I know many of you hate the third, but I happen to like all three, I personally think that they’re the best things ever coming out of Dreamworks! and cannot wait for the sequels, what are your thoughts?
I enjoyed the first one, as well as the second…But they could’ve gone without the third. That was painful to watch, in my opinion. Definitely not the best Dreamworks has to offer.
I would agree with you in many ways. I did not hate shrek the third it was just a little less than a mediocre, but not bad. 1 1/4. Anyway I look forward to the shrek films because they are yes entertaining, sometimes funny and the song choices are pretty good. The third one had a couple laughs, {Like the pacifer tatto on rumpelstiltskin’s arm} I can’t really think of any more. It was entertaining like any movie except chicken little etc… and I just keep going on. If the puss in boots movie is true I think that will be pretty good, but I honestly don’t know about a fifth. I’ll just have to wait for further information from the fourth that I know that I will like.
One was great. Two was pushing it. Three has made me hate the franchise.
Phileas pretty much answered the question for me. I loved the first one and tolerated its sequel, but the third installment in the series was… quite repulsive, in my opinion. Once King Harold died I figured that there was nothing to look forward to throughout the rest of the third film. Heh.

I really enjoyed the first. The second and third were alright. Shrek 3 came out on my 18th birthday so I ended up going with a bunch of friends. The movie has some sentimental value even though the movie itself wasn’t all that great.
I pretty much agree with everyone else here. Shrek was fresh, because no one had done a genre parody in an animated film before, but once it got to Shrek 2, it got a little tiresome. It was still fun though, and its storyline was just as rich and complex as Shrek. By the time it got to Shrek the Turd though, it started to stink. The characters looked like they were designed by a team of animators who didn’t communicate with each other (read Keith Lango’s brilliant tirade on it, just Google Shrek 3+Keith Lango), the backdrops were dull and uninspired, and the script was predictable, drawn-out, and ultimately lame.
With Dreamworks planning several KFP sequels, they really need to learn to stop milking their franchises dry, or they’d be flogging a dead horse… or rather an annoying talking donkey.
I’m pretty much with everyone above, although now I don’t find the first Shrek that entertaining anymore. Too many pop culture references.
As for the sequels, I read this on Wikipedia as the rumored plot for Shrek Goes Fourth.
Shrek has become a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumplestiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
Now, this is of course, a tentaive plan, but if this is the plot for the 4th one, no I’m not really excited for it. To be frank this sounds like the plot of a Fairly OddParents TV movie, not a theatrical movie from a major animation studio. I’ll admit, the villian sounds alright, and it could be a decent movie, but given Dreamworks previous track record, it won’t.
Aha. The only Shrek sequel I would enjoy is Shrek the One Billionth- Shrek and Everyone Else Randomly Dies. It would be five minutes of gory, blood-soaked animation with all of the characters being killed one by one. And at the end, it would say, ‘THE END’, in nice, big, clear letters to make sure that everyone understands that it’s the last Shrek film. No miraculous returns, no coming back from the dead, nothing.
Okay, a little harsh, but whatever. I actually can’t remember if I saw the third Shrek in the cinemas, which shows just how much of an impact it had on me. I think I did see it with my friends…But yeah, I don’t really remember much aside from being annoyed by one of the new main characters- a young boy who was too anatomically perfect, perhaps? Something like that.
Shrek the Third had its moment, but Justin Timberlake KILLED the movie.
The way I see it? This is the reason why the first was so good, the second was close, and the third, well, not.
First film: script by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio
Second film: help from Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio
Third film: they are not involved.
That’s what happens when you change your screenwriters
Whoa, I never knew that they wrote them! I love them writing Pirates and National Treasure!
Dreamwork’s future Shrek release schedule:
The Fifth Shrek: Shrek gets in a relationship bump with Fiona after the 5th annual Far Far Away dance party.
Shrek VS. 6: Shrek finds a lost portal in the swamp which leads to 6 alternate dimensions.
Shrek’s Lucky 7: Shrek finds himself in California after a tornado hits the swamp, where he gambles with a villain named Lucky Larry the 7th to get back home.
Shrek and the Magic 8: When Donkey’s evil fate is sealed through a cursed magic 8 ball, Shrek must help his friend by tracing the evil magic to a new villain.
Shrek’s 9th Venture: 9 of Shrek’s enemies team up to form a villainous group, and they kidnap Fiona. Now Shrek must stop them.
Shrek 10 (We couldn’t think of a title!): Shrek and Fiona are now old. They tie 10 powerful balloons to their house and travel to South America to have a final adventure.
Phalkor, and woody:
They also wrote on of my favorite movies, The Road to El Dorado
I find your sense of humour ridiculously funny
But, seriously, if Dreamworks produces another sequel, I will personally fly over to Universal City and organize a protest! Mark my words!
NO MORE SHREK SEQUELS!!!
“Shrek the Third” sucked! Who’s with me?
Umm… hello! I looked Dreamworks Animation’s list of announced upcoming movies and currently five movies out of eight are either sequels or spin-offs!
How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Shrek Goes Fourth (2010) SEQUEL!
Master Mind (2010)
Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) SEQUEL!
Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer (2011) b SPIN-OFF![/b]
Crood Awakening (2011)
Madagascar 3 (2012) SEQUEL!
Shrek 5 (2013) SEQUEL!
We’ll probably see another Monsters vs. movie, since the first one was a huge success at box office.
Ha! What?! Shrek 5?
Time to buy that plane ticket then?
Me!
You didn’t know that? Shrek 4 and 5 were announced almost two years ago, just a few weeks after the successful opening week at box office of the third one.
First news about Kung Fu Panda sequel also came only few weeks after the premiere. I’m sure we’ll hear about Monsters vs. Aliens sequel relatively soon.
Well, no. Must have missed my feeds, and I didn’t hear anything about it.
Sure it must be disastrous. I don’t believe in sequels for monetary benefits.
6 movies in 2010 to 2011? Ridiculous.
