I am so excited! My dad promised me to get the Ratatouille DVD sometime this week! I can’t wait to watch it.
For those of us outside the US that can’t wait for Ratatouille, you can purchase it through the US iTunes Store, if you set up a US iTunes Store account which is as simple as buying a US iTunes Store Gift Card from this site, upon which they send you an email with the code which you redeem in the US site and you can download Ratatouille! Lifted too if you buy enough credit. No US Credit Card required.
That’s just one option for you if you don’t want to use a credit card and buy through Amazon and pay extra for the shipping.
I saved up enough… Now I gotta get to a store… ![]()
JV is going to get the DVD at Target right now! (We get an extra DVD there!)
We’re all so happy for him.
~~=oP
The whole thing about families where the parent might accidently put the wrong disc in, getting the small children upset is just a bit stupid. First, Disney is luckily one studio that still puts some time and energy into their disc designs, putting a giant “Disc 1: Feature Film” on the disc with the movie on it (Unlike some studios, who use the same old blank label on every title and just have the disc number in one small part that some people could easily miss). And if they’re worried about that, then why do what every other studio seems to be doing (which I don’t like, although it’s better than what we’re getting now) is why not have a simple, stripped down version for families who just want the movie, then have a nice two disc collector’s edition for us, the real Pixar fans who want to know about every step in making a film there. Plus, if the reason really is for families, then why do we get two disc sets for Disney junk that only appeals to these families (may I again bring up High School Musical).
Anyway, I don’t know why I’m complaining, I already have a Blu-ray player and in just a little over an hour, I’ll have a Blu-ray of Ratatouille in my hands. I guess I’m just looking out for my fellow Pixar fans, who don’t have a blu-ray player yet (I only got one cause at work we got an awesome deal through Sony).
Sooooo, can anyone tell me if it has a commentary or not???
I won’t be able to pick it up until Friday. ![]()
(But I did get it in iTunes this morning around 3 XD)
Just got it, been watching it. Yeah, the blu-ray has a commentary by the two Brads. Basically it’s part of the Cine-xplore part of the disc, which is almost identical to what the visual commentary was on the Finding Nemo DVD, but you can listen to the commentary by itself. And the Blu-ray does have quite a nice selection of bonus material, enough to cover two discs on a SD DVD, don’t know why they didn’t do it though. But one thing that happened, when I got home with my copy, I opened it up, and the insert for the Disney Movie Rewards didn’t have a code number on it, just wondering if this is happening to other copies, or if it’s just mine. But, man was the store crowded, everyone had a copy, and I’ve never seen so much confussion over a DVD like that, and it’s my day off (questions like “Is it Widescreen?” “What’s a Blu-ray?” I could hear a number of times).
Does the Blu-Ray include the short documentary filmed by Michael Giacchino’s son on his dad writing the music (with interviews of some of the musicians)? It was supposed to be included on the Blu-Ray version when I saw it screened, but there was no mention of it in any press releases for the discs. I don’t have a BluRay player, so just wondering if it was included. Thanks!
Yep, it’s there. It’s entitled “My Dad, the Composer” and does have a lot of nice interviews and insights into the best composer around. It’s all part of the cine-explore, which you can watch by itself
Ah man. I want the BLURAYYYY cries. I really really really want to see the “My Dad the Composer.” Even more than the commentary.
Maybe I can rent it on netflix. ![]()
y-you guys I’m playing it on my computer and WHY IS THE PICTURE SO SMALL I mean maybe I haven’t watched enough DVDs on my computer lately but isn’t it supposed to take up almost the whole screen or something.
And why didn’t they translate the instructions for adjusting aspect ratio and contrast and all that into Dumb so I can understand them
Which software do you use to play it? If its Windows Media Player, there should be a full screen option from the drop down menu or something.
Glad you guys got the DVD and are enjoying it!!
Here in Singapore the region 3 DVD has been released - plenty of stocks on the shelves but no sign of any Blu-ray disc just yet. Rather disappointing release really…the only extras are the deleted scenes, the cooking feature/behind the scenes special, the “Lifted” short, and thats about it. Not even any tie-ins or bonus gifts like you Region 1 guys are having. Really “bare-bones” for a DVD release if you ask me! ![]()
I’m trying to find the Pizza Planet Truck. Can somebody tell me the exact time it’s at (as specific as second). Thanks.
I think it might have something to do with the software I’m using (PowerDVD), but I play it full screen and it’s just kinda blurry. No matter what I do, the hi-res 1024p clips online are better quality than the DVD.
I am so confused. :[
Me too.
Except I want to hear the commentary more than watch that, but it all sounds drool-worthy. Maybe someone who has Blu-Ray will rip Michael Giacchino’s son’s doco and put it up on YouTube…

That’s what I’m hoping for also (and I saw the documentary way back in the summer). Not even Ratatouille will make me dive into hidef until the format wars have a clear winner, or dual-format players become cheap and the norm (like computer DVD+/- burners).
A few people I’ve heard mentioned the same thought (about someone possibly uploading it to YouTube). Sure hope they do, it’s pretty good.
If Disney released a 2-disc set even for more money, I’d buy it. But I’m not getting into a whole new video standard for it…
If you are watching the DVD version and not the Blu-Ray then yes it might have some upscaling problems. DVD video is only at 480p whereas the clips off the internet are at 1080p HD. 1080p HD is a higher resolution than 480p.
GAH I wish I had the Blu-Ray. I’m probably going to rent the Blu-Ray for now, as my roommate has a Blu-Ray player. But not enough people have Blu-Ray, so why did they not put the extra features on the DVD? Oh well, when Blu-Ray becomes more mainstream, Ratatouille will be the first Blu-Ray film I own.
I’m so glad I have a copy of Ratatouille in my hands. Ratatouille love.
Edit: I just put m y Target “Bonus Disk” for Ratatouille in the DVD-ROM drive of my computer and the computer wasn’t able to detect any files on the disk…I haven’t tried on an actual DVD player yet, though, but does anybody have the same problem?
… emo tear
Well, I suppose that explains it, anyway.
But if it’s true that the blu-ray version is better quality or something, KAGERI ANGRY! KAGERI SMASH! because they can deprive us of our extras, but Disney, I know you did not just deprive me of the movie I paid to see in widescreen technicolor to get more monies. snaps fingers in a Z formation
ETA: Yeah, looks like the blu-ray is 1080 HD. It… I’m just… I need to be alone for a while.
