Ratatouille Awards

-___-

I hate delayed telecasts… I’ll check back in after the ceremony airs here.

Congratulations to PIXAR! Now we have an Oscar on our side for Ratatouille.
Totally awesome and simply the best of the best!

Did anyone else see Brad Bird in that little clip when he covered his eyes and dropped his pen on the ballot to vote? It was absolutely hilarious! It may have been less than 5 seconds long, but I couldn’t stop myself from laughing!

ashley

Yes, I saw it. It’s funny how he votes!
I am kind of dissapointed that Remy wasn’t present, but the fact that Rat won is enough to make me ecstatic!

Here’s Brad Bird’s thank you speech to PIXAR on Oscars Thank You CAM.

how come all you guys heard of the win but me?

Aww, look at the bags under his eyes. Brad, go take a vacation, man! A long one. You have seriously, indubitably earned it!

I don’t watch cable at all anymore so I didn’t know.

Woohoo!! They won!!! xD

What a fabulos win for Ratatouille. Congrats to everyone at Pixar who were part of making the movie.

It’s actually on ABC, not cable…but it’s over now, so it doesn’t really matter anymore…

doesn’t matter?!!!

that win matters alot to me!

Was Bird referencing the “I Wanna Rock” music video in his speech? It sounded a bit like it.

No, I said the channel doesn’t matter.

I adored his acceptance speech. Here’s as much of it as I can remember:

(and I’m not doing direct quotes or anything, so DON’T quote me on this)

“I have to thank my junior high guidance counselor. He’d say Brad does an old guy voice ‘so, what do you want to do with your life?’
Then I’d say Brad does young-Brad voice ‘I want to make movies!’
He’d be like ‘…what else do you want to do?’
‘I want to make movies!’
‘what if you couldn’t make movies?’
‘I’d find a way to make it possible so I could make movies!’
‘what if movies didn’t exist?’
‘I’d invent them!’
And we would go on in that office like that until we were sick of eachother. But now I think that was my first training on how to make it in the movie industry.
audience laughs, Ashley and I die, Brad thanks a lot of people
Ahh, I have to wrap it up. I HATE that thing! Uhhh gets nervous because they all get nervous when they see that thing flashing… thanks more people, music is drowning him out …and to all the dreamers who support a rat who wanted to cook. Thank you.”

EEE I loved it! So in a way, his speech was symbolic.
He has been known to explain how difficult it is to make it in the film industry as a director. And we all know that he’s had to push and push to accomplish his dream… just like a particular little blue rat!
I love analyzing the words of geniuses such as Bird. Bravo, Brad! <haha alliteration… doh! such a grammar geek…

OK. But I’m pretty shocked/upset that Giacchino didn’t get the Oscar for his score. It lost to Atonement of all movies…!?! But I’ll take my rage to the soundtrack thread, I guess.

Well it was great to see Ratatouille win for best animated, though of course a disappointment to see it not win for best score. Obviously I’m biased, but I thought it was a magical score, and deserved to win. Still it was Michael’s first oscar nomination and I’m sure there will be many more in the coming years. I thought Brad’s acceptance speech was great, and as everyone here knows, we’ll be seeing more of him soon enough, in the live-action world. As just a sidenote, it made me cringe to see “Surf’s Up” being nominated, but as I mentioned before, at least there were two really good films this year in the catagory (Ratatouille and Persepolis, both quite different). Thankfully in the end, our little rat won what it deserved so much… and with apologies to Brad… “YEESSSS!”

I love Oscar!!!

Congratulations on Ratatouille for the big win for Animated Feature. Brad Bird’s message of having that dream to be a filmmaker and sticking to it simply rocked. I watched TV all day, from the red carpet all the way to the end.

I’m disappointed that Ratatouille lost to Atonement for Original Score. I’m still crying from that loss, Atonement’s score is so cliche. But I guess the Academy liked that. They also voted Elizabeth: The Golden Age for costumes (Why is it always that kind of old European movie for costumes?). The Bourne Ultimatum won more Oscars than There Will Be Blood did. And The Golden Compass lost to both Pirates and Transformers. Despite Ratatouille losing to Juno for Original Screenplay, I couldn’t be happier that Juno got some recognition! Everything else, including No Country For Old Men with Best Picture, was pretty predictable.

On a side note, Enchanted’s three song performances might have been my favorite parts of the night.

I honestly thought I didn’t care about the Oscars (apart from desperately wanting No Country For Old Men to win a whole bunch of awards, which it did anyway) because I figured that no matter what, Ratatouille would always be a good movie and that wouldn’t change just because of a statue.

But when it came to the nominations, I was seriously excited! I’m so pleased for Ratatouille to have won Best Animated Feature, especially since it’s a better film than even some of the Best Feature Film nominations! The people at Pixar, and especially Brad Bird, must’ve been so proud. And yes, his acceptance speech was awesome. His quirky personality really shone through even in just a few seconds of him being on screen.

I was slightly disappointed for Ratatouille not to have won Best Score as well, but I also can’t help but enjoy Atonement’s score. There’s something about the whole typewriter thing…And as a movie all together, I do enjoy Atonement. But yeah, the score award really could’ve gone either way- apart from Best Animated Feature, (which just HAD to go to Ratatouille) there wasn’t a single award that I could comfortably predict.

Persepolis looks amazing though! I hadn’t seen a clip of it before the Oscars, but seeing just those few seconds of footage makes me want to see it somehow. It definitely looks as though it deserved the nomination at least.

All in all, it does look like the best film won!

Sorry, I meant I don’t watch TV anymore, period. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tis a shame they couldn’t win best overall film or whatever title that was, but best animation film is good enough for me- they certainly deserve it.

To everyone at Pixar: Congratulations to all of the Ratatouille team, and the rest of Pixar! I couldn’t be more proud of you! I’m so happy that The Academy recognised what a beautiful story Ratatouille is with the BAF award, and the four other nominations it received. If I had my way, you guys would have won every award for which you were nominated! Congrats again, guys. We love you! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and

Wink" />

I really wish that Ratatouille would have won for Best Original Score… I haven’t heard the other scores so I can’t compare, but I doubt any of them would have had the energy or flair that Michael Giacchino brought to the film. I am deeply attached to that score, so I’m biased of course, but that score was perfect for the film, and stood up on its own. Michael looked so sweet when the winner was read out. <3

How come Enchanted got three nominations and Le Festin didn’t get nominated? Why??? That song is an instant classic, and it would have been icing on the cake for Camille to perform it.

I loved Brad Bird’s speech. He was very… well… animated, and the story that he told was really funny. Darn you wrap-up music! The part where Brad “voted” was great! I think I might vote like that every time, heheh.

Who else spotted Lightning McQueen at the beginning of the awards, and a scene of Toy Story during the binoculars montage?

I did!! Oh, and the Toy Story cameo too.
