I can’t believe it was about a year and 1/3 ago that I joined this forum. Still, I’ve noticed that the community has changed drastically. There are a few names off the top of my head I can always remember who they are; TSS, lizardgirl, Al-Bob, rachelcakes, Tonyloaf, Dash, and so forth. There are plenty lost (A113, Fairly Odd New Yorker, WBoon, etc.) However, I see these days that most of the comments, unlike when I first came where I knew a lot of the names, are left by people I do not recognize. It’s kinda sad, actually. Not that we have a growing community, but that we are losing so much of our old one.
This was my first forum, having joined when I just turned twelve (I’m thirteen now! Don’t worry!) and I fell in love with it immediately. I loved the people here, talking about my favorite things, and I love the friendly nature of the rules and restrictions. I find it really sad when the names I get so used too, active, loyal members, fizzle out.
For those who have been here from the beginning, what do you think? I know this may be a bit of a vague topic, but how do you feel about the ever changing community of this forum?
(PS. This is partially a guilt-topic from me going inactive on a roleplay forum of mine that I recently visited off-account.)
I do know what you mean, Rac_Rules. I joined, I think, about a month after the forums were created and of course it’s changed a lot since then. Of course it grew a lot at first and as you said, there are a lot of members who are still the forum regulars and who still haven’t left, but life does go on. If I’m honest, I doubt I’ll be here for any longer than another year, 'till next September because there just isn’t enough time in the day to go on here regularly and do everything else that needs to be done.
Plus we still do get new members that make themselves very well known to the other members on the forums (ffdude1906 is a good example). I know the boards are a bit slow right now, but activity too will go up and down depending on what’s happening in people’s lives and what time of year it is.
It’s a difficult one. It’s always sad when loved members leave or do not post as often, but it’s nice when we get new and enthusiastic members, and that cycle will probably continue until, well, I dunno! Until the boards shut down, I guess (though I hope that never happens. )
Well, I’ll be supah-sad if the forum closing in. (
lizardgirl, maybe it is because Pixar’s feature movie has been released. It’s like a yoyo though. More discussions and new members when the feature movie just around the corner.
And yeah, I tried to leave PP once. Because I couldn’t stand the business (I mean, busy-ness) of my own life, so I decided to leave PP. But many of the members object. The one that I remember the most is Hannahmation and Bryko614 (via Twitter).
But, yeah, I won’t leave PP ever. In. My. Life.
The community here is so warm and friendly. I never feel this accepted in my life. (I rejected by most people among my age just because I’m a Pixar freak! Huh, whatever. Thank God some of my friends can accept me as a friend).
Addition to that, PP members are so supportive. I almost giving up with my dream to be an animator at Pixar. But my family, and yes, all PP users give me all the support that I needed.
lizardgirl and I have been here since the begining and are probably one of the original members that are still active. We have seen a lot of people come, go, and stay.
I know that with my current schedule right now, and with all of the open times, I should be able to log on and check PP for the next year or so. I don’t know what will happen when I’m done in my Junior College years, but hopefully, I don’t sway away from you guys.
I have only been on here since last November, but I have noticed lots of new members, and lots of ones that don’t come on here anymore. I won’t be leaving this forum for a long time! That is, if I ever have to leave! For I don’t want to leave this forum! Everyone here is so nice and friendly! I’ve been on lots of forums where I know no one, or it’s not all friendly. This may be the nicest forum site out there! XD
The manner of this forum makes me want to make my own Cars forum! The only other one out there is all OC’s and less talk about the actual movie! And there’s a lot of mature material on there. I don’t go on there often. Sure this forum isn’t all about Cars, but it’s not as friendly as this one. To me, friendliness is much better! I’d make the Cars forum now, but my only problem is that I don’t know how to make my own website like this!
Yes, its a shame how some forums are so unfriendly. I went to a Kingdom Hearts roleplay forum for a while, but they weren’t very nice to newbies so I stopped visiting.
I haven’t been here for that long, but I think the community has shifted. I remember some older members such as Fairly Odd New Yorker and A113. Nowadays I see a lot more new members posting compared to, say, a year or so ago. I’m fine with it though, as many new members like ffdude1906 are making a big impression on the forum.
No matter what, this is probably the nicest Internet community I’ve ever seen, so I’ll be staying here for a long time to come.
I’m still really new (I joined in April) but had been observing Pixar Planet way before I joined. I made it the first Internet community I joined because it was so friendly and also because it’s cool that there are so many Pixar fans! I haven’t been able to post as much lately, but I have no plans of leaving this wonderful place.
Wow, thanks Bryko, that’s really nice of you to say! I love it here, it’s an amazing community as you said, and I’ve made a lot of great friends over the last 3 months. It’s great that such an amazing company can draw us together like it has, and I’m glad to have made an impression on someone here!
As for changing, I remember it feeling a bit different when I first joined, but I think it’s because I know you guys a lot better now. I was more nervous about posting, and I wasn’t as familiar with Pixar as I am now. now I just come in here, and chat it up about whatever, and it’s great! Talking to some of you on twitter, dA, and skype has been great as well, and I’m really hoping to meet some of you in person at some point down the line. I’ve never been drawn into a community like I have here, it’s a great experience.
wannabechef91: Most of the posts consist of members having love affairs with each other or cracking some weird inside joke. xD But this all has nothing to do with this topic, so yeah.[/b]
Pfft, that’s so stupid. Even TwilightSucks (which, admittedly, I am an active member of ) has a generally nice community (except towards rabid Twihards, of course) and that’s a hate site. An Up site that doesn’t even talk about Up? That’s ridiculous.
How do forums expect to get members when they scare all the new ones away?
I wil never know. The Cars forum is filled with cars, well, doing mature things. Let’s just keep it at that. Young ones belong to this site! I mean, the Cars forum isn’t even about Lightning, Doc, Mater, and the rest of the gang! It’s more about made-up cars! I need to make a family friendly forum for Cars. One that’s about the movie even! But how would I do that without a basic knowledge on how to create a forum site!
When I first signed up here this forum was a lot more active, I think. Or maybe it’s because I was a lot more active two years ago than I am now… Some members have come and gone, others are still around, and new people have signed up, too. It’s just the cycle of the forums, any forum. I guess it’s quality of members, rather than quantity that counts and I’m not so fussed about members not being as active (like I’m one to talk anyway!) because I’ve still got a small group of close chums to talk to.
For me the thing that has brought members closer would be the Fan Commentaries and the Pixar Planet Movie Night. Typing through text and on the forum is one thing, but it wasn’t until I participated in my first practice that I was like “Hey, these people are just as crazy about Pixar as me, and they’re actually real!”, not to mention chatting with everyone in real time, with our voices, is just too fun.
Even though I may need to focus on other areas of my life soon, away from the computer, I think I’d still make time to keep in touch with certain people, as well as keep a general eye on things going on in the forums. Probably the time that I leave for good is when I either take up full-time study or when I have kids.
rachel yeah, I was part of a really small forum about Nintendo and it ended up being like 8 or 9 people talking to eachother about, well, practically anything. It took like a year and a half from conception to abandonment, and we didn’t ever really get a growing community, but it was fun while it lasted. This place is a lot different though. There’s a lot more interest in the people that visits daily or weekly than there was at the other forum I visited. The people here are much more sociable about what this forum is all about, and that’s what holds it together so well. I’ve only been here 3 months and I can already tell that this place’s fanbase is far from collapsing. It’s a good thing too, I’d hate to see so many people just disappear.
As for you planning on your permanent leave, it’ll be a shame when the time comes, but I understand that there are more important things in life than just chatting up a storm on the internet all the time (just not for me right now, haha!) and certain things take priority. Hopefully you’ll still be here for quite some time.
I think I joined this forum around July of last year, took a break when school started, and came back when Up was about to be released. Back then, the forum was very friendly, sociable, and had alot of interesting people to talk to, like Wall-E or TSS. It’s still like that right now to me, it’s just that there’s more interesting folk to talk with, Dragon before turned all pessimistic, ffdude, and thedriveintheatre for example. The only thing that’s different is the Pixar Movie Night (which I’m hoping to make my Skype work so I can join in), I don’t think there’s really been an activity that interactive except the commentaries.
The only forum that rivals this one in terms of friendliness in my opinion is this dream interpretation forum I visit weekly. But then again, most of them are shrinks and counselors at whatnot, I think it’s their job to be friendly and comforting. And all the others forums I’ve ever been on are either full of emoey teenagers that feelt the need to cry about how much they hate their life or college boys who spend like twenty hours playing Warcraft and yelling how great Canada is because “we have free healthcare losahs!”
I’m really glad I could bring everyone together for the Movie Nights, I really hope it’s helped the place out. As for the commentaries, I think I’m missing out! Me, Cap, and Duchess are putting together a practice though, so I’ll be in soon! Hopefully we can get some more ideas developed about how to get this place more involved, that’d be great. I’ll be happy to help if anyone has ideas!
