I know this is a bit early but I was just curious what some people are doing for Thanksgiving, if they know already.
I’m probably going to have a dinner at home with my immediate family, but we’ll be eating ham and not turkey. This is because we now have a pet turkey that we raised, who allows us to hug and kiss him. So … it makes us sick to thinking of eating a turkey that may very well be a cousin of his.
I think we’re staying home this year (the usual). It’s part of our tradition to see a movie on this holiday - I suggested Bee Movie, but due to mostly poor reviews, I don’t know what we’ll do.
I will be going to The Copper Dock , which is a very nice restaurant here in Wisconsin. My great uncle and aunt always come with us. They’ve got a really good buffet on Thanksgiving, and it’s become sort of a tradition of ours. This will be our fourth year I believe. My great uncle actually turned 88 on November 1st, so I guess this counts as a late birthday present.
Gasduude - Hey, take it from a guy who knows for a fact. Reviews don’t mean anything. If you want to see it , then see it. It’s your opinion that matters, not the reviews. [/i]
My plans are still up in the air. I might go to North Carolina or I might just stay in FL. My favorite artist is goign to be live in Concert that Saturday in Tampa, so I might go to that.
Also I want to see if I can find a 80GB iPod Video for cheap on Black Friday.
Yes, your completely right Bill. One person’s opinion, no matter how well read, doesn’t make another’s. I think we’ll end up seeing it anyway - not much else out there.
Black Friday: I think I’m going to buy myself a digital camera with some money I have saved up. 'Bout time.
I loooove Thanksgiving too! We are staying home this year and my mother’s making the dinner (with me assisting, i assume) with just my parents and brother. Normally my aunt & uncle, grandma, and cousins would be coming but they are having dinner at my cousin’s other grandparents house (as in, the ones I’m not related to) because they’re moving and want to have Thanksgiving there for the last time.
As for what usually goes on, I actually do go to church with my mom that morning. I dont have to, but I like to. I enjoy holiday services. Then once I come back I watch the Macy’s parade. After that the football goes on and stays on till kingdom come. To my brother it’s not Thanksgiving, it’s Dallas Cowboys Day. So he rushes through dinner so he can go and watch the game, lol! We dont usually have turkey either. Why? because my family prefers chicken. I honestly dont taste a difference and like em both. A few times though, we’ve had turkey and chicken, which has been great. Plus my mom makes 2 pumpkin pies (i’ve tried to get her to make more pies, since I loooove pumpkin pie, but that hasnt worked, lol!).
As for the weekend, we always end up doing something. This year we’re going down to Wheeling, West Virginia to see the Xmas lights and see what has changed since the last time we were there. And also since I work retail, that means working! Luckily my boss was nice and gave me Friday off, but I have to be there on Saturday and Sunday.
Thanksgiving Day is my favorite holiday, although the general excitement has rather wittled down over the years after my mom exclaimed that she was through with cooking and cleaning on every occasion…
Nowadays, the only relative that comes to our doors is one of my dad’s sisters…and a close friend or two. Other than that, the event itself is…pretty uneventful, ironically. I used to look forward to the holiday – I got to play around with my favorite cousins and acquaintances, run around like a dog throughout the house, eat all I wanted, and meet and greet two thousand relatives. (Seriously, we used to have close to thirty or forty people in the residence at once time. T’was a mad house, I tell ya’…)
These days, all we do is talk, eat, and watch a movie or two. If we’re lucky, we’ll get to go out to see a film in the theater. It sucks being an adult… (snigger)
As weird as it may sound, figure what the hey heh.
Me and my cast are going to do a reenactment of the first thanksgiving, involving the Pilgrims and Indians. Research a bit on for it, hard to find some of the facts.
Heh…last year hahah…ahh…this one will be better
My birthday is on Thanksgiving! I’ll be joining my family for dinner, as usual. Same old stuff, naturally. I’ll get to bed early so I’ll be ready for Black Friday.
