I don’t know. PATF and WTP weren’t hits because they weren’t marketed properly and the blockbusters they were going up against. Which leads me to think that Disney should fire their marketing department and hire people who know how to market these films properly. Then again, I hope Disney isn’t looking at Tangled’s success and thinking that the audience likes CGI better then hand drawn animation. I’m actually surprised it surpassed 200M domestically since the marketing for that was awful.
NC said if they mixed the animation of FATG and story of Tangled. They could have a hit movie similer to BATB., I think that’s true.
The most likely possibility for Disney’s next 2D film is Bunny Mattinson’s Mickey Mouse feature, reportedly in development but not yet greenlighted. As for Disney marketing, MT Carney was recently succeeded by Ricky Strauss.
I never heard of him but I hope he helps Disney market their films better.
At first, I was a bit iffy about a Mickey Mouse full length movie. But after I saw that Disney made a Winnie the Pooh that is in the vein of the traditional Winnie the Poohs, I had more faith in this Mickey Mouse one.
That’s what the folks at Ultimate Disney are assuming. I wouldn’t go anywhere NEAR the thread about Clements and Musker’s newest project, because it’s degenerated into a nasty flaming war. Someone has been posting the comments made at The Animation Guild and assumed that Disney is dumping 2D animation again. Unfortunately that got out of hand and turned into a flaming war between a fan who was furious at this note and it basically derailed.
Do these guys know anymore than we do? No, and everything that’s posted on TAG should really be taken with a grain of salt; until Disney publicly comes out and says that 2D is dead at their studio, anything that suggests they may be headed in that direction should really not be taken seriously, or as fact.
I wonder if the upcoming Phineas and Herb movie (which is traditional/live action) sort of “counts” as their next 2D film for 2013. After all if they don’t have much of a gap between Wreck it Ralph and The Snow Queen (sorry, but I’ll never call it FROZEN. It’s like TANGLED all over again—a mostly fine movie wrecked by a terrible title change), then I guess that’ll have to do for the moment.
I don’t know. It’s kind of like The Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks where it’s live-action mixed together with CGI characters but it’ll be with hand drawn characters instead.
Like Roger Rabbit but not as adult.
Does anyone know the status of The King of Elves and Mort? I know Frozen/Snow Queen is back in production, but I’ve heard conflicting rumors about those two Disney movies. That either Mort and Elves have been cancelled, shelved until further notice or have started production? Any idea what’s going on?
I know King of the Elves is in production right now, but they don’t know when it’ll come out Not too sure about Mort.
I haven’t even heard of Mort. What is it?
I think it’s some sort of book based off Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.
From what I’ve heard, it’s about the Grim Reaper taking on a normal teenage boy as his apprentice, who then falls in love with Grim’s daughter.
The Grim Reaper. Disney is going to talk about, The Grim Reaper. Okay.
Don’t count on Disney doing anything among the lines on that. Especially with this sort of family friendly image is going through now.
It wouldn’t really surprise me if Disney made a movie about The Grim Reaper, life and death only being natural have always been themes in Disney movies. Remember a certain song called “The Circle of Life” in The Lion King? or the popular Jack Skellington in Nightmare Before Christmas?
I was referring to this new era at Disney since Eisner stepped down where it’s been family friendly. Seems like the Disney channel is most of the problem though.
I think it’s only Disney Channel, the Disney Movies don’t seemed changed. Besides, from the summaries I’ve seen, Mort would focus on the bright sides to death/the kinder side of the Grim Reaper and his bond with his teen daughter and new apprentice reaper.
True. But I’m waiting for Disney to make some risks, much like Pixar.
