The Dark Droid Trailer 2 [Reupload]

Mitch - Puh-ha!! Thank you, the pleasure’s all mine! Doesn’t Hal make a loyal butler? Not to mention that he knows Wall-E and has been friends with him all his life, just like Alfred!

TSS - Well, Wall-E is a dark action movie, although it’s more inclined more to romance and comedy. And AUTO is the main antagonist, so it’s natural he gets to be the Joker. As always, thank you for your Super-Incredible comments!

C-3PO - I saw the Toy Story one a while ago. But I was more following the original DK trailer. I posted mine as a video response, though. I must admit that I took the title from someone else (but I asked his permission). Just look up ZingTea, he did some great mashes with Wall-E and The Dark Knight too! Thanks for the compliments, I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my work, which is probably why I like to procrastinate or take really long to do something. It works both ways.

rachelcakes1985 - I noticed the difference between AUTO and Joker too, one advocates control, the other chaos. But since he’s the only enemy in the film (besides GO-4 and the Steward Bots), he was what I went for. The reason why I have so many black screens is because I followed the original trailer to the letter. Some people follow only the audio track, synching footage to soundtrack without regards to the original trailer’s fade-outs, cross-dissolves or other transitions. Me, I try to replicate the trailer exactly, same transitions, assigning corresponding characters, even trying to get the mash-up name into the title card if possible. I sometimes consider just cutting loose, as it’s sometimes too rigid and frustrating (like there’s not a long enough shot of an explosion that’s the same as the hospital explosion after the line “Like Me”, so I had to do many cuts of Eve’s explosions) and I may do it in the future, but for the moment, I stick to the original like peanut butter on toast. Thanks for the suggestions though. Glad you like the Wall-E-eyes-symbol-logo.

haha!! (in evil Joker fashion) loved it!!
I haven’t even seen Dark Knight, but this makes me want to see it even more!!
I was sad it was over so soon! I was a little disheartened that the trailer focused on the Joker(Auto) so much instead of Batman(WALL-E). Maybe u should try evenly dispersing the audiences’ attention. Oh, quick q, is Trailer 2 a continuation or a separate trailer entirely?
Great job!

thedriveintheatre- I never thought you could make Auto as the Joker work, but you did, and very well at that! Although he doesn’t have a mouth, it still seemed as though he was talking, which is an effect that’s so difficult to pull off. Good timing with the music and the action, too. I’m looking forward to your next trailer!

thedriveintheatre - Even though AUTO is simply obeying his directive, like lizardgirl said, he does work as The Joker in your fan-trailer, and even in WALL•E he comes across as a bit crazy, and even more crazy in your video. So it works really well. I understand why you have the black screens now, and that makes sense. I hadn’t seen The Dark Knight trailer before watching your video, so that’s why I didn’t make the connection. But if you were following that trailer, then I understand now. I think it’s great that you follow the trailers to a T. Now that’s dedication!

lolwut. You’re funny. 8D

wallerat -

Although this is suppose to be the proper trailer, it’s more like a teaser. Most studios release a teaser, then a brief trailer, then the final trailer that explains everything. It’s becoming standard practice compared to older films which only had one theatrical trailer. Anyway, this one is not suppose to reveal much, it’s quite short, and they show only brief flashes of the footage. Don’t worry, the 2nd (and final theatrical) DK trailer will be longer and have more scenes to play with.

I’ll take note of your suggestion of even character screentime distribution, but as I follow the trailer closely, I follow their version of character exposure, and they featured the Joker pretty heavily. Trailer 2 is the final major theatrical version, THIS one. Some people call it the 3rd trailer, but I think of it as Teaser (bat logo with voiceovers), Trailer 1 (the one I’ve just completed) and Trailer 2 (the one I’m about to start). Thanks for your as always, regular comments!

lizardgirl -

Yeah, I get that a lot. :stuck_out_tongue: Now that I think about it, Auto doesn’t have a mouth! Neither of the robots in Wall-E do! Gee, this is weird. But anyway, thanks!
Trailer 2 is coming soon!

rachelcakes1985 - Well, the only similarity between the two villains is that they never compromise. Each is dedicated to their sole purpose, be it obedience or obliteration. Oh, and they’re both pretty manipulative.

I’d suggest you watch the original trailer before the mash-up. In the future, I’d maybe post a side-by-side comparison video, something I’ve seen other editors do. This is a shout-out, if anyone knows how to achieve this effect (a side-by-side comparison of two videos running simultaneously) please post your answer in this thread or PM me! It looks like THIS. I really want to learn out how to do this!

As far as I’m aware, with Windows Movie Maker being a basic editing program, it doesn’t offer the feature of side-by-side video, so you’d probably have to somehow obtain another editing program. I used Video Edit Magic and it did have that feature, but it wasn’t the most user-friendly of programs, so I’ve switched to WMM instead. Even though it is basic, it’s easy to use, which is why I like it.

Adobe Premiere Elements can do this, and it’s not so hard–What you do is load your two source videos into the program (i.e. what you want side-by-side). The video you want as the “background” video, which doesn’t really mean much for the s-b-s example as you will resize it, load first into the sceneline, and this appears in the preview area. Then, select the second video, shift drag it onto your “background” video. From there, you can resize both clips so that they fit your pixel area, then render, and enjoy.

FWIW, I’ve been working with Premiere Elements 7 for the past month and while I enjoy the program, it’s not so stable on my system at times. (Maybe a RAM upgrade will help?). Anyway, other users have complained of inopportune crashes as well, but it’s not been so bad in my experience that I would quit using the program. Often working immediately after a fresh restart or boot helped. Since you already have some video editing experience, the learning curve probably won’t be steep for you at all–just a matter of getting familiar with the interface and where all the functions are. I found it reasonably intuitive and overall am glad I invested in it, and I hope its performance improves as I upgrade my system.

Thanks rachelcakes1985 and docindigo76!

Rachel - Yeah, I realised WMM probably wouldn’t have that feature too. Hm… there’s a free 30-Day trial version of Video Edit Magic. Maybe I’d give that a go to see if it works out.

docindigo76 - I was aware of Adobe Premiere Elements as one of the more profesisonal video-editing softwares. From the way you describe it, I think I can get the gist of it. Of course, there’s nothing like trying it for myself. Adobe also offers a trial run too, but they annoyingly ask me to create an account with them. Thanks for the warning about the instability and all that, makes me aware of any shortcomings.

In the meantime, just an update. I’ve reached the halfway point of Trailer 2 of The Dark Knight after many sessions squeezed in between my free time. Expect completion by this Sunday, though of course, it comes with the standard disclaimer of no guarantees. I have plans to make a new sig and YT wallpaper too, time permitting.

Well, it looks like my Dark Droid Trailer project has been put on hold for the moment, due to a computer disaster involving my Mac as I explained in the “just a horrible day” thread started by little_chef. Release date’s gonna be pushed back at least one week, so sorry for the delay! :frowning:

Sorry to hear about your computer woes, thedriveintheatre. They’re great and everything, but sometimes they’re a real pain in the bum, aren’t they? I hope you get it fixed soon so we can see the next version of The Dark Droid trailer, but there’s no rush and I’ll be patient.

Computer problems suck, really. But I hope that you get it fixed soon. Can’t wait to see trailer number 2.

Thanks for your kind consolations, Rachel and TSS!

Well, I got my Mac back finally after one week and two days! Hurray! Unfortunately, the Dude Up There threw another monkey wrench into my plans.

After deleting my 2008 Summer Movies music video, and two of Mater’s Tall Tales (a series of shorts from 2006’s animated racing film, Cars), Youtube delivered the killing blow and suspended my account! Now I’m experiencing the same anger and frustration of BDD and other fan creator’s accounts who I’ve seen been wiped out indiscriminately!

To the legal pencil-necks at YT or whichever studios that are doing this, you’re making a big mistake. Deleting the channels of those who are giving you twits free advertising is akin to shooting yourself in the foot. Not only do you lose the free marketing (we stand to gain no monetary benefits whatsoever, and we never claimed we created the content, you numbskulls!) we provide for you, but you’re also alienating your target market (the FANS) who will migrate to some other video hosting site to post their fan edits there. This is ridiculous. :imp:

I’ve devised a plan inspired by thatguywiththeglasses’ strategy (unfortunately he has gone to greener pastures) when his account kept getting suspended, for any Subscribers who are still reluctant to leave YT and want to view my channel. It involves creating a separate account for each video and favouriting them under one main account. It’s a major hassle having to create a new account for every I upload from now on, not to mention obtaining another e-mail account for each one (since YT blacklists the E-mail accounts of copyright infringers). But I’m too tired and angry to be concerned about conserving YT’s bandwidth, and this will make it difficult for the bots, cos’ if they kill one account, at least I don’t have to upload all my videos over again. Kind of like Hydra, the many-headed monster in Hercules.

So here’s thedriveintheater (note the different spelling), back from the dead! Have a look under Favourites, and you’ll find all my previous videos in their separate accounts to see what I mean. It’s gonna take a few days to reupload all my lost vids and recruit my subscribers all over again, so to my fans, spread the word that this is the new account, and should it get suspended again, rest assured the new name will be some variation on “The Drive-In Theatre”.

I’m also planning to find another video hosting site that is more forgiving. I can only hope that the blind bigwigs they got up there see their error of their ways.

That actually is quite a smart way of getting around things… The two that are up now, WALL•E: You Know My Name, and The Dark Droid: Trailer 1, are two of my favorites, so I am glad that those ones are still there. The song from Casino Royale - You Know My Name, I can listen to any time I want to for free off of the music video on Yahoo! anyway, so I don’t see why there is an objection to it being on another site, and The Dark Knight trailer sounds, are not the kind of thing that you buy anyway, so they are not loosing any money off of you using them. On the contrary, like you have already said, it is free advertising. Due to copyright laws though YouTube could be very changed in the future… Very changed indeed…

  • C-3PO

I looked up “youtube - walle you know my name” on Google the other day (since your vid is the inspiration for the music video I’m doing, I like to watch it to give me more ideas), and when I clicked on “thedriveintheatre89’s” channel, I was absolutely shocked to see “This account has been suspended.” :open_mouth: But I am so happy you worked your way around it! Never give up, even if they suspend your new one one of these days. You just keep on biting back!

It makes me so nervous to start a YT account now. :frowning: I’m afraid of getting my videos muted or deleted if they include “copywrighted” material - or the worst of all, having my account suspended like yours.

I got on today and saw this thread - sweet relief! Now I can watch my favorite WALL•E music video on the net…!!!

Again, thanks for the inspiration, TDIT. Anxiously awaiting the Dark Droid Trailer 2…!

little chef

Glad to hear you’re not giving up or anything, TDIT! I really enjoyed your other trailers, and I hope to see more in the future.

Strange thing, though… It won’t let me subscribe to you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Megavideo are quite good.

Thanks for the update on your vids, thedriveintheatre.

Man, that’s a real bummer about YouTube suspending your account… Unless you are splitting up and uploading whole movies in parts, I don’t see what the problem. is. And one would think it would come under the definition of ‘fair use’, too. Well, the Cars Toons, I can see why those were taken down, but your music videos - that’s an expression of fandom and you weren’t making money from them or anything. It sounds as if this rampage by YouTube has all been pre-emptive suspensions and deletions, even before record and movie companies have complained. Very heavy-handed.

I’ve subscribed to your new account (subscribed to your ‘Favourites’). Don’t let “The Man” get you down! =)

Absolutely spectacular that you don’t give up, thedriveintheatre! I find it terribly tragic that YouTube has struck your account down, too. :imp: Take your time settling down in your new account. It’s a good that you can get back in the game, so to speak.

Aww… thanks for the support guys!

I do realise that they may have brought me down because of Mater’s Tall Tales and the songs I’ve use in my music videos, but I always made sure to acknowledge the original creators in my video description (in the case of MTT) or in an ID tag (for the music videos). I’m still quite frustrated that I have to start all over again, it’s like they pulled the tablecloth and broke all my cutlery. Not to mention scaring away my guests. :imp:

Anyway, y’all are awesome! I’m almost done with The Dark Droid Trailer 2, and I’ve got a massive music video compilation on the horizon in theme with the Oscars, so there’s plenty to look forward to.

The Dark Droid Trailer 2 is about almost complete (I know I’ve been saying that for a long time), I just need to do the fade-in and out transitions. But I’m putting off the release date further, because I’ve got another project I’m rushing to finish in time for (or if not, by sometime next week), for the Oscars. If you’ve seen my very first music video, 2007 in Film done to ‘Ready to Go’ or The 2008 Summer Movies Music Video done to ‘Hip Hop A Lula’ (which I will both re-upload when I find the source files), this is something similar in nature.

The history behind this video is interesting. Back then, I had the idea to make a tribute video to as many of 2008’s movies as I can (which makes it different from The Ultimate 2008 Summer Movies… video, which only focused on summer releases) to the Kate Perry number ‘Hot and Cold’ alongside ‘Hoppipulla’ and a few others. Then oyguvaltshappy and another video editor used Hoppi, so I didn’t want to ape them. I was still considering Kate Perry’s number with the rest when I saw Jarinabigbox’s excellent tribute video using the song I was thinking of! And it turns out that he/she was in turn inspired by my 2008 Summer Movies Music Vid! So I kindly asked his/her permission to use this number and borrow the concept, but I promised to produce my own interpretation of the lyrics. Anyway, the link is at the bottom, and here’s the usual ‘promotional pitch’ (I like writing this stuff, please humour me, heheh). Bear in mind this is the trailer to the actual video, which will be released sometime later. So… enjoy!

"From the video editor of “2007 in Film” and “The Ultimate 2008 Summer Movies Music Video” comes another mega-tribute to the films of 2008, the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. In celebration of the Oscars season, The Drive-In Theatre is proud to present to you: “2008 in Film”!

Topping the previous MV’s record 43 trailers with 60 movies (which ends up with 60+ trailers cos’ some films have more than one), and condensed from 2007’s length of 5 minutes into 3.5 minutes, it’s the ultimate tribute to last year’s cinematic masterpieces and duds. From blockbusters to indies, arthouse to lowbrow, live-action to animated, European to Asian and everything else in between, there’s sure to be something for everyone! All synched to the annoying but infectious tune of Kate Perry’s chart-topper, ‘Hot and Cold’, this is one massive movie event not to be missed!"

2008 in Film Trailer

Rated PG for one mild swear word and reference to a female bodily function in the lyrics.
