Do you think Ratatouille should be nominated for best

A lot of people are allright to say that Ratatouille is a new step in animation, so don’t you think it could (must ?) be nominated for best picture and Brad Bird for best director ?
Yeah, absolutely. It seems worthy enough. And it would be nice to see the Academy even consider it for Best Picture. Seriously, if this does actually happen, I will be incredibly glad.
I too am waiting to see the film. However, I think it’s too soon to size up the Best Picture nominees. Best Animated is easier to do because there are less Animated Films than other films. Who knows what other films could pop up which are serious Best Picture contenders?
I am also going to refrain from voting till I’ve seen it.
Is it even possible for Ratatouille to be nominated for both? 'Cause I’ve heard that it isn’t… And if it was nominated for both, then it would 99.99% be certain that it would win the award for Best Animated Feature.
But overall, I’d just be super-happy for it to just win the BAF award.
I don’t think that Ratatouille should be discluded from winning Best Picture just because there’s a BAF award, because that is very unfair and restrictive. At the same time, it’s very unlikely that Ratatouille will be put up for Best Feature, and even if it gets that far, it’s even more unlikely that it’s gonna win.
So, I say yes, it probably deserves it, but it also probably isn’t going to happen, unfortunately.
I believe Mr Lasseter himself made the good point that foreign language films can be nominated for Best Picture and Best Foreign Language Picture. By extension of this logic, there’s nothing to stop Animated Films, apart from any anti-animation bias that may or may not exist in the Academy, from an animated film being nominated for both.
Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture because at the time there was no animated film category. Now that there’s a pre-set “Best Animated Film” award, I doubt any animated movie in the future will be nominated for Best Picture (unless, of course, the animation category is eliminated). As much as I would like animated movies such as Ratatouille to be nominated for Best Picture, I think that would just cause a lot of confusion.
However, just because Ratatouille can’t get “the big one”, there are many other nominations it can receive while still under the animation category. For example: The Incredibles was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, and I would be thrilled if Ratatouille got that, too. It certainly deserves it (even more than The Incredibles did, in my humble opinion).
Well, obviously not all the films of 2007 have come out so far, but from what I’ve seen, Ratatouille DEFINITELY deserves a nomination for Best Picture.
And certainly, if it doesn’t win BAF (which it will), but, in the bizarre hypothetical case it didn’t, many will perish.

I certainly WISH Ratatouille would be nominated for Best Picture…but it can still get BAF, best screenplay, best score…best original song (Le Festin)…etc…
