Just some random thought i had earlier regarding Woody’s past.
If Woody was owned by Andy’s mom as suggested why does it seem he can’t remember anything previous to Andy? I.e Being made or being played with by Andy’s mom.
So good people of Pixar planet I’m sure most of you will have very good answers and i look forward to reading them.
That’s an interesting thought. John Lasseter says that it’s meant to be implied that Woody was a gift from Andy’s father. None of the toys have ever really mentioned remembering being made, though.
No I think your right about the toys being made, it would kinda be like remembering being born, although Mr Potato head did somehow know he was made by Playskool…
Well I’m not sure what purpose it would serve to the plot to talk about memories randomly. I don’t think what he calls Andy’s mom means any thing. and I think he’s both referred to her as “Andy’s mom” and “mom”. but I might not be remembering that right.
I’m not sure…Though the different toys knowing where they were made, such as Mr. Potato Head knowing that he was made by Playskool, might be more to do with the packaging that they came in and their first arrival into Andy’s room, rather than being to do with memories and that sort of thing.
If Woody was a gift from Andy’s father, then that makes sense as obviously Andy’s father is never mentioned and therefore Woody would never have needed to bring the subject up.
Forget packacking, they probably have the company logo’s right on their feet, butt or something.
Though it does seem odd that rex was so knowledgeable about the leverage buyout thing.
This universe really wans’t meant to be analyzed to this degree though, lol. We’re talking about a throw away gag that compares manufacturers to home towns. Thats the joke. We’re supposed to laugh and move on.
And for all we know, Rex likes to watch the news and stock market shows. we know they watch tv. when they can figure out where the power button is anyway.
negative on the internet, as far as I can tell there were no computers in their house (not until toy story 3 but that doesnt count), which makes sense this was in the 90s, they weren’t nearly as common then.
Sorry to break up the continuity of the discussion, but I remember specifically in TS2, when Woody is talking to Wheezy, he call’s Andy’s mom, “mom”. Just to confirm.
Well, think of it this way. Remember when Buzz first was opened, he believed he was a space ranger and eventually learned over time and through experience that he was in fact, a toy.
Now you got to figure, he probably wasn’t the only one who thought this. It’s likely that all the toys originally believed they were what they were marketed as rather than a “child’s play thing.” They probably learned it gradually over time.
When Buzz is fighting the second Buzz in Toy Story 2, he remarks “Tell me I wasn’t this delauded.” when the second BUzz was acting like a Space Ranger. This could suggest that Buzz doesn’t remember much of his acting like a Space Ranger days so Woody might not remember his past either. I mean, he didn’t know he was on a show and he had to be made during the days of the show.
I dissagree, I think the toys generally know what they were designed for out of the box. their personalities dictate certain things, and Buzz was meant to be overly confident and in the dark. all buzzes are.
If woody ever thought he was part of woody’s round up he wouldn’t be as shocked as he was in the second one to hear about it for the first time. Not to mention he would sympathize with buzz more. Not only did he not do that, he didn’t even believe him for a good while, thought it was an act. Clearly he’s never met a toy that thought they were the real deal.
And Buzz didn’t forget about his deluted days. He recalled what woody said about “flying with style” as he referenced while in the air in the finale scene. I think the thing your talking about was just a figure of speech. he had put those days behind him but didn’t actually forget anything completely.
Well, I can’t figure out why Woody doesn’t remember that he’s part of TV Show. He had to have been created and mass produced during the days of the TV show. He’d have to know at least something.
I think the toys generally know where there from and who there 1st owners were i thinks the only toys in andys room that may have been hammy downs were Woody and Slink i think for all the others toys there 1st owner was andy and i just think woody and slink were andys dads toys and they were handed down to andy and i think they do remember there 1st owner but they never talk about him because there is no point to talk about him. make sense
Well, Woody’s Roundup was a show in the 50’s so maybe Andy’s dad got him around the 60’s (this would make sense provided TS1 takes place in 1995)
and the hype and media for Woody’s Roundup had all died down.
As for Rex being so knowledgable… well maybe Hamm read the Wall Street Journal and told him.
Don’t you remember Toy Story 2 when The Prospector showed Woody who he realy is. By showing him the TV show and the merchandise ,when Bullseye goes over to the record player woody says “A RECORD PLAYER! I haven’t seen these in ages” referring to when Woody spent time with Andy’s father in the 60’s. Also when Woody told the toys in the third movie they might get played with by Andy’s kids also referring how he got passed down to Andy by his dad.
The only thing I’m wondering about is whether Andy’s father was actually a fan or not. Obviously, it was a shock to Woody that he even had a TV show. As one source states, they didn’t have a TV, so that’s how Woody didn’t know.
There’s the possibility that Andy’s father was given Woody in the 1960s, as someone said, and that he wasn’t a fan of the show, or of cowboys in general; and later gave Woody to Andy.
Who knows, maybe the record player Woody references is to one that was in the attic in Andy’s father’s house. -Omar
Maybe Andy’s Dad got Woody when the show was no longer in production, but watched the show when it was on TV and saw Woody at a a flea market before Andy was born remembered wacthing the show and bought it for sentimental value
