"Pun of a Witch" [NEW!] - The Art of TDIT (Non-Pixar)

Thanks ellie-jessie-eve! That was one of my more inspired crossovers.

Haha, thanks, love70ways! By the way, those two Na’vi are the two Na’vi (Jake and Neytiri). Or my poor renditions of them in long-shot. XD I just used the Brush tool in Photoshop to paint the characters and poorly smudged them for the Redwall painting. The background is a texture I found on dA andd that I acknowledged in my dA uploader comments.

That means “No Worries!” in Brazilian Portugese. I’m really looking forward to Blue Sky’s Rio next spring, but there seems to be little buzz about it at the moment as there’s hardly any pre-release hype coming from the studio this year. Until two five days ago, the only materials publicly released were a teaser, a poster, and a Thanksgiving poster that had a few elements Photoshopped. The trailer released on Wednesday had a great beginning and hinted more of the other characters and revealed how Blu ended up in Brazil, but it soon degenerated into a celebrity name-dropping sequence.

Nevertheless, I’m very excited, because of the unique location (How many animated movies are set in Brazil? Probably the godawful Ratatoiing), endearing characters, and cute storyline. I really love how they depicted Blu to be this adorable neurotic and Jewel to be his exasperated ‘teacher-of-life’. Their relationship will be one of the film’s strongest suits, along with Blu’s love for his human companion. If Blue Sky pulls it off, it just might redeem itself for the disappointing Scrat x Scratte subplot in the mediocre Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

So yeah, long comment aside, here’s a sketch dump I did in an hour of scenes from the new trailer, along with a few character cameos from other films. It just might possibly be the first Rio fanart on the Internet! Honest comments and constructive criticisms much appreciated.

I really like your doodles! You do a better job at drawing the characters than me, at least. xD The Up reference was funny as well as the mice from G-Force.

I’d really like to see more Rio fan art from you :3

I likes it! I’m happy there is someone else here who is super excited for Rio as well!

Badger: Aw, shucks. You haven’t drawn Jewel, Rafael or anyone else besides Blu yet, so how would you know I draw better? Anyway, if by Up, you mean the bulldog, that’s not Gamma, but Luiz, the drooler. But you have to admit, they both look alike, don’t they?
But good on spotting the G-Force reference! You can be sure I’ll be cranking out those Rio fanart (and hopefully, videos) closer to the release date.

EJE: Thanks, it’s great to know you’re anticipating it too! Maybe you’d like to try your hand at drawing the characters too? I’ve got a couple of ‘speculative’ fanart and fanfic ideas percolating in my brain, especially after seeing the new trailer and TV spots since this piece!

“Good luck.”

So by the time this upload appears on dA, the Oscars ceremony would’ve just begun. I’m rather disappointed with this year’s pickings, mainly because of the ‘Best Animated Ghetto’ quota and the snubbing of two of my favourite films of the year, ‘The Town’ and ‘Legend of the Guardians’.

This piece is my reaction. With all the forced melodrama and over-the-top acting, the ‘grown-up’ films sometimes feel less matured than the ‘kiddy’ ones. :unamused: It’s my most ambitious montage so far, there’s 21 characters from 16 films, including all the ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Animated’ nominees and then some. Toothless and Gylfie are the only ones I’ve drawn before; the rest are all first-timers. How many can you identify?

Hopefully the Academy will seize the chance to make history unlike last year, 2008, and 1992. If not, we’ll all know that it’s just a ‘pity vote’ and it’ll be yet some time before animation can be judged on the same merits as live-action.

On that note, I wish ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, ‘Toy Story 3’, and ‘Inception’ the very best. If you don’t take home anything, rest assured you have at least one appreciative fan here.

Ahh, great art TDIT. Has a lot of movement and personality

Your Oscar one is fantastic! It’s a very clever idea. I like your Geoffrey Rush & Colin Firth charicatures the best. How long did it take for you to make this?

Thanks Leirin!

EJE: If I recall, I did it over two or so nights, the weekend before the Oscars. In total, I’d say approximately two-three hours of drawing (because I had to search for the reference images) and one hour of colouring in Woody, Buzz, and Gobber the Belch, along with general touch-ups and colour-correction.

Nobody tangos with the Rango!

So I watched what could possibly be one of the best movies of the year a fortnight ago. I have been highly-anticipating Rango since the teaser released mid last-year, and I had been granted the opportunity to watch an advance screening of it by my university magazine.

Needless to say, my expectations were met, and then some! It should still be playing in theatres, and I highly recommend anyone who hasn’t seen it to hustle down the your local cinema posthaste! A movie this epic deserves to be seen on the big screen.

I love this movie. I’ve never seen such a powerful film on existentialism and fulfilling one’s destiny since Wall-E.

Drawn with pencil and coloured in photoshop. Rango’s pose inspired by Clint Eastwood’s iconic ‘lean-on-one-leg’ pose as The-Man-With-No-Name. Google Image it! I really pushed the colour balance to yellow to make it look faded and dry on purpose. Random sparks and smoke FTW.

“Who am I? I could be anyone.”

Oh man, that might be one of your best! The colors are all working really harmoniously, and the arrangement of characters is really good. rushes down to theater to see Rango

I love your Rango and Oscar drawings. But, may I ask, who are the two in the middle kissing in the Oscar one?

RANGOOOOOOO!

I love your detail in this drawing!

oh, and I’m finally seeing this flick tommorrow!

I would say they’re Nic, from The Kids are all Right and Nina from Black Swan.

I really like that Rango drawing! Awesome, makes me wanna see the film even more now.

I love the combination of traditional line-art and digital colouring, too. Looks really nice.

Just skimmed your non-Pixar art. My favorite would DEFINITELY be the HTTYD/Avatar crossover, even despite I haven’t seen the latter.

O.M.G. So sorry for the late reply guys, y’all are too awesome.

Leirin: I can’t remember if you mentioned if you liked Rango, but I hope you did! Thanks for the comment.

IV: The girl in glasses on the left is Annette Bening as Nic from ‘The Kids Are All Right’, and the girl in the tutu on the right is Natalie Portman as Nina from ‘Black Swan’. Both films featured lesbian pairings, so I ‘shipped’ these two together for the purpose of this montage.

EJE: Haha, I read your comment last year, but it’s nice to look back on it and realise you enjoyed the movie since then.

SoA: That’s right!

Badger: I think you enjoyed the film? Anyway, yeah, most of my drawings are done in traditional line-art, and then digitally coloured in. I’m just repeating whatever you said, am I? :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, thanks for the compliment!

SgtYayap: You should really watch Avatar! Its story is predictable (but no less moving) and it’s one of my favourite films of all-time.

So it’s been months since my last drawing. To celebrate the recent Derpy Day, here’s my very first MLP drawing! And fitting too, since she’s my favourite background pony.

dA link Please fave and comment if you liked it, if you didn’t, I’d love to hear your critique! <3

Welp, I’m kinda belated on this one, but better late than never, right?

I’ve been a fan of Sibsy ever since I discovered her back in her Cars-fanart-drawing days. Then I was delighted to learn she was drawing Cars and Darkwing Duck for Boom Studios. And THEN she goes on to become a storyboard artist for one of the best shows on television at the moment.

I am very envious.

So this is my little birthday tribute to her awesome OC, Wild Fire. Keep up the good work, girl!

Screw the hooficures, I’ve got a bike!

P.S. If you like this, send a link to Equestria Daily at Submit@equestriadaily.com

Maybe if enough people like it, you might help me get featured on Drawfriend!

It’d indeed a true honour to be competing among the best pony artists in the business, not to mention the great and powerful Tara Strong will look at my artwork! Even if I don’t win, just knowing that she’s seen something I’ve drawn is a prize in itself.

Voting starts on 27th of July, so mark that date if you want to give me a hand, or hoof. And thank you for reading this!

Saudade (Brazilian Portuguese: [sawˈdadi]; plural saudades) is a Portuguese word that has no direct translation in English. It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing will never return.

I needed an excuse to pick up drawing again, and what better one than to make a (one-week belated) birthday gift for a friend? I’ve always been drawing humorous (or at least, I’d like to think so) crossover pieces, and while this is in the same vein, I wanted to add some pathos to it too.

Or as Walt Disney once said: “For every laugh, there should be a tear.”

Oh man, I feel so awful doing this to Blu, haha. Happy 21st, Kenzie/ellie-jessie-eve!

Comments and Critiques welcome!

Awwwww pooor Blu!!!

idk if you know how much I adore this! I was all smiles when I saw this, what a great crossover idea! And that you made it for me too! thank you so much Andre! This means a lot. I love it!

You know, I was actually surprised nobody had drawn something like this before, what with them both being macaws in Rio de Janeiro. x3 It’s very cool the way you’ve drawn it, I dig your traditional style, but oh my goodness, poor Blu. D:

Sorry I haven’t been commenting a lot! I still love seeing your work though!
