
@magley Congrats on getting an interview!
Conrats on the interview and thanks for posting these questions. It seems like they are focusing on the technical side of everyone’s reels and since I didn’t really have a reel I probably won’t get in. But good luck to everyone
Are you animation? Not every area needed a reel.
My marketing intern application I submitted late March hasn’t been updated yet. I’m not sure if that’s a total indication they haven’t read it, but I’m getting anxious as well. I do believe though that there will be a quick turnaround for marketing applications, hopefully, so maybe we will know final decisions or at least first round by May 1. Good luck everyone
I applied for PUP. A reel wasn’t required, but it seems like everyone else submitted one
