Shrek sequels

NO! :imp: Stop all of these Shrek sequels!!! They are getting worser by every sequel that DreamWorks has enough money to produce! This trailer was just plain stupid, not funny and, also, it’s kinda late to have a short teaser for a movie (especially a popular sequel like this one) at this time of year (but maybe that’s just me :unamused:) Hopefully, there won’t be any more Shrek sequels as it distinctively promotes this sequel as “The Final Chapter”. Then again, who’s to say they won’t sneak in another sequel, just so that they can make sure that this franchise is completely dead.

I’m just hoping for no more DreamWorks sequels after this (except for Kung Fu Panda, it’s an exception  ).

You know I’ll admit: back when Shrek first came out it was something interesting and unique after mostly seeing Pixar’s work (I remember everyone making a big deal out of how realistic the human characters looked and constantly quoting/singing Donkey’s lines), but looking at Dreamworks now I never expected them to get so carried away. It seemed like all their films after that plummeted down in quality as if they were just cashing in on the same formula of pop culture, toilet humor, and celebrity voices, which unfortunately became a bad influence on all other CGI studios except for Pixar. Shrek 2 was the only sequel that was still good or better than the original in my mind, but the series stopped being good with Shrek the Third. At least this one is going to be “The Final Chapter” since they were thinking about doing Shrek 5 which I think would have been overkill, but I would have preferred having it be a trilogy and ending the last film with this story.

:frowning: Oh man, another Shrek sequel! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the first one, I enjoyed the second especially with Puss in Boots. <3 The third one…well…not the best one but now with a fourth?! Dreamworks needs to seriously stop because at this rate, they are going to kill what made the franchise wonderful in the first place! :imp: After watching that trailer and seeing what happens to my favorite kitty, I seriously think that I am going to cry! :`-( Please stop Dreamworks before you kill dear Shrek!

Okay, usually I try not to deride a film before I actually see it, but this trailer is too good (or awful) to resist! :frowning:

I mean, it started off good, but then all the editing started to fall apart (I’d advise you don’t proceed further if you haven’t viewed the trailer, although there should be no spoilers if you already have).

  • Why didn’t they show Fiona?

  • I predicted Puss would be too lazy to catch a mouse way before they showed it.

  • And the ending is so haphazard, like they were almost too lazy to finish it off with a ‘Bang’. Where’s the last hilarious ‘zinger’ to leave the audience with an impression? The voice actor credits? “From the makers of” title cards? It almost looked like a TV spot.

This trailer is so unmemorable I’ve already forgotten half the plot five minutes after watching it. Compare this with the teaser with Up, which was short, direct and succinct.

The beginning - We remind you of our past successes over the years.

The middle - Introduce main character, without giving too much of the plot away.

The end - The ‘zinger.’ “Please let me in, Mr Fredricksen.” “No”. Laugh out loud, audience remembers that it’s a grandpa in a floating house with a kid stowaway, and that’s all they need to know.

Sorry for the rant, but this is the worst teaser I’ve seen that takes fans of the franchise for granted.

I never really saw the whole thing, but the only part I can remember being funny was Arthur saying “This is lame.” and Merlin slaps the back of his head and says “You’re lame!”.

I think the best part of that trailer was on the page.

“The Final Chapter”

Made my day.

I recently watched all the Shrek movies including the spin offs
(Shrek 3-D, Shrek the Halls) and I actually really enjoyed Shrek and Shrek 2, but the rest wasn’t all that good. They were okay, but not as good as the original two movies. I thought that the trailer for the 4th one was okay, I laughed at Puss in Boots. I hope it’s good because it’s the last movie, and you want it to finish well. Well, at least I do!

I enjoyed the first two Shrek movies. The third was okay, but it wasn’t that great I didn’t hate it though; I actually liked it gets pelted with tomatoes. But to be honest, I’m not very excited about the fourth.

Heh, me too.

And then I remembered that there’s still a Puss in Boots spinoff to come.

I love the first two. The third? Not so much. I felt the story and jokes were recycled and there were to many in the Getting Crap Past the Radar territory. (Yes, I’m a troper) The first two were more about making fun of Disney, but I found the last one ironic because of this. Here they were, trashing Disney, all while falling victim to one of Disney’s worst qualities: Sequelitis. (To those who do not speak TVTropes, it means sequels that are way worse then the originals)

Well, the fact that the latest Shrek movie is based on the idea that the original Shrek movie never happened shows just how desperate Dreamworks were for ideas. They’ve not make this latest one because they’ve got a good story to tell, they’ve made it for the money. Some of their previous films have had some redeeming features, but this one is so blatantly just for the money, it’s almost embarrassing.

You’re right, it’s very clear by now, extremely clear by now, that their heart is in the franchise and not the story itself. Very sad when that happens. Especially since the original Shrek was such a phenomenon and has a place in our generation. Now they’re kind of ruining it with their need to keep their most successful money maker alive. It’s not like we’ve never seen any other movie go through this before, but it is pretty annoying. I had faith in it at first but after watching the trailer I was really disappointed at the lack of passion that didn’t go into this movie.

I’ve actually had the original Shrek on DVD, and I remember the directors mentioning on an audio commentary that at one point the story was going to be about Shrek as a young ogre who dreams of being a famous knight or something. And this newest one is supposed to have a backstory about how he ended up living in the swamp, so maybe they borrowed a bit from their old idea.

I saw that as well, Flik-E, and so being a fan of the Musical as well [sue me :unamused: ] I liked that it was used in the musical. I really hope it’s part of the 4th film. It would really give it the emotion and depth that it seems to be missing so far, as far as we’ve seen…

I’m quite sceptical about all this.

I don’t like Shrek and its humour… too much fart jokes and supposedly ‘funny’ gross-out scenes! D: And I don’t see anything funny about pulling a sleeping possum out of a tree to eat.

The first one amused me at times. The second one too. :stuck_out_tongue: But the third one… meh, it’s a bit too much. Even though the ‘dream’ part with all those minishreks was funny. IMO.

Concerning the newer Puss-in-boots: what’s with this fad of making characters fat? D: As if DA was bad enough…

And they even have plush Shreks, yet no plush Russells… Shrek is not even remotely huggable! D:

I think as many of you people here, the first Shrek and the second was pretty awesome and really funny! But I still think the third one was funny… But it, well, gets kinda boring after a while… And i’m pretty tired of the Shrek movies now… And now there are two more comming… I’l probably watch them anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

They’re making a 5th  ^

Yepp… :stuck_out_tongue:

I knew 4 and 5 were announced in May 07 but I though they gave up on number 5 as I heard nothing from it in three years, meh I must of been delusioned hoping something wasn’t (Buzz Lightyear!), I loved the first two but reeaaally didn’t like the third, and the fourth looks like garbage. :stuck_out_tongue:
