I finally got it!
Yay!
I have the Target 2-disc, and it was $5 less than expected.
Coincidentally, I had 5 dollars extra and the Cars diecast movie moments were on sale for $5.
And coincidentally, there happened to be one I didn’t have, which never happens…
I was thrilled. It was extremely rare, but it was right at the front of the rack!!!
Just think… “Ratatouille” and Cars in the same day!?! How could it get any better?
I was gonna buy the Short films DVD, but I already had them all, so I’ll wait until they make volume 2 and I’ll buy both together.
I just watched the movie for the first time and i thought this movie was cute. I have to rewatch it a few times to really think what i thought about it but what i watched last last, I thought the movie was cute. I glad i brought it.
So Disney’s marketing tactic of holding all of the good extras for Blu-Ray in the hope of getting people to switch to that format, has worked in their favour then?
I’d sell it to you for $10. Although with the shipping cost I’m not sure it’ll be much of a bargain … plus you’d probably want the bonus disc just like me, lol!
I might end up giving it to my cousin, but I didn’t tell her yet. I’m thinking twice because I’m sending her a Shock Treatment DVD and she never sends me anything … so I’m thinking it pointless to offer her Ratatouille out of the blue.
Just a quick question for those with Region 1 DVDs…how do you access the ‘Deleted Scenes’ portion? Is it available under the ‘Bonus Features’ section on the bottom right hand side of the main menu? I just got my Region 3 DVD and can’t seem to be able to locate it at all. Under ‘Bonus Features’ there’s only one option for the feature “Fine Food and Film: A Conversation with Brad Bird and Thomas Keller” (the one with running time approximately 13 mins or so)
The main menu I’m referring to as seen below:
Appreciate if someone could answer my question. I’ve been searching up and down the entire disc for the darn deleted scenes and I can’t seem to find 'em! Feeling a bit short changed about it coz it was listed on the back of the DVD case but apparently it wasn’t included in the disc?!?
I don’t know all whole lot about the whole region thing, but yeah, if it said it on the back of the box, it should be on the DVD. I would try and putting the disc in another player, as LBER said. If that doesn’t work, I know there’s some shareware out there that can analyze and bring to you a list of every piece of content (menus, video, and audio) on the disc…you could try that, as well.
With two discs I’d be surprised if there was no commentary, although Weltbild.de lists only the following bonus features:
Single-Disc Edition: Short films, Featurette, Deleted scenes, Easter Eggs
2-Disc Special Edition: Short films, Featurette, Deleted scenes, Easter Eggs, Podcasts
There’s got to be more than just podcasts to fill a second DVD…
Btw. they also have some newer covershots, the one at Amazon.de looks like a placeholder:
Single-Disc Edition / 2-Disc Special Edition
When additional information emerges, I’ll let you know.
I’m curious… are BluRay DVDs for sale in Europe yet? Because in the US and Japan, Disney is forcing consumers to buy the BluRay to get the extra features, but it seems not in Europe (at least Germany and France).
Thanks for the info, and please keep us informed!
(Satsuki and Mei thank you too)
Well, thanks for that DVD info so far, totoro. I’m sure more information about the German release will be available closer to the release date. I’m guessing that the two-disc that Germany and France are getting is similar to what the US will get in a couple of years’ time - after this format war is over.
Oh, and could you please tell us this…?: On a German DVD release of an English-spoken movie, how are the director’s commentaries put onto the DVD? Like, are they spoken in English with a translation, or are they completely dubbed over?
I ask this because if the former option is the case, then it would be more of a reason for people who live in the US (and presumably Australia because I’m betting our release is going to be exactly like the US one), without Blu-Ray players who want to listen to the commentary.
miafka - Yep, that’s what I’ve noticed as well. It’s a very sly decision to make as it doesn’t seem like they are going to release an English-language version at all of the two-disc at all. But England is a part of Europe so maybe they (and we) will be lucky enough if they do get a two-disc, with all the extras. But, theirs doesn’t come out until February.
Regarding Blu-Ray:
DVD and Blu-Ray of Ratatouille will be released simultaneously.
Here is a BD covershot:
We already have Blu-Ray and HD-DVD for sale in Europe as well, but there are not that many discs available, neither are really affordable players for either format.
Regarding commentary:
On all Pixar DVDs in Germany that had a commentary it was English audio plus optional subtitles in various languages (even English).
Update: Areadvd.de has an announcement for all three versions, but oddly enough, no commentary is mentioned, not even for the Blu-ray version!
Also interesting is that the 2-Disc DVD appears to include some bonus features not included on the Blu-Ray.
So if you want all the features, you probably have to buy both…
