Say something about yourself

I would love to be able to create an animated series one day. Too bad I can’t draw. Wha-WHAH!

I can’t draw either :frowning:

That’s the brilliant thing about it Spirit and aerostarmonk! Walt Disney himself couldn’t draw himself out of a bag. But he was a dreamer, and a brilliant idea man, and a damn good story teller.

Also, have you seen children’s shows today? A lot of them did not take any talent drawing wise.

He couldn’t? That’s interesting.

He could cartoon decent, but wasn’t fantastic. Ub Iwerks was his right hand artist.

It seems like it’s simultaneously easier and harder to get an animated series running these days if you can’t draw. I don’t know which end of the stick I’m going to get.

Some of the shows these days seem to have a strange/unique style for children’s television. They can be so simple or exaggerated to the point where they no longer demand the same technical skills as shows we grew up on (and that’s how we could see flaws in the work). I wish I still watched cartoons sometimes.

I watched cartoons religiously until I lost cable. Many of the shows that people see as the bane to animation’s existence hopped right up to the top of my list. Things like Flapjack and Adventure Time.

I don’t know how long it’s been since there was a show where you can actually tell the difference between who storyboarded what episode through obvious visual cues alone. It presents things as more of a collaborative effort.

Now I’m stuck in No Man’s Land. Saturday morning is wasteland of garbage and repeats. Bring back those good ol’ days

My love for Pixar grows every day.

I… I… hangs head in shame I don’t really like The Searchers all that much. That fact may have my aspiring film enthusiast membership card revoked.

Nah. Due to True Grit more and more enthusiasts are admitting that they’re not really that big a fan of all of Wayne’s films.

^Nah, you’re still in good standing. I like that movie, but I don’t think it’s the best western ever. I like Shane loads better. Magnificent Seven for that matter, too.

Actually, in the High Noon-Río Bravo feud, I stand up for High Noon.

Ah, I completely forgot about High Noon. Another one I would put above The Searchers.

High Noon is my personal favorite out of those! I like that it’s B&W, though I’m not completely sure why–I just don’t find desert colors as aesthetically appealing as everyone else does. That one I’d actually watch a few more times.

Magnificent Seven isn’t bad, either, but I’ll stick to ABL and Seven Samurai, thank ya very much.

I’m so left out of the fight. My credibility ends because I’m only versed in the neo-western.

Oh, yeah I definitely prefer Seven Samurai over Magnificent Seven, though I’ll take it over ABL, even though that’s in my top 3 for Pixar movies. While Star Wars, is my favorite movie, the story of Seven Samurai is pretty much my favorite story ever, so I love most adaptations of it.

I actually avoid ABL like the plague because I have a rather severe case of lepidopterophobia,.

Google time! I can understand fear of moths, but butterflies are okay to me because they’re graceful.

My biggest fear is of sharks, alligators, crocodiles (huge, water-dwelling apex predators, basically), and any large body of water. Especially dark or murky water. If someone paid me $100 to wade out into the ocean past my knees, I couldn’t do it. A couple years back, I was photographing a widdle birdy, and suddenly I found myself surrounded by a rising tide on a sandbar. The water was a little muddy and I started to cry because I knew I had to go back to shore on my own. It was like >10 feet away and I was totally being a baby, but I would react the same way if it happened now.

Oh man, that just made me think of another lame story of mine. I was about 10-12 and snorkeling in an attraction at one of the Disney World waterparks (Typhoon Lagoon?), and there were some small sharks very far below me. I repeat, SMALL sharks, VERY far below me. It was a terrifying experience for me. I could never go on a Disney cruise, because I would probably be crying the whole time.

It all goes back to my preschool years when I had a nightmare where I was eaten by a kite that turned into a monstrous butterfly. It kinda scarred me for life. One of my weird fears is that there’s actually some undiscovered carnivorous species out there. Or that the Gojira reboot will produce a Mothra with incredibly detail and production value.

One of my neighbors also has what she calls a very healthy respect for the water. She basically feels the same way you do about large bodies and murky stuff.
