I ended up making a Linkedin! linkedin.com/in/katelynroland
Let’s all be connected! Is that the correct way to phrase that? I don’t know how Linkedin works…xD
You want to becareful who you connect with on that page. Some places view it as your résumé and references. It’s a professional site of people you have worked with or can say about their work ethic. I only warn this because adding the wrong person can hurt your chances for a job. Not saying any of us are horrible people but don’t treat it like Facebook and add everyone you know. You don’t want your personal life plastered by a vengeful ex friend and such. Like on mine I have customer review for poster advertisement and photography of one of the local bands I worked with. If a customer/ person had a bad experience they can review you. I hope this helps. It’s not to scare just something my class warned.
On a good note look at behance for a way to show any art in gallery format. Use thread groups to try to connect and network with people in the industry and make connections as well as get help.
It is a wonderful job networking tool. I just give the negative because I have had to help a friend through a serious Internet drama. I never wish anyone to go through. It’s both stressful and hard to clean up your reputation once it’s ruined by people who just want to hurt you. It can happen to anyone including the nicest people. We are strangers on the Internet. That website hands a lot of people your personal information.
Like I said I don’t believe anyone on here is terrible. I don’t like people getting hurt or finding out after a major incident.
Hah. I wasn’t planning on adding all my facebook friends…xD I know its a professional site, and as such, thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make connections with other people trying to make it in the industry (you guys). : )
I’ve just recently discovered this and I’ve read every post up until…now I guess, ha-ha.
There’s some really awesome work on here!! Like whoaa man, you guys are all really talented and I hope we can all meet someday to share and art together! Oh, oh, I know~ Has anyone signed up to be a siggraph volunteer this year?
Ah so, I’m not sure if this will help you guys, but I recently received an interview too and it was really fun! I’d like to think I did okay, but who knows? Not sure how I did in the grand scale, but overall it was a neat experience! I hope to have even cooler work the next time around ~(=u=)~ First time intervieewed everrrrrrrrr.
I think they’re going through the interview processes right now. I’m not sure how it’s being split up between calling applicants and doing interviews but keep your hopes up everyone! We’re still young and still have a huge room for learning!! LOOKING AT TUTORIALS ON THE INTERNET FTW!! lololol
We are starting the third week in April… I am getting nervous because time is flying by. I hope the rest of us start hearing from them soon… ._. Got to stay positive!
I know in the past they used to email then interview. It looks like they are just calling this year. They must have a lot of Pup people this year. They have a lot of work cut out with all the departments. This might spill in to May with all the applicants and departments. I am glad people are sharing their art and reels. It gives us an idea of what they are looking for. Do they sometimes call on weekends? If so they are working overtime to get all the interviews done.
I have a feeling after PUPs are decided, and the other art ones that include demo reels, the marketing, public relations, and post productions (aka the ones that don’t have demo reels) will go super fast. So it seems slow now but soon I think we will suddenly want it to go slower. Unless you get an interview, I guess.
Yes you are right. They have story tools and editorial that I believe require some work. Lots of people are not showing up on here for other departments which helps me feel a bit better when I know we will start to hear back from which group. Keep your fingers crossed and hopes up even on bad day!
Hi everyone! I applied for the animation internship, but I’m super nervous about my demo reel. I’ve been surfing the web looking for examples of other animation demo reels, but everyone that I’ve found had 3D animation. I’ve dabbled in Maya but everything in my reel was traditional hand drawn animation. Hopefully it will just help me stand out :S
And yea, my school needs an update from me in about three weeks time to finalize my summer internship. I’m starting to get a little bit nervous now because none of my internships have replied and I didn’t realize how fast time had flown.
Regardless, I think we’ll all end up somewhere pretty cool for summer
Fingers crossed and chins up!
