RANK Your TOP 5 Animated Films Of 2011

Nope. I didn’t have any intentions on seeing it. It just looked horrible and poorly animated.

I’ve never seen the original.

I thought the original was terrible…but it still (looks) better animated than the sequel…

Yep. Hoodwinked Two! felt more like a quick cash in on the original film, which is something the Disney sequels did.

Cheapquels…shudders
Some of them weren’t too terrible. I quite liked Tarzan 2 and The Lion King 2, and The Fox And The Hound 2 had a nice soundtrack… ;-p
Never matched the originals though.
Did anybody see Chico and Rita? I know it’s on the longlist for Best Animated Feature, and I think Best Foreign Film, but I got the chance to see it the other day and I was blown away. It had such beauty and a sense of fun to it. I got the same feeling when I saw Peresepolis, y’know, the foreign animated film that is marvellous but stands no chance winning anything :unamused:
I recommend it though.

There really wasn’t a Disney direct-to that I found great.

I don’t think any of them were great, I just think a few were watchable.

That’s true. I think I was most disappointed with the Hunchback sequel. Yeah, it can be entnertaining but it isn’t a good film.

In my opinion, The Lion King’s sequel’s were best.

Unfortunately I’ve only seen a couple animated movies of 2011 so far: Rango, Rio, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Cars 2. I’d like to see Arthur Christmas, Winnie the Pooh, and Puss in Boots, though. I’m not really sure if one of these is the outstanding animated film of the year, because none of them are really masterpieces. The two I admire most are Rango and KFP2.

Ohhh, but hmm… I have seen the Ghibli films Kokurikozaka kara (“From up on Poppy Hill”) and Borrowers Arrietty, the former of which is definitely from 2011. Neither was very amazing, but good enough, I s’pose.

Oooh, I forgot about Arrietty! But yeah, it wasn’t a brilliant film. Just a good one . Which defines most films this year imo.

I know it’s only one word, but I’ve always written both “T” in capital letters ;-p

yeap, but at least those quick cash disney sequels were only released on DVD,
Hoodwinked Too was a theatrical release and I’ve read it did poorly almost everywhere

Talking about Ghibli, have any of you heard about the Porco Rosso sequel?, I read once it was being developed

I have not, but someone mentioned Miyazaki is working on an epic-length, semi-autobiographical, non-fantasy animated film. Not that much info that I can find, but if it’s true and will happen… it’s certainly interesting, especially considering it would be perfect for a final film.

And… I’m not actually a huge Porco Rosso fan. I feel like people will throw rocks at me for saying such a thing.

^I’m won’t throw any rocks
bryanbmp: That’s better than “Tin Tin”. Thats actually a small joke in the film where [spoil]Tintin is about to be knocked out and taken hostage as such to the Karaboudjan, and the delivery man in disguise goes up to him and says “delivery for mr Tin…Tin?”[/spoil] 8D

Arrietty looks pretty decent but it doesn’t come out here until February.

It came out here in July but on limited release, so they may release it again.

I could be wrong though but I think it was originally released last year.

Yeah I think so too, in Japan at least.
Redoing my list:

  1. The Adventures of Tintin
  2. Chico and Rita
  3. Rango
  4. Winnie The Pooh
  5. Arthur Christmas
  6. Arrietty
  7. Cars 2
  8. Kung Fu Panda 2
  9. Rio
  10. Mars Needs Moms

Happy Feet 2 and Puss in Boots aren’t out here yet

I think you should check out Puss in Boots when it comes out over there. It’s a great movie and had nothing to do with the green ogre.

I’ve heard good things! We actually start the happy meal toys tommorow!
