Here are those for comparison. Other than the brown colour palette, I think they have really different styles. I can’t wait to do it as one of my graphics.

Oh, the logo’s neat! This ought to be awesome, just like Pixar, but I also sense it may be unexpectedly hilarious, possibly. I hope there’s a teaser for it with Monsters University. That is, if my theater actually decided to do it unlike last year when MU’s teaser didn’t play before Brave
!
It’s also kind of nice to take a break from the one-word titles of the last five original Pixar films. Nothing ever wrong with that, obviously, but still nice.
I like it. But shoulden’t they have a person in it to since’s it’s about dionsaues bring with humans.
It would be cool if they did a joke that Dinosaur was an live action movie instead of animated. They can even to that for Barney.
I’m exciting about this mish mash of humans and dinosaurs.
Thomas Newman has been confirmed to score this film.
I suppose that may be exciting for a lot of people, and he’s a good composer, but the repetitiveness of his sounds always turns me off.
^I like Thomas Newman. I actually think that Randy Newman is more repetitive.
Yay, Thomas Newman! He sounds like a very fitting choice for this movie. ![]()
Yes, Randy is quite repetitive too.
But I think Thomas Newman and James Horner are in the top of the list in that respect, as great as they both are.
I think Randy is brilliant, but I do think his scores have a more distinctive vibe to them—it’s hard for me to hear a film score from him without thinking of Toy Story at least a little. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Thomas sounds like a good choice.
^Me too. I actually like that, every once in a while it sounds like Toy Story. The one weird though was when I heard a bit of Monsters, Inc. during Toy Story 3. Not to mention it was sort of during a disturbing scene, so when I heard that I was totally thrown off and didn’t know what to think for a moment. I love nearly all of his scores. However, almost half of the Toy Story 3 score was re-used music from the first two films, and when it was original music it sometimes didn’t sound like him and more like Michael Giacchino or somebody else.
Thomas Newman sounds really good for this film. His music usually has an adventurous calmness to it that I like it, giving it an atmospheric feel if that makes any sense.
Haha. Yes, there was that bit. There’s also a part very similar to A Bug’s Life.
It makes all sense, because that’s exactly what he does. What really peeves me is that it’s what he does EVERY time. I would like if he would try something new. To me, what happened to him is the composer equivalent of an actor that has been typecast. It may be a good role, but when he does it over and over again, it looses a little of his charm, at least to me, as I’ve seen about 20 or 30 films scored by him, and I can recognize him even before I see the credits.
Oh yes. I thought there might have been but I couldn’t remember where at first, then I checked the soundtrack. It’s just about a minute before the Monsters, Inc. part, I think? And actually I liked Randy’s music in the movie, it just kind of surprised me how he sounded different. He really tackled the depth of the movie. It was a good change, just sort of different when compared to the re-used score in the rest of the film, but still good I say. If he does the Dia de los muertos movie, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear the Spanish Buzz theme!
I wonder if he will do that one, probably not. If he does though, and if he can sound as different as he did in Toy Story 3, I don’t think it would be a bad choice.
I think the only Thomas Newman ones I’ve heard were Finding Nemo and WALL*E. Hmm. I do see how he would sound the same, though. That makes me want to watch a few more that he’s scored just to see. I am becoming a little more familiar with the sound of certain composers. Did you know he was supposedly going to score Wreck-It Ralph? I wonder how that would have gone. But I love the Henry Jackman score, I can’t picture a better person for that movie. Personally, I thought it fit the feel of the movie and was more Disney-esque than maybe Thomas Newman’s would have been.
Haha, maybe, thought Día de los Muertos is a Mexican celebration, not Spanish, and the music from both countries is quite different.
I just realized this is The Good Dinosaur board ![]()
That’s true, I see what you mean. I guess I just thought it wouldn’t be too far-fetched if A Bug’s Life and Monsters, Inc. could be heard in Toy Story 3.
No worries, it’s probably my fault for getting off the subject of The Good Dinosaur and talking so much about composers! Well, these were still interesting conversations. We need more movie details! I hope this teaser is on Monsters University…and not exclusive to 3D showings either! ![]()
I hope so. This film needs more publicity.
Most of the people I know aren’t even aware it’s coming.
True. Publicity usually doesn’t start for movies until a year ahead of time, except for Toy Story 3. I think most of the world knew that was well on the way over a year in advance.
I bet Bob Peterson will make a good first solo impression. I can also picture him voicing a character, possibly a dinosaur. Are dinosaurs supposed to talk in this film? It could be interesting if either the dinosaurs didn’t talk or the humans didn’t talk. Not likely, but now I’m even more curious.
I agree with you. I hope the dinosaurs don’t talk.
But I’m pretty sure Peterson will do a voice. He’s great at it!
I guess you have in mind Disney’s film Dinosaur, which was so weird with its photorealist talking dinosaurs ?
What John Lasseter said about this film suggests the dinosaurs have a real society system (by that I mean human-like society), and if so I believe that would be hard to make work without words. On the other hand it would be really weird if dinosaurs could talk with humans.
May be they will do something like in Ratatouille, have the dinosaurs able to speak to each other but not with humans ?
That’s how I was imagining the film before, but now I don’t want them to speak at all ![]()
Why not?
I mean, not having the dinosaurs talk could be nice, but what if we find the film may require them to talk? We know next to nothing about it! I’m sure you just want to see a change too, but especially if they are main characters, I won’t mind. I also thought that an interesting idea might be if they talk, but the humans don’t.
Perhaps take caution in hoping the dinosaurs don’t talk.
It’s fine, but next thing you know we could hear them doing a monologue in the teaser. I know, it would be more interesting for them to be silent, but maybe it won’t matter. Some people shunned the idea of Cars movies just because they instantly didn’t like the idea, but most people gave them a chance and ended up liking them.
