I can never resist spoilers. I was at Barnes and Nobels today, and there was a whole shelf of Rapunzel children books. Needless to say, I read them! My bad. But the artwork in the books were pretty, I can’t wait to see those scenes in animated form!
HOLY CRAP! Thanks for posting that music preview toystorynerd! I absolutely loved hearing I can see the light! It was so magical, Mandy’s voice is absolutely perfect I even started to tear up <3. Bravo Menken and Slater!
That song was SO beautiful! It sounded kinda “Whole New World”–esque. And man, Chuck can SING! God, I love guys who are funny and can sing. XD
Thank you so much toystorynerd! You get awesome points!
My god, I didn’t know these two can sing! That song was amazing, I’m so excited to see the scene in which it happens in context!
Tangled seems…unpromising.
Please elaborate.
I’m going to chip in here - I would love to be proven wrong, but I’m just not really warming up to this. And this is a year when I’m ready to like every animated film I see. (As opposed to my “Nothing is allowed to be better than “Up”!” attitude from last year.) It seems too snarky, it seems to be trying too hard to appeal to tweens and boys and anyone “too cool” for classic Disney. And heaven forbid any of those audience members find out that there might be a non-pop song or production number in it. The stuff I liked from Princess and the Frog, the period-New Orleans setting and corresponding music, and the unapologetic charm, I’m not feeling here. As I said, I’d love to be proven wrong and end up loving this, but we shall see…
Wow! I was trying so hard to avoid spoilers regarding this movie, but that clip of the song I Can See the Light really impressed me! (I gotta swear not to click any more, though… ) Looking foroward to the movie even more!

OH. MY. GOOOOOD. That was just so unbelievably beautiful! <3 I’m not gonna lie, I even teared up at the crescendo; it made me shiver, and it really felt like “A Whole New World” to me all over again. And the best part of it is that it really, REALLY feels like classic Disney!
Honestly, I’ve never been more happy and satisfied with a Disney song. Hell I just KNOW I’m going to love the rest of the soundtrack for this movie. I can hardly wait now!
Hahaha well Mandy is a singer. She’s always done albums and songs of her own, but I agree with you about Zach! I didn’t know he had such a beautiful singing voice, so I was definitely surprised. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/youwhaaa.gif” alt=“o_0;;” title="You
Whaaa…" /> [spoil]And the scene that song takes place in is when they’re in the boat, with the lanterns surrounding them. ;___; It looks so eiffin’ beautiful! /sniffs[/spoil]
And to anybody else whose having doubts, go to this link: waltdisneystudiosawards.com/ … /music.php and hear one of the songs from the movie. Just… oh my god, it’s so beautiful. I cried, seriously. ;____; I loved it so much that I even put it on my iPod.
Well, is it just me, or did the last couple of notes sound exactly like the ending of “Whole New World”?
Still a gorgeous song, though.
I made this post so everyone can see my signature!!!
Isn’t it cute??? lol
Sweetness TangledUpInDisney! I like how the type is all gold and sparkly!
Yeah, I had that vibe at the beginning too. If you read my earlier posts in this thread I was actually pretty skeptical as well.
I guess I was sort of won over by their second trailer when they replaced the godawful Pink number with an orchestral piece and dropped the ‘teen-speak’ taglines. From then, my interest has been growing with each image and video they release. Hopefully it’s a case of deceptive advertising (like what happened with HTTYD and Despicable Me) and that there’s some narrative ‘meat’ in there.
One thing I’m disappointed with Western animation studios is they always undersell their films in their marketing campaigns. It’s as if they have to include all the corny jokes and slapstick antics in the trailers so they can pull a ‘surprise!’ on the audience when they go see the actual film. And while some fans may want to be pleasantly surprised, the average moviegoer won’t give ‘benefits of the doubt’ or second chances. Watch any Studio Ghibli trailer and observe how unabashedly honest they are. They’re saying, “We made a powerful, emotional film that we think is as great as any live-action blockbuster, and we’re not ashamed to say you’ll love it.” Princess and the Frog and Pixar trailers have those moments, but then you see ‘smart-alecky’ TV spots like ‘New Gadgets’ and ‘Minions’ and you start having second thoughts.
I’m hoping Tangled is along the vein of ‘smarty-funny’ films like Emperor’s New Groove and Road to El Dorado. And like the two examples I’ve mentioned, hopefully it’s filled with the same warmth, pathos, and awe-inspiring moments.
GGrrrrrrrr DY I’m at school right5 now and i can’t hear the music!! I am soooo dying to hear it >.< And you know what i so found a freaking classic Sing-Along Disney VHS this weekend ^^ i found 2! they make me so happy TT I am so dying to hear this song you guys and when i do I’m going to write this long paragraph about how beautiful it is ^^ hehe
^^ Ya i did the same thing at Target YD the artwork is Really beautiful
Well, that’s not very nice!! You should give reasoning for your points. Who knows, it could be the best Disney movie since Lilo and Stitch(which wouldn’t be saying much)!!
It not “not very nice” if they’re just expressing their opinions, though I do agree they should elaborate.
I agree with the point about the trailers, though. Personally, I would love it if Disney stopped trying to be “snarky and funny” at all and would just do something like a Studio Ghibli film–moving and artistic. Don’t get me wrong, I love Emperors New Groove and Lilo and Stitch, but I would just adore it if Disney just did some great epic fantasy.
I couldn’t agree more. “She’s been grounded…for like ever!” I mean seriously? I still can’t get over that.
I really hope they don’t tell Tangled in this manner…
Romeo and Juliet as Flynn and Rapunzel
I don’t know whether this has been posted before or if you guys know of this, but there’s a great Tumblr blog called Hell Yeah Rapunzel (awesome name!) that aggregates all news and fanwork of the movie. Be sure to check out the Rapunzel Meet and Greet session videos, I’m surprised how the actors managed to stay in character and even ‘name-dropped’ Pascal, Maximus and Mother Gothel!
Check out some major fangirlism from Flynn’s secret admirer.
Meeting Rapunzel & Flynn
Some neat previews of the Art of book (I’m seriously considering getting this, I love the concept art I’ve seen for this film):
David Gilson artwork:
I wonder what Mother Gothel is doing to make Rapunzel upset in the second panel…
Glen Keane artwork:
I like how he draws Rapunzel’s legs!
And a preview of the epic love theme from an unexpected source:
