The Lord of the Rings

Just like the Harry Potter thread, I can’t

believe nobody has brought this up before!!! I have only recently got into The Lord of the Rings. I haven’t read

the books, but I have seen the three films (which are perfectly cast) in their extended cut form. Peter Jackson

did a fantastic job directing them. What are your’e thoughts on The Lord of the Rings (and the prequel, The

Hobbit) ?

I only seen the first one. I have yet to see the other two. BUt they intrest me alot.

I have seen all three only once

each. Fantastic films, but not something I am crazy over.

The second one was my favorite.

I remember when I first saw The Lord of the

Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – I thought it was the greatest masterpiece I had ever seen in

my life, besides Star Wars of course. Two and a half hours of pure imagination and

creative genious… I loved it and still love

it…

Actually, I used to be quite obsessed with the Lord of the Rings films

for a time to the point that I joined a website known as www.councilofelrond.com. Ahh…the fond memories of that

place. I still say “hi” to my fellow fans sometimes, and if you’d like to know…my name there is

“foolofatook~”…due to the fact that I love Pippin…

I haven’t read the entire novel yet

(I’ve only gotten up to book five, I believe), but it’s simply captivating. I’ve also read The

Hobbit, a book that I love even more than The Lord of the Rings.

Quite beautiful. It’s incredible how Tolkien is able to paint a clear picture in your mind of what particular

characters and locations look like. Just…simply astounding.

I’ve seen all of the films quite a number

of times, including the commentaries (which are actually pretty funny in places). And if anyone would like to

know how to view the special easter eggs on the extended edition dvds of the film, just let me know.

For those of you who have seen the easter eggs, you’ll probably know why

that interview between Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan (which is an easter egg on the Return of

the King special edition dvd; first disc) is my favorite of the special features. I was crackin’

up laughing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I saw alittle bit of return of the king and my moth just dropped. Now I know why it was so

dominant in the Academy Awards.

I used to be really crazy about Lord of the Rings. I

read the trilogy and the Hobbit. I have the Extended Editions, but haven’t got around to watching the extra

features.

Mitch- Easter Eggs?! Tell Me! (please)

Yeah, Did you know New Line is making a film version of The

Hobbit, and that they want somebody else to direct it? Why would they do that?

Here’s the

easter egg Mitch was talking about :

link.

Who is your favorite character? I have two: Gollum and Treebeard

sharpie -

Archibald already provided the easter egg I was talking about, but the others are

these…if you were wondering:

Fellowship of the Ring: 1st Disc - An MTV

spoof of a moment in The Fellowship of the Ring film, staring Jack Black. It’s

rather crude, but funny none-the-less.

The Two Towers - I don’t remember

which disc it was on, but I know that one of the eggs has a Gollum cameo on it.

Return of

the King: 1st Disc - See the link that Archibald provided.

Return of the King: 2nd Disc - Some Hollywood “businessmen”

attempt to convince Peter Jackson to produce a prequel to the sequels.

I know there are other eggs on

some of those discs, but I can’t remember what they are. (snigger) The Elijah Wood/Dominic Monaghan feature on

the first disc of Return of the King is the funniest, though. And all of these

easter eggs are on the special extended edition discs of the films only.

Archibald - Yeah, there it is! So funny. I

practically wet my pants from laughing.

Bill - Favorite character?

That would have to be Pippin. There are three features/personality traits I share with him: short height,

curiosity, and mischeviousness. :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t believe it. They are making a film of The Hobbit, and at this point, it looks like Peter Jackson is NOT

directing. The president of New Line said that " he will never make another movie with New Line again as

long as I’m president" and that Peter “only wants more money”. That is the biggest bunch of

nonsense (I’m saying it a better way than I’m thinking it) I have ever heard!!!

Bill – Man, that sucks!

Too bad there’s all

those politics! I mean you’re only going to make what 30 million dollars?! Man,

JUST MAKE THE DARNED MOVIE! :stuck_out_tongue:

That is a really good

question. Seeing the fact that I have only watched it once, I can’t really say.

:sunglasses:

Gandalf

is amazing. I love the fact that he was played by the same guy who played Magneto in X-Men. He is such a good

actor.

Archibald - Sounds like you and my sister have something

in common. Ian McKellen played a brilliant performance, I must say.

I really enjoyed his character. He is so wise and powerful.

I’d have to say SAM! Good ol’ sam!

Oh yes, Sam is a very striking character to me. He is the perfect example of a perfect

friend.

Gasduude - Haha – everytime I think of Sam I think of

potatoes…

“What’s…'taters, precious?” - Gollum
