Yes! Just that opening scene they released, so colorful and fun!
Taio Cruz’s song for the movie “Telling the World” has now been released

Thank you for the link, tribefan!
Remember I said this, guys?
My prayers have been answered!
I just finished a particularly grueling assignment, so it was to my pleasant surprise that they’ve released a new music video for Rio. As tribefan has mentioned, the title is ‘Telling the World’ and it’s sung by none other than Taio Cruz of ‘Break Your Heart’ and ‘Dynamite’ fame. I’m so pleased for two reasons.
Firstly, it was featured in the final theatrical towards the end, and I’m glad to finally discover that it is this song. I always like to find out music used in movie trailers, so I was really wondering whether the end song was an existing number or one specially composed for this movie, and I’m certainly exuberant that it is the latter!
Secondly, it’s in the grand tradition of official film music videos like Disney did in the 90s with ‘Go The Distance’ (Hercules), ‘If I Never Knew You’ (Pocahontas), and ‘True to Your Heart’ (Mulan) where the singer interacts with setpieces and environments from the environment interspersed with projections of scenes from the movie. Dreamworks did with ‘Somewhere out of the Blue’ (Road to El Dorado), Pixar with ‘Life is a Highway’ (Cars), and Animal Logic with ‘To The Sky’, but most of the time the singer sings in the setting without clips from the movie like in ‘Hit Me Up’ (Happy Feet), ‘Never Knew I Needed’ (Princess & The Frog) and ‘Darling I Do’ (Shrek 4).
So I was overjoyed to see Taio singing in the middle of the avenues crossing Rio City Hall and along the beaches of Ipanema and Copabana, with these massive projections of scenes from Rio on the art-deco buildings and bridges. The last time an official music video was this awe-inspiring was ‘If I Never Knew You’, which featured similar large-scale projections on New York’s iconic skyscrapers. Coincidentally, the male lead Jon Secada sang the Brazilian Portugese dub of this song.
And what beautiful scenes! I especially love the shot at 2:21, which will probably rival Wall-E’s ‘Define Dancing’ scene for a sublime slice of cinematic heaven.
And I’m pleased that my prediction of the climax is proven correct, and I can’t wait to see how Blu conquers his inner demons at this critical moment.
Oh yes, and the song itself’s excellent, too. Nice lyrics, if a little repetitive, but I really love the etheral synthesiser beats and the tribal drums and “Ooh aay ooh” hook.
So yeah, if you haven’t seen it, here is is → Taio Cruz - “Telling The World” from the RIO soundtrack
Seems like I’m the only one enthusiastic about Taio Cruz’ OST music video. No matter.
If anyone likes mash-ups (like I do), you’ll dig this clever masking of the Angry Birds into Nigel’s musical number → youtube.com/watch?v=5XpEQ43OmN8
I’ve seen advertisments of Rio on TV and around streets. It actually looks like a very good film. Blue Sky’s films are pretty good. Ice Age was okay, but Robots was in my opinion, really cool.
Rio is gonna be released this week on April 8th in some countries, one week earlier than the USA
Have you seen Horton? It’s not bad, either! My favourite part was the inspired anime sequence spoof.
Eyup. It’s quite ironic that Brazil’s getting this a day after Argentina, Australia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Russia and Singapore.
Anyway, here’s some photos of the premiere in Rio from the FB page.
For the uninitiated, the building is the legendary Copacabana Palace Hotel along Copacabana Beach. Among its famous guests are Madonna, Michael Jackson, Walt Disney and Elton John, among others. I’d love to see the giant projections on the side of the building, I bet it would look magnificent.
And here’s a billboard closer to home for the Americans.
Not the world’s most creative tagline, but I love Blu’s scarf stretching across the poster.
That’s crazy awesome how they projected that on Copacabana! I want to go there some day! Was the whole film showed on the building?
I am going to watch RIO this Sunday April 10th, I already bought the tickets
EJE: Not sure. I know the second image is not the title sequence though, but just a title card, so most likely they were showing screenshots and certain scenes from the movie like in the Taio Cruz MV. <3
tribefan: Good news, everyone! Thanks for the link, tribefan, you can always be counted on to provide movie updates. As is customary, I must adopt my ‘cynical awareness’ stance and state that there are many more reviews coming in closer to the release and there are bound to be a few negative ones. But 100% at the moment with 7 reviews in is certainly quite remarkable.
bryan: Good for you! Where do you live, is this an advance or is Rio opening in your country this Thursday too?
Welp, here’s the third (how many trailers are there already? ) and hopefully final trailer for you guys to peruse and enjoy. Some scenes are repeated from the various featurettes and footage clips, but Will.I.Am’s little boogie at the end sure is hilarious!
Hopefully Blue Sky remembers to introduce some drama and pathos into Rio, or it’ll just be one huge party without the suspense.
right now I came back to Quito-Ecuador, and here all films are released on Fridays, Rio is being very publicized here, my God, it is everywhere, it seems it is gonna be HUGE
side note, we will be having some biggest summer blockbusters a week earlier than the US, specially the Paramount and Fox films, but Winnie The Pooh, Cowboys & Aliens and comedies like Horrible Bosses will be delayed until August… unfortunately disney will release Cars 2 on June 24, no preview screenings before…
I’m going to go see this opening day. But it’s mainly for the music. I LOOOOVE John Powell!!! Other than the first Ice Age, Hotrton and Robots (which at this point is kind of forgetable to me. I need to watch it again), I don’t care for Blue Sky Studio’s films. I’m not expecting much from the story. So I’m going in with low expectations. But I do expect to be tapping my foot quite a bit! I hope it’s one of those soundtracks that will have me going home from the movie and buying the soundtrack off iTunes right away like I did with How to Train Your Dragon.
bryan: So you’re from Ecuador, huh? I reckon Rio’s gonna do ‘gangbusters’ in Latin American markets.
theoutsider: You can listen to the soundtrack on Youtube if you can’t wait. I’m trying to resist listening to too many tracks to keep it as much of a surprise aurally as possible!
Anyway, not sure if you guys know Bobby Pontillas - he’s a concept artist and animator who works at Blue Sky that designed the crew T-shirt (I really wish I can get a copy somehow). He has a pretty cool blog where he’s posted some neat pictures.

Signed poster for charity fund-raising. The winning bid was US$265.00.
Also, be sure to check out the ‘February 16, 2011’ post for a peek into Blue Sky’s studios (yes, they even have a breakfast bar like Pixar!) and March 1, 2011 for a hilarious video of his colleague Garrett Shikumes doing a reference video for the ‘user inactivity’ dance animations on the official site.
Also, right now, I’m so freakin’ fantabulously excited. I’ve managed to convince two of my best friends to go watch Rio at a local theatre today (it has beautiful art deco internal architecture, just like the Marvellous City’s buildings!) and I’ll be dropping into a morning class and skipping the afternoon one to catch a ‘Cheap Tuesday’ matinee in 3D.
Cicade Maravilhosa, aqui en venho!
I don’t speak Portuguese, but I have some familiarity with Spanish. Did you say “Marvelous City (Rio), here I come?”
Anyway, thanks for all those links! The Crew shirt has a lovely design on it, and I love his workspace!
Only 5 more days until Rio’s premier here, and my birthday!
ok, I watched Rio yesterday, I would have wanted to write my thoughts before, but I was very, very busy… ok, now I start; the film is so colorful and funny, blu-sky did it again !!! no surprise… , I loved the animation and the landscapes from Rio de Janeiro, simply beautiful, I liked Blu and Jewel story despite of not feeling them as a real and charming couple, there were 2 characters (Pedro and Nico) who stole the show but sometimes I felt them a little annoying, the same goes to the monkeys, there was a bulldog (Luiz), I found him cheerful and amusing, but a little disgusting to see him on the screen (you will know what I am talking about when you see the whole film),on the other hand I was a little dissapointed with the story, after seeing this I might say that Pixar should have never cancelled Newt, (if that was the main reason??; now I realize that both films don’t have nothing to do) Rio’s synosis told us about the last 2 macaws of their kind, well the film does not focus on that theme, it is all about the same ice age formula, (and most animated films fomula, too), they got lost and they have to find their way to go home,??? in this case Blu wants to find his owner, I must admit that Rio as a film never excited me at all, but I gotta recognize that it was still enjoyable, I noticed that children and moms enjoyed the most this movie, Rio is obviously an improve from the ice age series, but nothing out of this world, a very predictable film,
I think Rio’s biggest problem was the lack of a powerful and beloved character, neither Blu, nor Jewel stole my heart, such a pitty,
final thoughts: Rio has a simple story made of beautiful and stunning animation, accompanied with tons of jokes, some catchy songs, and forgettable characters,
PS: I know I am missing some of the main characters, specially the evil ones but I don’t wanna spoil the film to the ones who haven’t seen it yet,
for me Rio got a:
B-
it was so close to get a B, maybe a rewatch could improve my final grade
it is difficut to admit but I liked Rango a little bit more, just a little
true, tickets were sold out everywhere, and in Brazil it broke records on its opening weekend, Rio was bigger than ice age 3 and shrek 4, definetely a better film than the ones I quoted
I’m kind of scared to read your review… is it spoiler-free? I wanna see the movie without knowing anything beforehand.
Anyone know… when is the release for Europe and specifically The Netherlands?
I’m not suprised by what you wrote. I heard the previews for the soundtrack on iTunes, and other than the song used during that 2 minute opening posted on the Internet not to long ago, nothing really stuck out to me. It’s not what I expected overall. After hearing the preview of the soundtrack, I’ve been debating about whether or not I should see this or Scream 4 (which I completely forgot about until somebody brought it up yesterday) on Friday. I still think about how I paid 30 plus bucks on tickets alone to see Ice Age 3, and sleeping though most of it.
When I read about how animated movies that aren’t done by Pixar don’t have solid stories, or have predictable stories, no lovable characters, no good animation or don’t look to good, I wonder, what was the people behind the films doing for the past three or four years? Do they spend as many hours working on their films as the folks at Pixar do? Or is it a regular nine to five for the group. And they just don’t put in the extra hard work and hours that goes into putting together a great movie. I know Rio has great animation and looks good, but with a predictable story and no loveable characters, how much time did they spend on the story.
