The Ultimate Toy Box? yes that has the most bonus features, but the bulk of it is included in the blu rays. some of it has been ported, but changed a bit. for example, the ultimate toy box has galleries, but on the other releases (both the 10th anniversary editions and blu rays) have them in animated slide shows with music. I much prefer the gallery format myself, but the content is still present.
The parts that were taken out were mostly fluff anyway I believe, and have been replaced with newer fluff.
So yeah, while I highly suggest keeping the ultimate toy box for the extras, (not to mention this set still goes for a pretty penny on e-bay due to its rarely) the video quality is better on the rest of the releases (not counting the very first barebones set) , especially the blu rays, obviously, but even the dvd versions have higher bitrate video.
should you get this box set if you only have the ultimate toy box? In my opinion, yes, absolutely. if you already have the blu rays out now and are still contemplating it, I’d say only if you want the novelty packaging. the digital copies, and to a lesser extent the dvds are all kinda useless unless your not savvy enough to rip your old sets yourself.
Okay, okay. This is confusing the heck out of me… the new trilogy set is called “The Ultimate Toy Box”, and there’s also an older release called “The Ultimate Toy Box”. So, whaa?
I didn’t realize when I first typed that they had a similar name. but there is a small difference, the new 10 disc set is called “The Ultimate Toy Box Collection”. the older one is simply “The Ultimate Toy Box”.
I really like the wireframe packaging on the old Toy Box set. Looks cool. I don’t own it though. I own the 10th Anniversary Edition and Special Edition of Toy Story 1 and 2. In fact, I own almost every Pixar film in a Special Edition, except for Cars which didn’t recieve one and A Bug’s Life which I still have yet to get. Still stuck with the 1-Disc Edition.
In the future, I’ll upgrade my collection to Blu-ray since it’s now become the better viewing format. DVD may die in a few years time, since it happened to VHS and Laserdisc.
Yeah, I’ve pretty much decided this is the version I’ll be buying (if it’s released in my country, that is) - I’m so glad I’ve held off from buying TS1 and TS2 on Blu Ray/DVD.
By the way, I’m not sure if this has been brought up yet, but there’s apparently another version of TS3 being released in December - some are speculating that it could be a special 3D Blu-Ray edition:
I have no idea as to the legitimacy of these rumours, but I’d personally wait until the 3DS is released (there’s no way I can afford to get a 3D television! -.-). Nintendo has made deals with Disney, Warner Bros and DreamWorks to release some of their movies in portable format for the 3DS. It’s highly likely that Toy Story 3 will come to Nintendo’s console in all its 3D glory:
Yeah, I think It’s a given we’ll get TS3 on the 3DS. I won’t be able to afford a new tv any time soon, let alone a new 3d blu ray player. I don’t think I’ll have to worry about getting TS3 in 3d on blu ray yet. Im glad its getting put out there though, if that turns out to be the case. the faster 3D catches on at home, the faster the prices will come down.
I prefer the final art a lot more. Richer colors, better placement of the characters. The only thing I don’t like is that they changed Woody on the spine to Rex. It should’ve been Buzz or Lotso.
I’m not convinced that the BluRay cover is final. Look at Jessie’s leg, it’s very strangely positioned. Also, the alien on the bottom is from promo images of Toy Story 2, not 3.
Strangely positioned? you can barely even see it. Doesnt look odd to me. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t final. They don’t usually put out shots that high res this close to release that aren’t.
I’m glad they removed that tacky glow they had going earlier.
As much as I’m looking forward to it, I’m still a bit dissapointed in the lack of commentary and other bonus features on the DVD release. Oh well, I’ll probably upgrade my Pixar collection to Blu-ray as soon as DVD dies out.
That’s a good idea. However, I’ll think I’ll just get the standard DVD edition for now. It’ll save me less money and look better in my DVD collection. I’ll get that trilogy set when I upgrade to Blu-ray.
I think you misunderstood. I meant the 2 Disc BluRay cover. Jessie’s left leg (our left, her right) is too far to the right (the one that says ANDY on the boot), and the Alien on the bottom left is a Toy Story 2 render.
