Tangled

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ll never understand why people keep saying Tangled reminds them of a Barbie movie. Is it just because Rapunzel is blonde or something? I can understand if someone says they get a Dreamworks vibe from watching the trailer because I sort of had that feeling about it too, but how does it even look remotely like a barbie movie? Barbie movies are garbage compared to Disney animated films (I would know, I watched them because of my little cousin). The animation and the graphics are just so terrible, the voice acting stinks, and the dialogue is just so bad that it makes you want to either laugh, cry or throw up (or all three at the same time). I mean do people seriously think that Tangled will look like this? It really boggles my mind. There’s just NO WAY.

And besides, in the original (not the Disney ones) fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty the heroines weren’t described as having any specific hair color; that’s only how Disney interpreted those girls in their own adaptations of the stories. But in the original Rapunzel fairy tale, Rapunzel herself actually IS blonde.

No way, seriously? :open_mouth: How long do we exactly have to wait for the new trailer? I’m so excited for it I can hardly wait!!

And that article was pretty nice too. I love Mandy More.

& LOL woody I was going to post that piece just now but you beat me to it… again! xDDDD That concept art truly is beautiful though. Mary Blair would be proud indeed! <3

Danchii - I guess it’s the candy-coloured visuals and the whole feminine look to it. It just felt like a really polished Barbie flick to me, at least, when I was being cynical about it initially.

woody - Wow, that quote is incredibly meaningful. I hope Rapunzel will garner the same level of audience empathy for her years of solitude like Wall-E did. :frowning:

When i first saw the trailer i couldn´t believe that Disney was doing the movie. I though Dreamworks was.

That quote really is moving, Woody. I didn’t think of it that way. Thought it was more like “eh, all those years in a tower will give you such a crick in the neck!” But… I guess that would be seriously lonely.

I like the older Barbie movies(don’t lkill me, I was little!!!) like Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Princess/Pauper. The graphics stink, but they’re supposed to look like dolls, you know… :unamused:

Anyway, that art is sweet!! It screams Sleeping Beauty(a GREAT movie) to me.

Wow, that would be a sight to see. :open_mouth:

Anyway, I remember reading the book version of Barbie Rapunzel when I was six and thinking “Wow, this is really dumb.”

I won’t defend the Barbie films as no one will agree with me, but I like some of them(mostly the older ones, once a year.)

Aww Mandy Moore is such an amazing singer. I mean, have you heard “Only Hope” from A Walk to Remember? I’m very happy she is lending her voice to this film.

Thanks Disney Movies! It is great to see you posting again

And that concept art really is gorgous woody. I hope the film looks at Rapunzel’s isolation like this piece does.

I need to listen to some of Mandy’s newer stuff. I use to listen to her when she first came out. And when I think about songs like Candy and I Wanna Be With You, I can’t see how that voice could compare to the past female singers who’ve done Disney musicals. I guess she’s grown vocally. When I listened to her, it was over ten years ago.

I have wonderful news, everyone! I found this promo a few hours ago, and registered just to share it with those of you who haven’t seen it yet!

Here’s the link:

It made me squee like a 5 year-old.
I hope you all have the same experience!

I can understand why you like some of them, but to me, these movies just feel like somebody installed Maya on their computer and took a dump on it or something. Idk, but that’s just me. :S

Mandy has matured a lot since then, not just as an actor but as a singer too. I don’t know if anyone here has actually been following her music career like me, but she doesn’t sing those songs anymore. She’s really humble, dislikes attention and actually takes her work seriously unlike certain other artists. :\

:astonished: :astonished: :astonished: !!!

OMG THAT WAS SO AMAZING LIEK WHOA. First off, I’m SO FRIGGIN’ HAPPY we finally got some new footages instead of just concept art! Second of all, I LOVED how Mandy and Zac were talking about their roles on camera finally, it’s so nice to hear about their experiences at Disney. And third of all, some of the finished scenes are just so beautiful and just so… wow! This movie is going to be absolutely visually STUNNING. Seriously, the Nine Old Men would be so proud! A

My thoughts exactly!

I nearly CRIED when I saw the promo! I’ve been following this board for a while, and when I found the video, I NEEDED to share it with all of you. The boat/lantern scene in the beginning is absolutely STUNNING, Only 78 more days!!! :open_mouth:

Oooh… thanks for the link, TangledUpInDisney!

Things I noticed (Spoiler unless you’ve seen the video that TangledUpInDisney linked to):

  1. Why is Rapunzel unable to escape from her tower if she has such long hair? Has she thought of using it before, or did Flynn have to point that out to her?

  2. What is the tiara that Flynn has stolen, and could it have some significance to the plot (or is it just a MacGuffin)?

  3. Mother Gothel looks like an interesting villain- a foster parent with evil motives, something along the lines of Frollo.

  4. There’s a Viking mime among the character lineup (Keep your eyes peeled at 1:45)!

  5. The floating lanterns in Tangled:

remind me of the ones in Legend of the Guardians:

:stuck_out_tongue:

Wow! That video was absolutely amazing TangledUpInDisney! I really really liked hearing Mandy and Zach talk about the movie . And I kinda love your username…

I don’t know if you’ve heard only hope… youtube.com/watch?v=0ofeDruIwTM. It’s more of a musical song, and (what I think at least) a lot like what she’s doing today.
TDIT- that’s actually a few really interesting points! I’ve never really thought that much about it xD[/b]

SQUEE! I’m even more excited now, especially now that school is starting and I will have all my friends to fangirl with me like we did PATF!

I’m glad your friends are on your side, Rac. My friends are too blind and idiotic to find pleasure in animation :unamused:

Yeah, my friends rock. ^^ I saw Toy Story 3 with a few of them too. When all the other teenage girls are obsessing about the latest Twilight movie, we obsess about the latest Harry Potter/Disney/Pixar movie.

[spoil]And they think Naveen and Flynn are hot too. Except for Emma. She makes fun of us for it.[/spoil]

I love that preview so much, especially the part about the lanterns. This makes me so excited for the movie!

Same here! It makes me want to run to Disney Pictures, and beat the movie out of them. I want to see it so bad!

Funny, I’ve actually been wondering that too for a while… because if you think about it, since her hair is long and it also has [spoil]magical abilities[/spoil], shouldn’t it makes sense for her to have thought of escaping before? It sounds like a plot hole, but I have a feeling there might be something else that Disney doesn’t want us to know just yet. We’ll have to wait and see.

Yes I have heard Only Hope before, even though it isn’t my favorite song by her. The thing is Mandy actually does a combination of pop, rock and jazz music, sometimes just one or the other. She’s even done folk songs, especially with her most recent album. I actually like and perfer her music way better now as apposed to when she just started.

Ugh, that really sucks. Do they have an assumption that all Animated movies are too childish and they’re only just for kids? :\ Because I actually know a few people who are unfortunately like that. :S They need to learn how to be more open-minded.

Personally, I’m glad at least I have my childhood friend to fangirl with over this movie, since she likes animated films just as much as live-action ones too. We’ve arranged to go and see this movie together once it comes out in theaters. She’s also just as excited as I am!
