Ratatouille - Official Opening day

Before the film came out we heard that Gusteau died “mysteriously”. In fact, I think it even says so at the beginning of the film…what does that mean?

Yeah, poor guy.

I didn’t like that Skinner guy, he was mean! I mean he was really short. I thought htat hat was bigger than him!

Gasduude: Y’know, when we first read that, I thought it was going to be a sizeable subplot of the film and end up with his death having been orchestrated to some degree or another by Skinner or someone… It wouldn’t have surprised me, at any rate, knowing that Brad Bird is not at all afraid to do things like that. But after seeing the film, I really don’t think that his death was underhand at all, and I’m content to pretty much set it aside.

And I’m pretty sure that they didn’t say that he died “mysteriously” in the film, just that he died shortly after one of his restaurant’s stars was stripped. The word “mysteriously” is limited only to synopses, if I remember correctly.

DElf4242 - Exactly. I thought that was the whole point, that…

[spoil]Skinner kills Gusteau to take over the restraunt, but then when he finds he has a heir (Linguini), he goes nuts trying to keep it a secret.[/spoil]

…but I guess not! It’d be great fan-fic material. :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t wait to see it!

Maybe I just think too dark but … [spoil]I actually thought Skinner was going to try to poison Linguini so that he could keep the restaurant. I thought Gusteau’s mysterious death was that Skinner poisoned him. I dunno.[/spoil] I think I read too much Shakespeare. I thought this before I saw the movie though.

FONY - Heh. Nice sub-plot. That would have been rather interesting actually, albeit a little “under-tenderized” for younger viewers. Had Skinner attempted to go through with that plan, the kids might have been scared out of their pants! I would have loved to have seen it happen, though.

John Ratzenberger is the voice of Mustafa, which character is that? Is that the waiter?

aZ - Yep, that “chubby” waiter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahh, only ONE month 'till I see Ratatouille!

^ Me too, Maggie! (If I manage to attend a preview screening)

I’ve got 11 days left until the official “Roadshow” of reminooishiiresutoran. And Sky, I’m trying to get preview tickets too for this weekend from one of my ‘connections’ at the Disney Store in Sendai. Hang in there everyone! Or in Japanese, Gumbatte!

I hope the Japanese love Remy. Japan seemed to love Monsters, Inc. a lot, didn’t they?
