IF Zurg is truly from Thinkway, then surely it wouldn’t be released by itself, but as part of another “wave” with at least one or two other products. Or Thinkway have teamed with Disney to release single products through Disney Store (although I’m not sure that would make sense for either of them)? Whatever the case, the new Zurg looks good.
And given that the scale, electronics, etc that are involved in making Zurg are a pretty major investment, it gives me hope that we’ll see similarly “complicated” figures like Trixie and even Stinky Pete!
I dont think it would necicarily be part of a wave. havent they put out things before bythemselves? People forget that they have continuisly made toy story toys over the years. many of which not very accurate either. I wouldnt be shocked if this was just a one off thing. Of course I could also see them doing some others to go with it. Maybe that rex is even theres. Maybe they saw this as an oppurtunity to make a cheaper in scale rex made out of the correct plastic. The only thing about that though is the sculpt is different, namely the scales (as in his skin, not size).
Well, it depends on how you look at it. I’m not crazy about the sculpt. It looks like a definite downgrade. The scales are my main issue, there placement and sizing is off. The paint also looks like its not hand painted anymore, meaning its more sloppy. You can already see the over spray in the eyes.
If the articulated jaw and correct plastic are your thing then yes this is better. But if you want no visible seams and screw holes, and more accurate sculpt and paint job, TSC is still better. You just have to decide what kind of compromise you want to make.
Its still very much up in the air though as for who’s claiming Rex. They say there going to see if they can find out though.
I wonder why they have chosen now to make a zurg after all the films are out and no toys been released in a while? Especially if toy story is not there main focus! I know they are releasing a Rex and buzz but a brand new character seems odd unless they are planning on more toys over next year or so. Anyone agree?
I think Zurg has had a pretty continuous presence in Toy Story related media. Zurg had a cameo in Toy Story 3, appeared as a mini-me version in the “Small Fry” Toy Story Toon, appears in the Toy Story 3 video game as a playable character (on the PS3 version), etc.
And Zurg ranks pretty high on most adult collector’s “most wanted” list. Although, I’m sure it’s Zurg’s appeal to kids which is most important to Disney/Thinkway. So … it kind of makes sense that we would see a Zurg released.
I just don’t understand why now really. I thought we were done with the toys? Not that I am complaining cos this looks wicked.
I would be so happy if they released a stinky pete. I reckon the reason they have not released one is because they don’t think it will sell cos kids don’t want a ugly doll lol. I mean collectors would snap it up but that is my view.
Well, now that the TS3 hype has died down they can focus more on minor characters like this. They need something to keep the toy story franchise going for them toy wise, and this should help I think.
And remember, we still have toy story toons, and tv specials. Zurg could be in a number of those for all we know.
Stinky pete is a hard sell not just because he’s a villain and is an old man, but his presents is limited to one movie and thats it. Zurg was in some form or another there from the beginning. Even though they didn’t know what Zurg should look like just yet, you still had his name mentioned, the crayon drawing of him on Andy’s wall, etc. his more obvious role in TS2, and even the cameo in TS3. I think that warrants a release, even if this late.
Going off of the buzz box, I dont think Zurg will have a great box. That Buzz will likely be 30-40 like similar versions have been, so I imagine zurg being in the 30-50 range
Its kind of a given that he’ll talk. The question I have is who will voice him. will it be Andrew Stanton? probably someone else. What might his phrases be?
Also, do we think he’ll have wheels? Will he be able to move on his own? If this were officially TSC I would expect a follow mode like RC has, but since its not Im not sure what to expect in terms of features. Just what kind of things would put him over the edge of being a cheaper toy? We can already assume he doesn’t shoot anything, doesnt have individual fingers, and my guess is he doesnt have a truely articulated rubber waist. But in terms of other features Im not sure what other things they might cut or add.
Man, now that we have a good Zurg coming up Im probably going to want a Utility Belt Buzz to with it it. Their so expensive now though. arghh.
Wish they would put those back into production.
After examining that Zurg for literally an hour (of a really boring night shift), I believe whole heartedly that the smallest it can be is 13 inches and thats with miminal depth perception. If buddy pack rex is 2 inches then the box is about 9 inches, rex is about 12 inches and Zurg is no less than 13…Rex is actually bigger than small thinkway but a tad smaller than TSC…and Zurg is either perfect or just a tad smaller, prolly a tad smaller…but taller than Buzz, so acceptable for most of us
