Wow. That was interesting…That Jib-Jab video was hilarious. I hope they’re wrong, and it’s more serious, but they can’t tell the “real” story no matter what.
There was a trailer for this film on my Beauty and the Beast blu ray, and it came off to me as a Dreamworks film =/ I may still go and see it, but probably won’t, I was never hugely interested anyway.
Wish they’d adapted Rapunzel in the same way they did say, Beauty and the Beast though =/ Just the name “Tangled” alone is cornier than words can describe.
I facepalmed HARD at the caption that said “She’s been grounded for like…ever!” teeny bobber speak, not a good sign.
See, I can agree with that. It does look like the Shrek/Hoodwinked “fairytale spoof” thing, and the name change was dumb(even though we’re past that…appearently.)
Name change? Wasn’t it always called Tangled? has known diddly squat about this film until that trailer
It was going to be Rapunzel, but they tried to man it up. Which is ironic, with that God-awful music in it.
Mm, that trailer didn’t come off to me as masculine in the slightest, it still looked like a film most people would perceive as a “girls film” so that seems utterly redundant.
I agree, and that “She’s been grounded for like… ever!” made me wince. But hey, I really think this is all just to get the seats filled. We’re gonna get a good movie, I’m pretty sure.
@thedriveintheatre: I absolutely love David Gilson’s work on Tangled. His artwork is always just so beautiful, and those pictures are absolutely stunning! I also like the baby Rapunzel and Pascal one that he did. It’s adorable beyond words! <3
I can agree with you with the corny caption and the lame title change. I was a bit put off by that too, and to be honest, I’m still having a hard time adjusting to the new name change (I’m sure I’ll get used to it as soon as the film comes out, but for now, it still kind of bothers me. I actually have a love/hate thing for the title myself, lol). But I can assure you that the only reason this is appearing like a Dreamworks film to a number of people is because they stuck a Pink song at the background in the first trailer, coupled with emphasize on slapstick comedy and the fact that it’s in CGI. Have you seen the recent trailers along with their newest online viral promos? They’re MUCH better than the first trailer we got, and the marketing has tremendously improved. There’s even been a lot of test screenings, and people who have been invited to see the film in it’s unfinished state have been saying nothing but positive things about it, while putting it in the same level as films like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Disney even put a up a page with a sample song from the film’s soundtrack, which, if you ask me, literally screams classical Disney.
And I could link people to some of the reviews that I’ve read, but I have to dig through my unorganized bookmarks for that. :X You can go to Tangled’s imdb page, and look for the threads that are linked to reviews from people on that board who have already seen the film. Just be careful of spoilers though.
EDIT; actually, never mind. Here’s some that I already found.
Which reminds me! We also got another new promo vid today, this time featuring the directors answering a second question asked by a fan: youtube.com/watch?v=ZmBPVIYaE7Q Enjoy!
Thanks for the Disney page, Danachii! I only let myself listen to part of the song, cause I don’t want to spoil it for myself But I loved what I heard
Awesome, Danachii! Did I just see Nathan point to Leonardo DiCaprio at 1:17? Anyway, like a video commenter observed, I thought Flynn looked like a hybrid of the two directors (He’s got Bryon’s hair and Nathan’s goatee)!
I’m truly disappointed they went the ‘teenybopper’ way for the teasers. As they say, first impressions always count, and it’s gonna be difficult to change fickle moviegoers’ opinions once they make a snap judgement in the cinemas. I mean, the average viewer doesn’t give second chances and ‘follow up’ on the website or subsequent trailers to see if things improve, so Disney bungled up their campaign in that aspect. Having said that, though, they seem to be revealing a movie which appears better than it initially sounds. Could this be the dark horse of animation this year? Maximus would think so.
P.S. How did you get rounded corners for your sig, Danachii?
Yeah, most people when I mention this movie, only say “It looks like a Dreamworks film.” Damn you, Disney marketing department! Why have thou forsaken me!?
Same for me! It’s really getting annoying, cause my one friend won’t even give it a chance cause like you said “It looks too Dreamworks-y.”
For those that are curious, this is the trailer I saw on my blu ray. youtube.com/watch?v=wCxuxrLNrsw
That may be true to some extend, but I also noticed that there’s quite A LOT of average people and movie goers both online and offline who aren’t particularly bothered by the teenybopper caption, the pop song or the way it’s marketed. They seem pretty enthusiastic about the film. Not everyone is put off by the trailer like most old-school Disney fans are.
And I used a template to get that rounded edge look.
Yeah, I’ve also seen a few people who are unwilling to give this movie a chance just because of that. shrugs I don’t really care. It’s their loss, I guess. :\ They’re not forced to watch it if they don’t want to. But they’ll be missing out on a great movie, that’s for sure.
Yup, that’s the godawful one. Might I recommend you check out the newer trailers and clips that Danachii posted in her second-last post?
Yup, but it is these old-school Disney fans and people who jump to conclusions who might not be so forgiving. Fortunately for Disney, there are people like the ones you have mentioned (as well as the fans here) who give them the benefit of the doubt and tune in for subsequent trailers, but there are some who have been turned off or alienated by that terrible first teaser.
I didn’t get what you meant until I right-clicked and opened your image in a new tab. That’s very clever!
Hey now, no jumping to conclusions. For all we know, the cynics could be missing out on the worst movie of the year, though judging from the somewhat favourable footage we’ve been seeing, it’s highly unlikely. So far, that title would have to go to S*x and the City 2, IMO.
First up - TangledUpinDisney - LOVE the sig
Next - again, appreciate the comments regarding the film and the marketing. In regards to the title, I’ll share this interviewwith Bryon Howard and Nathan Greno that specifically addresses the name change. Again, we think it better reflects the story, as it’s not necessarily a straight-up re-telling of Rapunzel…if we called it Rapunzel…and it wasn’t the fairy tale you remembered reading, would you critical that we misled you with that title instead? In regards to the trailer, we try to appeal to a wide audience - young, old, boys, girls, parents, kids - because our movies are meant for everyone Lastly, I’m glad to read that you DO enjoy the latest trailers and clips and the first song from the soundtrack.
I also wanted to be sure that for anyone in the USA (I’m sorry, international folks, it’s not available overseas yet) we are having 3D Advanced Screenings for the movie across the country. You can RSVP to one of the locations on our website:

If you’re able to make it…let me know what you think!
^ Yeah, I think that was a good idea. We may not love the trailer, but it may appeal more to the audience Disney is striving for. Oh, well.
I mean, would Toy Story 3 have done so well if the promos accurately showed the tone of the movie, with two minutes of bawling 20-year-olds? I don’t think so. That did bother me, though, that they hyped Spanish Buzz so much and he was only Spanish for, like, fifteen minutes. But hey, whatever sells tickets.
Even if I don’t always like them, I respect the choices Disney Marketing makes. They know their stuff.
After the box office disappointment that was Princess and the Frog (which used more traditional 90’s-style marketing), I think they wanted to push Tangled in a more modern “hip” direction, if you will, probably why you’re drawing comparisons with Dreamworks. Man, I still remember when that was the norm of movies. I guess Shrek was such a big hit in part because of how it broke away from that…
I was looking at all the toys at Wal-Mart and could not contain myself any longer. I turned to all the kids in the toy aisle and said: “DO YOU KNOW HOW AMAZING THIS MOVIE LOOKS?! I’M SO EXCITED!!!”
Some of them laughed, some of them smiled, and some stared in horror. But you know what? I was happy I got it off my chest. Hopefully that will pull in some audience members in my area…
19 days (not including today)!!! Can you believe it! YAYYYYY!

It should be the first one to play. If not, look for “Vignette: Grounded for Life”
Ya to me Princess and the Frog didnt get a lot as much hype as it diserved. I Only remember like two trailers for it though and they werent very elaborate. Though Princess and the Frog was Way more secretive about what was in the movie _ i hardly knew anything about it but with Tangled i feel like i practicly know everything aready ^^‘’ its not really a bad thing though cause i know i’m going to love it
