And since a lot of you have been worried about how much of the movie is based on Fantasia, they addressed it during its presentation at WonderCon last week:
So there ARE definitely little nods to it, which is great to hear. It seems like the movie got pretty good feedback from the presentation - a good mix of action, special effects and humor.
Having seen K.A. too, I have to agree it’s one of his better performances. Especially when he starts stuttering in ‘Superhero Mode’! I don’t know how good he’ll be in Sorcerer’s, but I really hope he’ll be great! The ‘just-a-little’ sign at the end was a nice touch, and I just hope it’s one of many.
CoCoMeister - Thanks for the link! I thought I saw a glimpse of dancing brooms in the trailer… or is it just me?
I am definitely rooting for Cage’s streak to continue! I haven’t seen Kick-A** yet, but I’ve only heard great things about it, so hopefully I’ll catch it soon. Hopefully the good reviews will continue with Sorcerer’s.
Here’s a new poster - which I think looks pretty awesome. Love the colors and the effects!
The “[spoil]old man’s shoes[/spoil]” line killed me… I really like the sly sense of humour and banter between Nick and Jay. This is like the Karate Kid- but with spells and magic!
Sorry guys, I dunno how to fix the links, but you can see it on Impawards.com.
Disney has released a new preview of the much-anticipated Fantasia broom sequence. From what I’ve seen, it’s a fitting tribute, along with a fresh spin on it when Jay’s character’s love interest decides to pay a visit.
I saw the trailer for this movie when I went to see Toy Story 3 a couple of nights ago, and as soon as the title The Sorcerer’s Apprentice popped up on the screen, I was like: “… WHAT?! But, where’s Mickey Mouse, the blue sorcerer’s hat and the dancing brooms?”
I still don’t know what to think of this though, since I’ve always loved the original Fantasia movie. =\ Maybe I’ll have a more positive opinion on it once we get a better looking preview.
I am interested, especially finding out that Nicholas Cage has Asperger’s!! I already held him as one of my favorite actors, but having my disability is major bonus points. I just wish it was less Harry Potter-ish.
Does he? I didn’t know that. Although, I would’t count having a disability as a ‘plus point’… acting ability is the deciding factor for me. I could see though that having something in common with your favourite actor helps in the ‘relatibility’ area (some of my fave actors are geeks, for example).
This movie looks alright on it’s own! I really don’t see the connection of the animated sorcerer’s apprentice and this one. Too me this is just another action packed movie, which I’m fine with! I like actiony! But I don’t think of it to be related anyway at all. Besides title.
Hi guys~ In case you aren’t aware, I’m on here on behalf of Disney to chat with you guys about some of our movies and get some feedback. It’s interesting to hear what Fantasia fans have to say about this, especially. I know the dancing mops, Mickey Mouse and the blue hat are very iconic images, but we’re really just trying to capture the spirit of that little short (magic being used to manipulate anything you, which can sometimes get out of control and be used for good or evil).
Did you watch the Fantasia sequence that thedriveintheater posted earlier? The filmmakers explain how they reimagined that famous scene for the movie. Maybe that will make you feel a little bit better about it And you are right, elle-jessie-eve, it is very action-packed…we think it’ll be a fun summer movie!
I’m still mildly interested. It’s Disney, it’s Nicholas Cage, the only way it would look better is if it was an original story that wasn’t based on a classic film and looked less like Harry Potter.
Yeah, you’ll have to forgive some of us. I can admit that we’re just fans all-in-all, and some of us tend to get real biased about anything remotely new based on our childhood if it isn’t how we remember it and stuff (this same thing happen to me with Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland cause of growing up with Walt Disney’s animated version). Sure some of us will still choose the original Sorcerer’s Apprentice over the new one, but you make a point that it doesn’t always mean that everyone working on the film is any less passionate towards the original.
BTW, it’s amazing that you’re actually here on behalf of Disney! I hope you still have more 2D films like The Princess and the Frog planned for the future.
I would like to ask: what exactly is your job at Disney? And what part of Disney do you represent? I’m just curious, because I’m a bit suspicious.
Secondly, I actually have a list of complaints, worries and concerns over the recent marketing decisions. They’re not really over The Sorcerer’s Apprentince per say; more along the lines of some of your upcoming animated features, particularly Tangled. But I don’t want to bring them up here because this is a Sorcerer’s Apprentice thread, and people really do need to stay on topic. If it’s possible, could I privately PM you about it? I’ve been a huge fan of Disney ever since I was a little girl, and knowing that I can’t even contact Disney to express some of my feelings and concerns on where the company is heading just frustrates me, especially knowing that they’ll probably ignore everything I have to say. I know I’m just a normal fan and not an important person, but Disney really means everything to me, and I really WANT the company to do well.
