Sarah Palin and Republicans

If that is an average of the entire population of homosexuals, then I don’t doubt it’s a legitimate statistic. Unfortunately, it is very easy to lie with statistics. Many gay people can’t deal with the intolerance that they face and kill themselves at a very young age. Others are murdered simply because they exist. In addition, the majority of AIDS victims in developed nations are gay men. The population of homosexuals is small enough that these three things alone have a significant impact on statistics such as the “average age.”

Another way to think about it: There’s a group of 10 people. Eight of them live to be 80 and die of old age. Two die in a car crash at 25. Is the average age of this population 69 years? [this is not a math test]

And your point being what, exactly…?

In my country, Australian Aborigines live on average 20 years less than the average non-indigenous Australian. Does this mean we should look down upon those who are of aboriginal descent, or should we look at why the life expectancy is shorter and aim to fix these problems and educate so the gap is shortened. What would Jesus do?

Homosexuality is unnatural. It just does not happen. It’s basically a choice.

Why is it bad? Because it is an abomination to God.

I don’t believe in homosexuality, but people bring up a good point that people have the right to do so accoring to the 1st ammendment of our constitution.

Unnatural? Then why have cases of animals in the wild who prefer same-gender relationships been documented? Animals don’t have social limits on their behaviour when it comes to same-gender relationships, unlike the ones humans have imposed on one another, so surely this would be as natural as you could get.

What doesn’t happen? Homosexual acts, or the attraction of people of the same gender? I can tell you know that homosexual acts do happen, unless you live in a fantasy world where you do not believe this. The brain of a male gay man is more likely to have similarities of a female brain, than the brain of a straight male.

Also, a If it’s a sin to be gay, why would God create gay people? God doesn’t make mistakes, does he? Why would he give supposedly straight people same-gender attractions if being gay is a sin? Seems like a pretty sick joke to me.

Ha-ha-ha! Why, in their right mind, would anyone choose to have feelings for someone of the same gender when it will result in being somewhat socially unaccepted (due to homophobia, mind you), higher rates of depression, suicide and feelings of isolation?

At what point in your life did you “choose” to be straight? When did you wake up and say to yourself (assuming you are straight) “Yeah, I like the look of those girls over there, I think I want to be attracted to them for the rest of my life.” Ask any gay person and they’ll usually say that they started having feelings towards people of the same gender ranging in ages from 4 - 12. How would these feelings come up? Especially as even as close of 20 years ago, homosexuality was not discussed openly, at least not in a positive context, and especially not to children. Why would those feelings suddenly come up out of the blue? To defy their parents? To choose to be different? I certainly know that my main aim as a child was to fit in, rather than to stand out.

And according to your Bible, so is wearing clothing made from mixed fibres. And eating shellfish. Or other equally outdated laws that we have had the mind to disregard today. Guilty of those “sins”? Then you are equally as guilty of the “sin” of homosexuality, if sins are all equal.

And that whole “why is it a sin?” Because it’s in the Bible" “Why is it in the Bible?” “Because it is” is not going to fly with me. You find me one good reason, outside of the Bible, why homosexuality is wrong. Over history people have used the Bible to justify many horrendous acts, and suppression of people’s rights, but as human rights have come into fashion, those stupid rules and outdated thinking, with the justification of the Bible, have thankfully been left behind and will continue to do so.

Honestly, I think that people hide behind the Bible as an excuse for being homophobic and closed-minded, just as many people in the last century did the same for racism (and still do.) Never have I been so baffled why people who call themselves “Christian” would focus on such a “sin” such as homosexuality, when that same energy could be put into learning to be more accepting in the world. What would Jesus do? I honestly don’t believe Jesus would see anything wrong with a person having a consensual relationship with someone else, even if they happen to be of the same gender. I really don’t.

Okay, i messed up big time in my last post. Sorry.

Why are there both males and females?

A113 - If you are talking about the human species, of which most of the population are either male or female, well, the answer is to reproduce, of course.

And this has what exactly to do with being gay? Not all females and males can reproduce. If the reason why they should be allowed to marry is because they are of the opposite gender, and hence, it would be assume they could reproduce, then you would have to go the other way and say that the marriage rights that are denied to gay couples, should be extended to other non-reproducing couples such as infertile heterosexual couples.

I am looking forward to your responses on the last page. I spent a lot of time on writing that out, so I’d appreciate it if you did the same in return with your rebuttals, otherwise I feel life we are both just being defensive, rather than really considering the other person’s point of view. Ok?

Oh. Uh…okay. :sunglasses:

Give me a link to one of those “studies”.

He didn’t. Romans 1:18-32

I wonder the same thing about people who use harmful drugs.

Outside of the Bible, nothing is wrong.

Many gay couples adopt children. Many children end up being given up because their parents did not believe in abortion. Gay couples give these children the second chance at life that the pro-life activists [the majority of whom are homophobes] campaign for. Most people fail to realize that these two issues come full circle.

Yeah, anyone can adopt children.

Are those poor children ever effected by the fact that their parents are gay??

Well, all people are negatively effected by something sometime in their life.
I guess the only way to find that out is to ask one.

too bad i don’t know any…are there any???

I don’t believe in homosexuality, but if people want to be gay, then I say let them. It is their right. Even though God says it is wrong, that doesn’t mean that gays can be part of God’s family.

exactely right TSS…they still posses a soul that is in rather perilous condition but is still there.

I’m for Obama, but even I will say that I think she would make a great VP and that I think that the media is WAY too harsh on her. Every morining I wake up and watch the Today Show and say to myself, “give it a rest, people!” :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:  :open_mouth:

475th post!!!

That is called Liberal Media…

Did you know that someone hacked into her email to attempt to extract quotes. That means that someone obviously working for the Democratic party invaded into private property and stole emails. Workers will then use quotes from those emails, restate them by cutting out words or sentences and create a different meaning to a delicate subject.

Is the liberal media pointing this out!?!?!

What would you feel like if someone hecked into your email? Do you have anything they could take out of context?

and you know what…liberal media is growing!!!

Chirs Matthews and Olbermann are the worst of the liberal men. They were praising Obama’s speech and totally degradding McCain’s speech. And did you hear what they said after McCain showed video of 9/11 before his speech.

“We’re really sorry. The people of america shouldn’t have seen that.”

I’d rather see those buildings fall to remind me of what keeps america strong and why we fight for liberty and why i can say that i have been a proud american since i was born. Not since my husband started running for president. When i was born!

“Hacked”? The college student, frequenter of a message board which perpetrates such things for the fun of it, used commonly available information to reset her Yahoo email password. Calling him a hacker is an insult to hackers everywhere. Anyway, he was looking for evidence that she was using the account for public work (he found none) And you’re a lil’ paranoid.

Let me introduce you to my friends Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter.

Hey! Guess what! On top of that, reading someone else’s e-mail without their consent is a federal crime!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s sad how low people will go.

Again, not sure what you mean by saying you don’t “believe” in homosexuality… And being gay is not a choice (see my post on the previous page.) But I appreciate the sentiment that you think that gay people should not be excluded from the Christian religion, the way that they are. =)

one two three and well as this list. Happy reading. And, this is a story from my own experience, but a relative of mine used to have a female chicken that would try to reproduce with other female chickens. Heh. :sunglasses:

You see, people who are gay would have a heard time believing that… Are you saying that the same-gender attractions that homosexuals have, are a figment of their imagination?

You do realise it’s not the homosexuality itself that makes people depressed, it’s societies negative (but slowly changing) attitude towards it. This is especially supported by the fact that the level of depression that homosexuals feel decreases as the tolerance towards them increases.

And I’m not exactly sure of the relevance between using drugs (which is a choice) and homosexuality (which isn’t.) You are also making the assertion that homosexual behaviour has negative consequences, not to mention that it you are saying it has negative consequences that are on the level of taking illegal drugs.

Bit of a confusing sentence, here… Are you saying that outside of the Bible nothing is wrong, and therefore, what is in the Bible must be wrong (probably weren’t saying that.) Or are you saying that outside of the Bible, nothing is wrong as in “anything goes, no morals” type of thing?

I take it that you are bailing out on my challenge of finding one good reason (outside of the Bible) why homosexuality is wrong, then?

Hmm. Slightly offensive, but ok then.

It’s interesting how you can come to assumptions about certain groups of people without actually coming into contact with them in real life, ey? It’s easy to judge someone from a distance, isn’t it?

Makes me think of that lady from The Simpsons: “Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the children?!”

And if you want to know what effect there is on children being brought up by gay parents, why don’t you, I don’t know… go and look it up? Here’s some a couple of articles summarising some studies that I happened to find. article 1 article 2

The studies have come up with similar findings: children raised by parents who are of the same gender and in a relationship are no more or less likely to be disadvantaged by this. Unfortunately, children of same-gender parents are more likely to be on the receiving end of homophobic attitudes, but this is more of a reflection of society than of that particular family unit.
