rachel- unfortunately, i’II have to agree
it’s not the best ive seen…
but dont judge a book by it’s cover!
I can’t wait! Actually, I think the cover is wonderful.
First of all, thank you for the news, luxo jr./bawpcwpn, and you, PV, for displaying the cover of the book!
Secondly, my opinion is rather two-sided concerning the front cover for the “Art of WALL-E”. Although the cropping of the image itself is a little unusual, I will admit that I favor the almost “marshmellow-y” taste/texture of the title character, WALL-E, in the picture. It is tender and sentimental, which is something I find intriguing.
Other than my afore-mentioned complaint (seemingly indecent cropping), this particular art book cover suits my liking!.
– Mitch
It’s a pretty captivating front cover- Wall-E’s eyes have that immediate effect, in any artstic form- but yeah, I have to agree that the cropping and layout could be a little better. Thanks for showing us the picture, PV!
Bill- Well, I only own The Art of Monsters, Inc. I just can’t afford to buy the whole set, and they do use up a lot of space.
I was thinking of the cover and how Mitch dubbed the style it’s been drawn in as, “marshmellow-y”, well maybe they’re emphasizing that WALL-E, an otherwise cold, hard and life-less robot is capable of being “soft”, cute, warm and “cuddly”, so the image not only shows depth and emotion to me, but the other side of human’s perception about machines. By illustrating him like that, the eyes are just topping on the cake if you analyze the image deeply.
BTW- I’m still not a big fan of the cover, but I’m definately getting used to it, and most likely, I’ll purchase it.
I think we all may be looking too deep into this. It’s pastel, a common medium for conceptual artists. Especially that of Ralph Eggleston, the PD for WALL•E. He was also the PD for Nemo, you may recall.
Oh, I know, only the pastel look isn’t working too great for WALL-E, so I just thought up a quick theory to see what everyone thinks. It worked perfectly in Nemo though.
I love the pastel look for the cover. It was just a bit of difference from me being used to seeing WALL-E looking more… technical, I guess. But the cover is growing on me every day.
Isn’t WALL•E cute? How can you not love that cover?
I missed you, JV! That is an awesome picture!
The alternate cover actually grew on me to the point where I loved it, but this new one says a lot about the character and personality of WALL●E, which is cool.
WALL•E’s pretty sweet, isn’t he? ;.-)
Aww, that’s such a sweet picture! I love this front cover, and how nervous Wall-E looks in it.
I kinda delayed my response to the new cover of The Art of WALL-E, but anywyas, here’s what I have to say: I was getting used to the old one, but I LOVE this one. It shows WALL-E with more character and it’s more colorful. It’s just like I imagined him acting toward EVE. WALL-E is such a sweet character. Well anywyas, I should post my response here before I do in Upcoming Pixar because it makes me doubt re-posting what I said.
I like the new cover much better, too.
I’m going to have to sstay away from the WALL•E (Alt-0-1-4-9 yipee!) threads, because I don’t want to spoil my movie theatre expericne.
I’d have bought it by now but I’m holding back a bit…the book’s coming out in April, right? I dunno, it’s just wierd. Uhhhh, someone buy it first!
Man, I’m tempted to grab a copy of this. I fear the spoilers though. Maybe I’ll get it after I see the movie. It’ll take me that long to get the cash anyway. XD Unless I get some money for my birthday. Maybe…
THE COVER IS SO EPICLY ADORABLE. As if I needed more reason to love those two. The cuteness just never ends, does it? I gotta go find a bigger pic of it to make some icons with. Back to the internet!
I’ve read through it twice and still have about the same grasp of the plot elements as I did from watching the trailers and reading online about Wall-E. It may spoil single scenes, but nothing of the entire story. And not every element in the book may be in the movie either. There were a few things in the Art of Ratatouille that did not make the final cut of the movie.
One of these days I’mma have to take the time and ‘signaturize’ some of the pics from the book though
Great price on Amazon too. $26 and free super saver S&H. That goes for all the ‘Art of’ books they have in stock.
