lizardgirl - Puh-ha! That’s awesome! I hope it does end up on YouTube, as I really want to see it. ![]()
I just saw another TV spot. I don’t remember much, but they said ratatouille was the best movie of the summer, someore good stuff, then that was it.
The Star Swordsman - Well, they got one thing right: Ratatouille is the best film of the summer; at least, it is in my eyes. ![]()
Well, it has been doing better than all the other summer movies in reviews.
Well, I suppose that this is an adequate place to put this…
Remember when one of you guys (I believe it was either lizardgirl, rachel, or FONY) mentioned that you saw a Ratatouille spot in the theater – something about a “Knock-Off NIgel” reference? Well, is this (below) what you were talking about?
I just recently discovered it on YouTube and was giggling pretty hard when I saw it. I absolutely love how Pixar will spend some extra time to create these little phrases for the characters to say only in tv spots. ![]()

Thanks so much for that, Mitch! And thanks lizardgirl for letting us know about it. ![]()
I really like that Knock-off Nigel advertisement. Everything Remy says is so true. I don’t know how anyone could watch Ratatouille on their little TV, all blurry and out of focus, when they could have the real thing, plus the short film, and trailer to boot. Watching movies is an experience, and should be treated as such.
I love how Remy says “DVD” - it’s so cute! And the “pirated” version of Ratatouille was hilarious, although a bit exaggerated, but it’s not that far from the truth.
Very funny. All-in-all, a very effective ad, and it never sounds as if Pixar are getting preachy or anything, they’re just telling the truth…
On another note: The other week, I finally saw the “Rat-a-2-ee” tv spot. I love the song that goes with it. But I only saw that ad once, and I can’t seem to find on YouTube. Oh well.
Leading up to its release, we didn’t really get that many tv spots, and now it seems as if the Ratatouille ads have been replaced by Surf’s Up - and that doesn’t come out for a week yet. And I don’t think Disney have done a good job promoting Ratatouille in other areas, like competitions with TV shows or anything, either.
Oh, I was going to post it and then I saw you had.

(This is an ad that uses the term “knock-off Nigel” as well, although it’s very different I think they could be related)

If you go follow the link and go to the “videos” section they have the “Rat-a-2-ee” ad in the “T.V. spots” part, under “One word”
Really cool TV spot Mitch! I like the message it tries to get across.
Haha! I absolutely loooved it!
It carries a very important message and it’s really funny! ![]()
Thanks for the link, Mitch! ![]()
Yep, that’s the one, Mitch. I saw it in the cinema again a few days ago when I saw 1408. It makes me laugh every time. Thanks for posting the link! ![]()
Hehe. No problem, guys! ![]()

While we have a topic about T.V. spots, why don’t we try to predict what the DVD ads will be?
I suspect that they’ll probably make a christmas ad, they made one for Nemo and since Ratatouille is coming out just a few days after the aniversary of Nemo’s release they’ll probably do the same, (anybody remember “the best place to find Nemo is under the tree”?). I have some idea what they’ll do, I just really hope I’m wrong because it envoles a really bad pun. They might parody the opening lines of twas the night before christmas, using clips from the 10 min preview. They would have that scene with Remy fixing the soup and the anoucer would being saying something along the lines of “Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creture was stirring not even a…(and then Remy would get caught and you see a bit where somebody screams) Raaaat!”
As I said, I really hope they don’t advertise it like that, it’s almost as bad as:
[spoil]The Chin-easy egg rolls canpaine[/spoil]
MiniChuchan - I agree with you in that they will probably show some tv spots for the Ratatouille DVD that feature a Christmas theme. As you said, I hope that they won’t be too cheesey (no pun intended); however, they just might do something along the afore-mentioned lines. (snigger)
Perhaps Pixar will concoct an entirely new reel of animation in which Remy bakes some Christmas cookies or something? There’s no harm in dreaming… ![]()

I think they might say something about a perfect Christmas gift, describe it with tasty terms, then maybe show a couple clips from the extras section of the DVD?
The Star Swordsman - That sounds plausible. Most commercials adds for DVDs are composed in that manner, so I’d say that you’re right on track as far as advertising is concerned! ![]()

Well, I am just going with what I have seen in the past with most DVD ads I have seen. ![]()
Forgive me if someone has mentioned this special before, but last night, at about three in the morning, a Ratatouille special was shown on Sky. I recorded it and have just finished watching it. It was really interesting- they showed the Pixar employees at a cooking class and practising the bit where Linguini falls into the river by pushing employees into a swimming pool to see the dynamics of wet cloth. One guy said that this was just ‘an excuse to abuse Pixar employees’.
And they had lots of information all about the actors and the characters, and lots of praise for Brad Bird, of course.
lizardgirl - Haha! Oh yes, that’s actually one of the Ratatouille podcasts. The name and number of it escapes me, but you can view that very “special” on the official Ratatouille website here:
Thanks for the information/update, though! ![]()

Ratatouille - The Technical Ingredients, was it’s name. Glad you got to see it, lizardgirl! ![]()
