My family is taking a trip to California, and we will be in the San Fransisco area. So, I thought, then I realized; PIXAR IS NEAR THERE! So, I came home and researched tours of the studio, and I found nothing. So, is it possible to get any tour of Pixar, or anything?
Please help me out… Maybe I could tell them of my WALL-E 500,
You can read about this in their company FAQ. Unfortunately, they don’t give tours unless there is a special event, such as a charity screening that you can purchase tickets to. In general, they are a closed studio. I wish you could tour PIXAR though.
It is possible to tour Pixar, well, they say they don’t give public tours, but if you have enough determination, you could get a studio tour, or at least get into the studio.
A few times a year Pixar has charity tours, there’s one in about Oct - Nov of every year… it’s mainly for young people and they have activities for you to do. From memory the tickets are a few hundred dollars.
You would need to get an invitation from someone that works there. That would be a family member or friend, or anyone that has the right to get you in. Again, Pixar has an annual family and friends day, for, you guessed it, family and friends of the studio to get a tour and see where they work.
In addition to the family and friends day, they also have a family and friends advance screening of their latest feature at the studio. I think this may be invite-only, and your name has to be on the list in advance, so I don’t think you could buy those tickets over eBay…
Another way to get in would be to apply for a job there, and if you are good enough, you’ll get called for an interview at the studios.
Before the release of their films, keep an eye out for any competitions running where you could win a trip to the studios. This year cinema projectionists in the US got given a chance to enter a competition for a tour.
So just keep an eye on this forum or Upcoming Pixar and you’ll get notified of any events where the public could attend the studio. Usually you’ll need to have money to pay for the charity events, so start saving. Also, it depends on what time of the year you are going, and if your vacation coincides with any events. Those are just ways to get into the studio that I’ve either heard, or pieced together over time. If any other more knowledgeable members could add some more detailed info, that would help.
I really don’t think it’s that hard to get in there, as long as you have determination, and a bit of money to actually pay for a charity event. You just have to know when the events usually take place. Not that I’ve tried to get a tour or anything, though…
I took my vacation in Emeryville 2 weeks ago - specifically to see the studios. (And to see where I would be living when I do get that job at Pixar). I had read on their website that they don’t do tours, but I had to at least see the outside of the studio. It was really uneventful, they don’t have the Luxo lamp for the “I” or anything, just their name in black. Oh, but it turns out they are expanding their studio a lot. They have signs up where the construction is going on. So there is hope for all of us Pixar-employee-hopefuls!!
