Ratatouille Soundtrack!

Well, you can easily tell that the two scores were composed by the same “super genius.” It’s filled with a nice, jazzy kind of sound that’s very rare these days, and unlike TI, it adds a nice French flavour (no pun intended) that’s very welcome. I still like the Incredibles score just a little more, but this is another great score from Michael Giacchino, this century’s John Williams. Can’t wait to see what he does next, which right now is offically next year’s Star Trek, but fingers crossed that he’ll be back at Pixar with Wall-E.

Also, something I noticed that you’ll only find with the CD, is that the liner notes at the front of the case feature a rather funny disclaimer, similar to the motion- capture one that’s at the end of the movie, that states that the score is 100% pure analog and contains no loops or samples. I love how Mr. Giacchino only records his scores in analog and not digital, gives the music a little something extra that’s hard to define.

Anyways, it’s a pretty good CD, and a must have for any fan of Pixar, this film, film scores or just anyone who wants a great hour of music paradise. Too bad it’s so hard to find in store.

bah! Cassettes are silly. Give me an LP any day.

I just bought it off iTunes and it’s beautiful. Especially in iTunes where it melds the tracks together by fading the next one in in the last couple of seconds of the previous song. It’s just one fluid beautiful composition.

Oh and did I mention the kind folks at BVI are sending me tickets to a preview screening of Ratatouille, I don’t know when it is but I know I am getting tickets. Rachel, you might want to ring BVI in Melbourne and find out more and see if you can get tickets to one. I’m thinking it will be like the Cars preview screenings that took place last year in every major city in Aus.

bawpcwpn - Awesome! I’m glad you finally got your paws on the soundtrack and am also pleased that you have a chance to see a preview screening of the film, Ratatouille, itself. Have a great time!

Blasphemy! :stuck_out_tongue:

PV, that is a perfect description of the score! I absolutely loved it, it’s so amazing. My mom said there was an awesome flute part in one of the songs… I totally missed it. I gotta get the CD so I can hear it!

I thought the soundtrack was good, but it didn’t really convince me enough to make me want to go over to a store and go buy it.

PV - I agree with BandGeek727: Wonderful description of the score!

The Star Swordsman - Aww – I’m sorry you weren’t that crazy about it. I thought that it was magnificent; it’s cleverly composed and fits in beautifully with its film counterpart. Ah well. To each his own!

I would say that my favourite tracks from the score are…

[spoil]
Le Festin (The Festival)
Welcome to Gusteau’s (You gotta love the piece of music from the teaser)
Souped Up (A lot of fun)
Remy Drives a Linguini (This song is a lot of fun too, all the crazy instruments and sounds Michael Giacchino is awesome)
Kiss and Vinegar (this is just awesome. Definitley has that Michael Giacchinoness to it. Sort of like Lost almost. The modulation between chords in it is cool and really highlights the creepiness of it. Can’t wait to find out where in the film this is)
Anyone Can Cook (It elegantly plays that recurring theme from Le Festin/Ratatouille Main Theme. Absolutely gorgeous. I think i’m running out of superlatives :stuck_out_tongue:)
End Creditouilles (A lovely blend of some of the previous tracks)
Ratatouille Main Theme (It’s almost like a love theme this. Beautiful)
[/spoil]

Oh there is lot of woodwind and oboe and stuff used. Kind of reminds me of his scores he has done for war games like Medal of Honour etc.

Anyway, love the soundtrack.

I got the soundtrack last night and have been listening to it all day ish at work
It’s so beautiful. And easy to work too

bawpcwpn who BVI? ish interested in trying to get some tickets

BVI=Buena Vista International

thanks bawpcwpn

I want the soundtrack so bad! x_x Sadly all I came across in the Disney Store was a cd of ‘inspired by Ratatouille’ songs. Looked like a bunch of strange songs about food.

I’m with you, FONY. I really want it, even if I haven’t seen the movie! But I guess I have to wait some weeks or even months 'till it comes out here. Besides that, I live in a small town, and the local CD shop usually doesn’t have many “new stuff”, you know what I mean? I have to go to the big cities if I want to buy it… :unamused:

Mitch: I guess it just wasn’t upbeat enough. But ut was still wonderful nonetheless.

bawpcwpn - You may as well flat-out say that you love the whole soundtrack.

I don’t blame you, though! It’s awesome…

The Star Swordsman - Ah yes, I see what you mean there. This particular soundtrack does, indeed, have a softer “flair” to it. Although it retains an upbeat quality/tempo in many instances, a good percentage of the score itself is fluently “down-sized” and soothing. I rather like it that way, but that’s just my specific taste preference. I love “fluffy” beats over head-banging ones, but, again, that’s just me…

But it’s all cool! It’s all cool.

Ah, woodwinds… sigh
I have to get myself a copy.

FONY, I love your sig! So many cool toys!
squints Is that Gypsy?! :open_mouth: Where did you find her?

Anyone know exactly where they’re selling the soundtrack? I think I’m looking in the wrong places, like the Disney store. xD

Thanks Bandgeek ^^ My brother actually had Gypsy- he was the one who bought all the miniature playsets when he was really little. He was cleaning out his room to have it painted and he uncovered her. ^^

So I went to Wal-Mart late tonight for some Mountain Dew, and ended up getting the Ratatouille soundtrack along with it. I have to say, it’s amazing! I just wish I could find the lyrics to “Le Festin.” sigh

If anyone knows where to get the lyrics to that song, please inform me!!! Thanks much!

Good, they have it at Wal-Mart. I’ll get it there, then…

MitchL I guess when it comes to movie soundtracks, i want something to keep me excited the entire trip. Soft orchestrated music is good, but I like upbeat better. It keeps me awake.
