The Inevitable Pirates of the Caribbean 2 thread ;)

Hey guys! Good to have some members coming in  What are the thoughts on POTC2, then? Any theories for #3? Remember to use spoiler tags just incase, like this:[spoil]Spoiler goes here![/spoil]

There’s a button for it between ‘Quote’ and ‘Code’ up there!

I personally loved the second movie, I’ve seen it three times already  It was much more slapstick than the first, but how can you not love the insanity that was that amazing three-way sword-fight?

I saw it at midnight Friday morning, and unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to see it again… but don’t worry - I’ll have plenty of chances.

Obviously I loved it, I’m quoting Jack in my sig!

I loved the humor, most of it coming from Jack of course, but Elizabeth had her moments too… Will was too brooding, and had too many issues to work through…
What I really loved was seeing the change in Norrington’s character. I’m not happy about the choices Norrington made, but at the same time, I kept fangirling (silently of course) because Norrington’s, like, 20 times cooler than he was in the first movie.

And the three-way sword fight kicked all kinds of butt.

I thought it wasn’t too bad… for beigng a Disney sequel. At least it made it to theaters. XD

I absolutely loved it! The humour was brilliant (‘Where’s the monkey, I need to shoot something!’) and I did actually jump a few times. Jack – as ever – was just incredible, so I won’t even start my gushing on that front.

One thing I didn’t like was how many jokes they re-used from the first film. Did anyone else groan at this [spoil]the prostitutes slapping Will, and Governor Swann’s line about the dog with the keys? I mean – it made it sound as if the Governor deliberately had a dog guarding his prison![/spoil]

What do you guys see happening in the third film?

I didn’t mind that actually, especially since the line about the dog was followed up later

Personally, I like the first pirates better. Jack was funny of course, but as Mel_ O_

Drama said, they overused to many jokes
[spoil] But the swordfight was one of the better

scenes! It made the rest of my family motion sick. Their discomfort was funny. [/spoil]

Ahaha, maybe it’s because I didn’t rewatch

the first film before I saw the second for the first time, but I didn’t find the reuse of the old jokes that

overbearing. The rum stuff maybe, but only because “Why’s the rum gone” has become some sort of

irritating catchphrase

I absolutely LOVE Tia Dalma and Davy Jones!

[spoil]Mell and

I have been talking about how she’s probably going to be major in the next one, because she and Davy have

matching lockets and the little melody on the soundtrack is often heard when either one is on screen

[/spoil]

Yeah, my sister and I

thought that too… that and:

[spoil]The boots in Tia Dalma’s house in the beginning - the

ones that the undead monkey goes straight to - were probably Barbossa’s… I hope that in #3 we’ll get the

story of how a dead Barbossa found Tia Dalma and how he became un-dead.[/spoil]

[spoil]Oh they definitely were! I don’t think Tia Dalma’s much on the side of our heroes - I think

she resurrected Barbossa, is embroiled with Davy Jones and will effectively use her powers for anyone with the

right ‘payment’ - apparently the actress who played her and Johnny Depp decided to play the characters as

ex-lovers, too.[/spoil]

[spoil]Well, they pretty much stated that they used to be lovers in the movie with: 'I thought

I knew you!’ Jack had a line about how they used to be thick as thieves as well,

although I can’t remember the quote.
And you’re right about Barbossa, Jack picked up his hat in Tia Dalma’s

house, too![/spoil]

[spoil]Aha

yes, but I read an interview that said they specifically decided to play it that way - I’m not sure if the

script was more ambiguous originally?[/spoil]

[spoil]Ha ha,

who knows! Seems Tia Dalma’s got a bit of a wandering eye though! [/spoil]

A brilliant film, but I prefer the first. I guess the whole theme was fresher then. Jack Sparrow is still as brilliant as ever, though.

I had a lot of fun seeing it - it was my first midnight showing! All my friends were there

– we took up almost an entire row in the huge theater.

So I know filmmaking wise - its not a masterpiece,

but it was fun and kept ME awake at 2 AM – so I say that’s good enough. The whole point of those movies is to

have fun and they achieved that. I remember having to see the first one many times before the whole plot made

sense to me (and we’ve still got plot holes! yay) so I sorta expected a level of confusion … which … is

alright because we figured out the basic plot anyways.

The ending though … my friends … the entire

crowd actually … all gasped and screamed … did anyone else get that weird sensation? I dunno - it was like a

shock-shiver or something seeing the last 15 seconds. o_O Days after …
[spoil] I’d still walk

over to my friends and yell “OH MY GOD BARBOSSA!” hahaha.[/spoil]

Anyways … I want

a shirt that says something like “I <3 Jar of Dirt!”
We will miss that jar of dirt …
And

I’m sure Jack does too. Wherever he is …

I

just saw it tonight and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it just as much as the last!

On the comments

on the Overusing the jokes . . . hey that’s why their funny: It’s known as a Running Gag. Keeping up with the

rum and eunich puns was simply hilarious because they’ve done it so often!

What I wish they continued to

have done was kept up the “Opportune Moment” lines.

I also loved everyone’s faces during the

three-way fight. It was like not even the characters in the MOVIE could believe what was happening!!

I

loved the role of Jack the Monkey. ([spoil]For the pure relief of anger by Sparrow. GIBBS:

“Shooting it won’t do any good” SPARROW: Of course it will. BANG!! SPARROW:"Ah, that felt

good.[/spoil])

And finally I seriously wondering if [spoil]Barbossa was spat out by

hell itself for a second time![/spoil]

[spoil]I couldn’t

believe Barbossa’s entrance, either! ‘Slack-jawed’ is probably the most fitting description for my reaction

to the ending. I think the implication is that Tia Dalma brought him back to life; when Jack brings her the

monkey, he runs into another room. You can see someone lying down, but all you can see are their boots. Then, a

few minutes later, Jack picks up Barbossa’s hat and examines it – so he’s definitely been there for a while,

at least![/spoil]

I don’t know about the running jokes, still. Some of them, I did laugh at.

The eunuch line had me in stitches, but some of them just seemed too forced, I suppose.

The three-way

fight was amazing. (And I did love Jack’s ‘I’m still rooting for you, mate’ line. ) That must have

taken forever to co-ordinate. I remember reading somewhere, that out of the three actors, Orlando Bloom (Will)

was the best swordsman. (Obviously he had all that training for the [i]Lord of the

Rings[/i] films already.) The second best was Jack Davenport (Norrington), and the absolute worst was

Johnny Depp (Jack), who apparently just kept stabbing out and hitting and had no grace whatsoever – but the

directors decided since he was a pirate, it made sense for him to fight that way, anyway! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and

Wink" />

I loved the movie, but the ending annoyed me. It just dropped off. But that’s

what they do when a sequel’s planned, I know, but … I dunno, I left feeling empty. I really wanted to know

what happened next. =P

I can only assume that the next film’s going to be better, and I seriously hope

my assumption is right.

Yes, each have

there own style, and it’s really hard to notice them any different! The wheel, was just amazing . . . again,

what made it beleivable for the audience, I beleive was the fact that characters like Elizabeth, Ragetti, and

Pintel were just shocked to see them at it on a wheel!

[spoil]Jack picks up Barbossa’s hat

in the shack, too! I spotted the boots and the hat first time and still didn’t twig it was him,

though![/spoil]

There was ONE shot on the wheel that was really obviously the background

twirling and wind machines going, and it didn’t ruin it exactly but to me, it stuck out a little in an otherwise

perfectly pulled off sequence. I LOVED the running inside the cages, too, haha!

And the poor short

pirate was left in a real pickle suring that running!! Did you see his face!! Hilarious!
