The Definitive Pixar In-Jokes List

Mykonos_Fan - I know that some pots and pans in the kitchen have the initial “AG” on them for August Gusteau so perhaps that is what is really on there. If you could somehow get a Blu-Ray screencap of the letters in question, I’d be interested in taking a look at it.

The Up in-jokes section is now open!

You can see the most updated list of references by going to the first page of this thread. If you spot any in-jokes in Partly Cloudy or Dug’s Special Mission, please post here also (but please include spoiler tags when posting for Dug’s Special Mission).

So far I’ve added two in-jokes to the Up section, but because I don’t have the DVD (and even if I did, my DVD player for my computer is temperamental) I’m asking for your help to get the screencaps (an image) of any in-jokes in Up. Here’s a list of the in-jokes that have been spotted in Up so far that I need a screencap and exact location for. I didn’t spot most of these, they’re taken from the Up in-jokes thread.

  • The ball from Luxo Jr., Lotso the bear from Toy Story 3, and the wooden airplane from Toy Story are in the girl’s room when the house floats by her window. The plane also shows on the mobile that Carl has in the beginning of the movie. And it’s the model of the planes that the dogs fly in the end, when they’re attacking Russell.
  • The weather vane from Lifted is on top of the house?
  • The three Pizza Planet trucks
  • A113 at the courthouse
  • On Russell’s sash there is at least one Pixar-related badge - the Luxo Jr ball. Anything else on there?
  • The Mermaid girl from Knick Knack appears on a brochure at the bottom/right of the screen when Carl goes to buy plane tickets for Ellie and himself?
  • Muntz tells a dog holding a red Gusteau’s menu “Surprise me.”
  • Park from Geri’s Game on Shady Oak’s brochure?
  • In the Adventure book (and on page 29 of the Art of Up book) a cut out of a Charles Muntz newspaper article has text near the picture that mentions Linguini and Gusteau.

Once you have the image you can upload it to tinypic.com or another preferred image hosting site then I can add it to the list. Thank you, and you will be credited for helping out! :sunglasses:

Update on Up in-jokes. Just finished watching the commentary. Pete and Bob admit to recycling a lot of the setpieces for Ratatouille during the dinner scene, most notably the silverware and the actual food on their plates.

Also, they mentioned during that scene that there’s a skull hanging on the wall when they enter (more easily spotted when they exit) that’s actually Gazerbeam’s skull.

Several of the knick knacks in the house are strongly based on objects in Bob Peterson’s grandparents’ house, mentioning a poem hanging called the Clock of Life.

Excellent commentary by the way, I still need to check out the CineExplore on the Blu-ray, but I’ll have to wait til I can use my friend’s player. I’ll let you know if there’s more stuff they mention in there.

Also, I’ll get right on those screencaps!

Cars in-joke update. I dunno if this posted somewhere, but if it did, pardon me.

There’s Ed Catmull reference in the movie:

Notice the ‘big’ red circle? That’s it. I believe nobody will see that. That’s why I attach the link.

And this is the link for Hi-Def image. 8th from below.

Dang, very nice eye chef, that’s WAY tiny.

I’ve got a lot of the pics done, but there’s a few more. I’ll have them up in a few hours.

Yeah. Thank God for the technology. HD is awesome.
And yeah, I believe it’s from Up eh? Can’t wait tho!

Alright, I’ve got the pics up. I might have to find a different place to put them than photobucket if the reduction they made is too small. I’ll be happy to reupload though.

Interesting one. There’s a number on the top of Carl’s court paper saying E 94070. Looked up the ZIP, it’s for San Carlos California. I heard this was a reference to something, but I don’t have the specifics. I’ll try to find out what it is.
EDIT: Apparently Bradford Lewis, Ratatouille Producer and Cars 2 Director used to be the mayor of San Carlos. A throw to him.

There’s a store across the street from Carl’s house called Sushi Pronto, and the chopsticks and sushi have a nearly identical orientation to the logo for Harryhausens.

If I missed any, lemme know!

I think I took a glance of BnL logo at those trucks, can you check it out for me please. You can refer the scene from Carl walking out from his house until he gets in.

Oh thanks for that submission, wannabechef!

Thanks sooo much for doing that favour, ffdude! You are a champion! I’ll take a look at those and add them to the list soon. =)

Absolutely Rachel, my pleasure. The badge one was a bit irritating to get the still for in the movie [spoil]because of where it is (dang compulsive crying!)[/spoil].

I was just checking from my ipod, but I noticed a113 was unknown. I saw people posting that it is there, but it’s hard to see. But I saw it clear in theaters.

Which movie Wolfy? Can you make it clearer please?

WHOA! I just noticed! The Art of Up has a different badge order than the movie! The burger cake badge and cell phone badge are swapped! Check it out in my pics!

I’m really looking for a side to side comparison, but so far, I can safely say that Al’s car in TS2 and Flo in Cars are exactly the same model, with similar shots aimed at the license plate.

I’m not sure if this is exactly what Pixar did, but I spotted something weird in Ratatouille (at least, with my eyes).

In Ratatouille, if you remember the scene where Linguini revels to the chefs that Remy was controlling his movements and no one believed him, you’d probably remember that Colette also left, and she took a motorcycle.

While Colette was riding her motorcycle through Paris, she stops by the window of a bookstore, and sees the “Anyone Can Cook” book by Gusteau.

Now here’s where I noticed the weird thing: the “Anyone Can Cook” book stands in the midddle, with two books standing on either side. To the left of the cookbook, there is a light brown book with a green circle in it. I looked closely at it, and I saw a symbol that could’ve either been a French fleur-de-lis, or three leaves on a small stem (sound familiar?). Then again, my eyes could be deceiving me. :open_mouth:

If anyone happens to watch Ratatouille again, please pay careful attention to this part.

JustSoWall-eCrazy: Yeah, I noticed that too and if I’m not mistaken, it’s a hidden Mickey. But yeah, my eyes too can deceive me.

I dunno if this was posted or not, but the brand of Colette’s motorcycle is Callahan. Reference to Julius Callahan, actor who voice Lalo in Ratatouille.

When the house takes and flies past buildings, there is a little girlplaying in her room. In sane room there is a pink teddy bear by the bed (not easy to spot, but mentionned by Pixar staff as a Easter egg in interviews) AND the classic ball with a star.

Sorry if this has been given already, posted from iPhone, and I couldn’t find it on main topic page.

ffdude1906: I’m still not buying the third PP truck, I need to see a 1080p screencap before I believe it. I’m mainly reluctant since Jonas Rivera said that there were only two.

Bryko: Hmm, there’s a way I can prove that it’s a legitimate Pizza Planet truck, I’ve received 100% confirmation, but it’s hard for me to say. Of course, I expect you to question it unless I give you complete proof, but I will say that I know that it is one without a doubt. Basically, Jonas was mistaken.

I’m sorry I can’t exactly share how I know it’s real, but I just can’t. Maybe someone else can get a 1080p shot of it.

Hi Rachelcakes1985.

I have read your forum about finding any more Easter Eggs, or Inside-Joke as you call it.

I’m not sure if these ones have been discussed already…
Here are some I found when I watched Up.

This was my opinion when I saw Ratatouille on HD.

On the pot, there is an engraved initial of AG and RL. A hint to what is foreshadowed of Linguini’s parents. The initials on the copper pot must be Auguste Gusteau and Renata Linguini as a hint of their relationship before Skinner, Remy, and the event of losing their restaurant star occurred.

Also, it is told that within the pot where the soup is in, there is a figure that seems to look like a Mickey head inside. It seems like it is, but kind of distorted.

Just bringing the topic out there. Within the short film, Your Friend the Rat from the Ratatouille dvd, there are many cameos of Linguini as in 2D animations represented as in different historical interpretations: Roman Empire, World War I and II, BLack Death, and anatomy…and his regular looking self from the film.

In Pixar’s Up film. The scene when Muntz, Carl, and Russel are dining in the airship, The Spirit of Adventure.

There is a dog named Epsilom who wears a toque as he and the other dogs serve them their meals.
That is Linguini’s toque as seen from Ratatouille.

Also, if you watch the full Up film with Pete Docter’s and Bob Peterson’s commentary, Pete explains of the plates that are served is the same that Horst creates from Ratatouille. It is the same gourmet designed scallops on the same plate.

Another A113 sign is revealed during the scene where Carl sits outside and about to enter the courtroom.

Some screenshots of the Pixarplanet truck from Toy Story and TOy Story 2, Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and one where it crosses the Seine River in the film Ratatouille.

In Pixar’s Up, a pink teddy bear appears in a little girl’s bedroom when Carl floats away with his house. He will be the antagonist for 2010’s film, Toy Story 3.

Just for fun.
He’s all by John Ratzenberger
LOL!

The drawing from Up is drawn by Pete Docter’s daughter, Ellie Docter.
