Personally, I can’t wait to see this movie! It looks amazing, and I love post-apocalyptical movies (which is one of the reasons why I loved WALL-E so much).
Gahhh! So excited for this movie! I’ve watched the trailer more times than I can count. But more importantly I’ve watched the original short and that’s something that you should do if you’re interested in the story. I’d talk in length about it, but I still have a mound of storyboards to work on.
Long story short (pun slightly intended), watch the short. Same title, and you can find it easily on YouTube. It beat out the other shorts of that year to win the Oscar.
And to pick up on the above conversation, I, too, see nothing that made me think “Burton”. The models, story and layout are practically identical to Acker’s original designs. What did go trough my mind when I saw Burton’s name was "Good. Someone who knows how not to fudge up a dark-themed movie’. If I had to see a post-apocalyptic animated movie, I rather have Burton over anyone else. It’s gonna be dark. There’s going to be death, and it’s going to break stereotypes regarding the animation medium for storytelling (at least I hope it will).
The song is the instrumental to Cohead and Cambia’s “Welcome Home”.
I’m hoping they actually rendered the whole track with choral accompaniment. If they did, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I saw the short too, pretty interesting, and it certainly explains a lot about the film (like the concept of the sack people’s numbers, their life-force, their enemies and such).
I have high hopes that this will be a ground-breaking film, both in terms of plot (post-apocalyptic otherworldly universe), characters (sack-people), and content (dark, scary, possibly adult in nature?). A huge deviation from the standard “talking-furry-animals-that-behave-like-humans” movies that have been done to death.
Thanks for the song name, Haunt! I’ve gotta go check it out. Man, the guitar plucking… wicked.
Ok, now I’m feeling special because I SAW THE SHORT, TOO! I loved it. It was so dark and sad and awesome! It sure explained a lot.
One funny thing I noticed in the trailer: Is that a human tossing a grenade into one of the robots?
I saw the trailer for this at a screening of Coraline. Something about it just doesn’t sound like my cup of tea. Anyways, I usually like Tim Burton films. Plus, I think the producer is the guy who directed Wanted. And it has the guy from Up in it. Uh… Christopher something? Oh, and, yeah, what is that song that plays in the trailer?!!
That…was…AMAZING! It totally reminded me of something to do with 2012. The music was awesome, and the buildings and the post-apacalyptic look was sweet! I loved those killer robots; they looked so cool! But was 9 like the ninth whatever-he-was created, or something? And he DOES look like that guy from LBP. I would totally go see that movie!
Oh, I hope we don’t have another Coraline situation where everybody believes it’s by Tim Burton.
It’s not very much his style, his color palette is usually more black and blue-ish than green.
I’m very excited for this film; I hope it breaks that awful mold of animation being a children’s genre… gah.
Only, uh, 6 more months! Hooray!
I really want to see it. Didn’t really remind me of Tim Burton much either, and I watch a lot of Tim Burton movies. =D It’s kinda funny how now that every time there’s a ‘darker’ movie people just associate it with Tim Burton right away.
I checked the LuxAnimation site, it says 9 will only be 75 minutes long? Doesn’t that seem too short?
It is a bit short compared to many animated films, but it is based on a short, and honestly, if it’s a good movie, they shouldn’t force it longer.
Anyways… YES, YES, YES. This is my most anticipated movie of 2009. Please forgive me, Pixar, I’m quite excited for Up, I mean, REALLY excited for it, but good grief, post apocalyptic sci-fi nightmare with deadly robots, explosions and the most awesome trailer on the face of the planet. I’m just blown away and waiting as patiently as I can.
Did you all see that new clip MTV released yesterday? It’s called “Under Attack”… goodness.
It needs to be September NOW.
They released a clip? goes to seek it
This looks pretty awesome… now I wanna go see it. XD
But Up comes first… love how the song seems to fit the trailer really well and the movements of the characters are believable.
This movie is so getting fan art. SO excited!
Haunt - Fan art meaning from you? Now I’m excited, too!
For anyone’s interested, the song used in the trailer is “Welcome Home” by Coheed and Cambria. Singer’s voice is uh… interesting, but the guitar ‘jamming’ is off the charts!
I am a VERY big fan of Tim Burton, so I can’t wait. I also cannot wait for Alice in Wonderland and Frankenweenie!
Ditto! I think this guy’s a genius! Anything that comes out of him must be great!
Well, keep in mind Mr. Burton only produced it. From the clip, his presence shows, but he didn’t CREATE 9.
Bryko - Yes, it’s been confirmed as PG-13 by the MPAA.
I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen a PG-13 animated flick, one that’s mainstream anyways. This just makes it a bigger year for animation!
