Sounds awesome, Mitch! I hope the rest of the year turns out to be swell!
Glad you like it Mitch! I can’t wait for college… ![]()
Mitch - Glad you are having fun at college already! ![]()
I think we’ve all had one of those teachers before. So I hear ya.
Yeah, I think it it would be best if you changed to “life drawing”, it would help out for a job at Pixar a lot more.
Heheh. It sounds as if you could get lost there. But I’m sure the college will seem a lot smaller after you’ve been there a while (that always happens)
But it sounds very beautiful.
I can wait. I love my high school life.
Bah! All you early kids are making me jealous. I still have til the 5th for my first classes, but the 28th is orientation for commuting students. Can’t friggin’ wait. I really don’t look forward for forking out the money for supplies, but it’s totally worth it. Mitch, I think you’ll that lesson all to soon if you’re going into those drawing classes.
Oh and you were talking about campuses. I hadn’t really thought about it, but I know that I’m really going to miss MSU. It may have been the greenest (no pun intended) environment I’ve ever lived in. No electricity poles or wires to block your view. A woodlot and river right behind my dorm. Botanical gardens, miles of sidewalks. sigh And I traded that for a 5 building campus in the middle of a shady looking area in north downtown Detroit. Ah well, at least I finally get to be in a place where I can learn illustration properly. Trees or no trees, I’m going! ![]()
Right. When I decided that I was determined to try my damnedest to gain a job at Pixar, I thought that familiarizing myself with a Mac would be a good idea knowing full well that they use them (as well as Linux too as some of you may notice from their podcasts). There was a mac at my old school in 2005 that I became familiar with and fell in love with iMovie. I actually made the majority of the videos for presentation evenings at my school that year (it was only a small school of about 350). I think that’s even how I got an A in Phys Ed because I did the sports video for the year for my Phys Ed teacher. Anyway that’s beside the point. That year I decided I should get myself a mac to use for video editing and animation etc, and at the start on last year I did! Little did I know I would fall absolutely in love with the machine and find it to be the best computer I have ever had the chance of using in my entire life!
Just another thing. I always here about “college”. Is “college” the Australian/British equivalent of University? Over here (NSW Education System), we have Kindergarten to Grade 6 which is Primary School. Then Grade 7 -12 is High School with Grades 11-12 considered to be the “Senior” years. Most people when they finish Grade 12 are 18 or turning 18 that year or the beginning of the year after. Then comes University.
Is that how it generally works in the US? (I know that you have 3 groups throughout school i.e. Elementary, High and Junior High)
Yup - We have Elementary (K-5), Middle/Junior High (6-8), and High (9-12).
They used to be grouped slightly differently thus the reason most people now refer to Jr. High as Middle.
Then we have (generally) four years of “College” (optional unless you want a good job - generally) which is the equivalent of University. In fact - most of us go to a University (I go to Florida State University) but they’re divided into colleges which are areas of study (I’m actually in three - The College of Arts & Science - for meteorology, physics, and math - The College of Information - for Information Technology - and The College of Social Science - for Political Science. Most people are just in one college though depending on their field, and some people opt to go to just a College that’s on a campus that specializes in just a couple of fields. Also - a lot of people will go to a Community College for two years that’s in there home town to knock out the basic courses so they can stay at home during that time and then go to a University for the rest of it.
I’m going into my third year at university… in the music program. How can I NOT like that?? I love my program so much, and I love what I learn. However, music is one of the hardest things to learn so I’m not looking forward to the workload. However, I’m looking forward to these particular classes:
-Electroacoustic Music
-New Music and Technology
-Composition III (I always love composition class!!)
-American Film 1929-1969*
*I take film studies courses as my non-music electives. I think this is the best approach to becoming a film composer.
Next year, I can’t wait to start my Conducting classes!!
I love university. I love the fact that I’m going to one outside of my city in order to know how it’s like to live away from my family in order to be prepared once I wish to permanently move out. I love the people in my program… they get stressed as I do, but also have such positive and funny attitudes towards everything. And my university is in a much smaller town than where I’m from (Toronto), so it’s nice to see what it’s like in a smaller community. Very cute.
I am starting my next year in High School tommorow! I am so excited! I have got Drama, Choir, and Digital Media (which is essentially making movies) for my electives. Not to mention all the other after-school/in-school activities I shall be participating in, which include: Drama CLub, Film Club, Ballroom Dancing, Improv Club, Advanced Acting, and Musical Theatre! I am going to have so much fun this year!
I’m going back to school in about 2-3 weeks. I’ll be going into 7th.
Mitch - I know that when I got to my school, it didn’t seem so big until I had to walk the length of the whole thing. Thank goodness they decided to put in a bus system last year.
Speaking of, I go to Liberty University, and classes started yesterday. Since I’m an English major, I’m taking 4 English classes:
Literary Criticism (this class scares me!)
Advanced World Literature
Children’s Literature
Musical Theater (thank goodness for electives!)
I’m also taking an integrative class (Contemporary Health Issues), since they want us to take courses in other courses of study and be all well-rounded and stuff.
Also, I’m a senior (finally!) and so I’m looking forward to graduating this spring!
Lucky you. You stil have a break while many of us restart the toment of school all over again.

Hehe, well, I’m going to start school only in about one month.
Here we always start school in the second half of September…
About me, I’m a little terrified of going to school this year.
I’m going to another one, which is about 20-30 miles away from where I live, and I’ll have to catch the train and a bus every day. That’s something I’m really not used to. Besides, my social abilities are terrible, and I’m not gonna make friends very easily… ![]()
Welp, so far is so good! Here are the classes I currently attend:
- Introduction to Communication Design/Graphic Design
- Drawing and Composition 1
- Some other program that I don’t remember the name of, but that has to do with Macintoshs
I dropped the 2D Design class because it didn’t deal with the area of expertise that I thought it dealt with. I’m actually rather glad that I don’t have to attend that particular class anymore, as the teacher was rather…boring. (snigger)
So yeah, I’m having lots of fun. The workload is actually not as immense as I thought it would be; at least, it’s not for the time being.
My favorite class is currently the “Graphic Design” one. Fun fun! ![]()
Woo!! I’m goin’ to Pixar…in the future! ![]()
– Mitch
The Star Swordsman, JesusFreak, and Gasduude - Thanks, dudes! ![]()
rachel - Yeah, you always have that one, pessimistic advisor/teacher who isn’t quite as enthusiasitc about his/her profession as you thought he/she would be. It kinda sucks.
(snigger)
The campus itself isn’t horrendously immense, but it’s large enough that I need to carry a map with me for the time being. I’ll master the ropes easily enough, though. ![]()
Haunt - Oh my gosh… The supplies! I didn’t realize how miniscule an amount the contents of my wallet were until now… ![]()
Ooo – trees and a river! What a pleasant environment to spend a section of your life around. It’s a shame that you had to move, but at least you’re advancing in your career! Heheh.
Dash - My gosh. How do you possibly handle all of that? The workload must be…immense. (snigger)
Aggie - Have fun with your musically-integrated classes! So you’re studying to become a film composer, I take it? If so, I hope to see your name in some film’s credits in the future. ![]()
The Star Swordsman - Have a fantastic experience, dude!
KE - Heh. That makes two of us then. I only need a map, thank goodness.
Sooo…does/did the campus you attend(ed) install buses take students to their classes? T’would be one big school if that was the case… ![]()
Maggie - Eh, don’t worry about it. I was as freaked out as a fish in a new pond when I first started new activities, but later on I found out that things weren’t as bad as I imagined them to be. ![]()

I can’t wait for sixth form, but the worry is that I won’t be able to do what I want to. My main worry is a B in physics- the science exams were stupidly hard this year. And having to choose something different and going for a subject that I won’t enjoy half as much for the next two years is something I just don’t want to do. I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous in my life- five years of high school, and it all leads to this one, fateful day. Whoopie. ![]()
lizardgirl - Oh dear. Well, be optimistic! On the bright side, the classes you take may help you to gain a steady job in the future! ![]()
– Mitch
Oh I will Mitch! Senior year, I hear is supposed to be the most fun and easiest of all years.
Im in 11th Grade and im Home Schooled. I won’t go into the reasons why im being home schooled.
Home Schooled huh? I wish I could be home-schooled. However, at the same time, I am so ahppy going to a public schoool right now. ![]()

Cool! Another home-schooler! ![]()
