Planes

Very bad news. They’re planning to release this theatrically:

Yyyyep. I’m really not sure how to feel about that, especially in relation to MU. Why, Lasseter, why? :frowning:

Hopefully it will still be good. I never doubt John Lasseter’s decisions. I think Cars and Cars 2 are both really good movies and if more people seriously didn’t like the movies, there wouldn’t be so much merchandising and now a whole theme park at California Adventure. I say I’ll still give Planes a fair chance.

While I don’t think they’re terrible films, the merchandise and franchise development isn’t a guarantee that people love it.

At least not general audiences, just a niche. In this case, children.

I’m fear that Planes is just another way to capitalize on that niche.

Lmao, as soon as I read this, a plane not unlike Dusty flew over our house. xD

Not sure how to feel about it just yet. I can never really judge a movie until, well, I’ve seen it.

Bad news?? I think not! While it seems odd that Disney’s planning to release a lot of animated films next year (I mean, with Frozen and Phineas and Ferb and MU, you’d think they were all set in the animation area! Of course, not that a multitude of animated movies is bad or anything…), I’d personally rather see it in theaters in August than wait until Autumn to buy it! And the best thing? It’s the fact it’s supposed to release two days before my birthday! While it would’ve been better if it was an actual Pixar movie releasing then, whatever… I’ll take it! Call me crazy, but I’m reallllly looking forward to it!

Thank you, ObsessedWithPixar. I ought to be more forward with admitting I think Planes would be good as well. I doubt the studio would go out of its way to disappoint its fans.

Well that is…interesting news. Wow.

Phineas and Ferb was pushed back to 2014 a couple months ago.
Personally, I’m not to fond of a Planes theater release. :frowning:

I am seriously intrigued by this film. I don’t have high hopes or expectations, I’m just so curious about this whole thing. There has to be something to it that Disney wants it to be a theatrical film. And I am wondering what that is.

No surprise on the North American theatrical release of Planes…Disney must be pleased with the quality of work so far. If it’s anything like the quality of the TinkerBell series, it will be just fine; Prana has turned out arguably the best animation yet to emerge from India, which no doubt will continue with Planes. And if the trend continues with future Planes (and maybe Cars) sequels produced by Disney Toon and Prana at modest cost, it will be win-win all around, with merchandising dollars rolling in to fund other Disney projects.

If this can be as good as the Pooh features from Disney Toon Studios, I expect to like it. I think it can be at least that good, but I sort of don’t have a choice on whether or not I’ll see this. :sunglasses: Since I’m a Cars fan, I am naturally curious!

I’m a huge fan of the Cars franchise, so this spin-off (or should I say, tailspin-off?) is right up my street! I remember watching Budgie The Little Helicopter as a kid. Needless to say, this is the closest thing I will get to a feature film version of it!

Come on, sing it with me: Budgie is a little helicopter…

The trailer also reminds me of Turbo, another animated flick from a certain rival studio also coming out this summer. Right down to the photo-realistic opening set to electro-synth, ending with the underdog protagonist with big dreams.

Does anyone know the song used for Plane’s trailer, though?

TDIT: No idea. It was pretty cool though.

If I am being honest, I`m looking forward to this a little. I don’t know if it’s coming out here in the UK but if it is I will probably go see it. I’m not a fan of Cars at all, but I would like to see what provoked Disney to elevate Planes to a theatrical release.

I’ll probably hold off on seeing this until it’s on DVD. And if people say it’s good.

Ouch, that was bad. 8D

I hear it’s White Zombie’s “More human than human”. I didn’t dare to verify it.

For me, even though at first Planes felt a bit like a treachery from Disney, even though I doubt it will be more than a little kid’s film (the plot’s kind of look like a simple World Grand Prix remake, with Rip Clutchgoneski as protagonist), I am a huge Cars fan, so I cannot help to be interested in seeing more speaking vehicles. However, in my opinion planes are much less visually appealing characters than cars, and much less efficient in terms of animation too. But they are cool vehicles nevertheless (Skipper is a good-looking aircraft), so it seems like something I could like… We’ll see. I’m very curious.

TDIT: I have never heard of this Budgie thing ever, but it kind of reminds me of Pedro from Saludos Amigos.

There has been some Planes news lately. They’ve fully confirmed Jon Cryer is no more involved as Dane Cook is now cast for Dusty’s voice…
And a new trailer was first released/leaked, following what Disney managed to remove it from most websites… However, it’s still possible to view it here : film1.nl/blog/18750-Zingende … ailer.html

I have to say I didn’t find it very special…
It’s interesting to see there’s a fair amount of sets and characters coming from the Cars franchise that are reused… Which makes that in a way, Pixar actually has worked, even though indirectly, on Planes…

Nice. I don’t really like Jon Cryer.

Interesting note on the voice actors… the first time I saw the trailer I seriously thought that Dusty’s voice was Dave Foley! Too bad; that would’ve been cool! Still anticipating this…
