Toy Story 3 vs. Shrek Forever After

this link has some early shrek 4 reviews, some very negative responses  http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/487826/shrek_forever_after_reviews_roundup.html

Just saying, I took a poll of 20 people in my class as to which they’d rather see - Shrek 4 or TS3. 19 said TS3 w/o question. The one who said Shrek 4 only said that because he thinks that TS3 is for babies/toddlers. Oh well, his loss :stuck_out_tongue:

Somebody didn’t have a childhood…

Some of the baddest kids in my school even have a soft spot for Toy Story.

yup same thing in my highschool

Why do they bother? Despicable Me will get some money, but they won’t stand a chance against the bigger films, like TS3 and Shrek, IronMan, etc.

I know many people who love Toy Story, what happens is that Shrek is more recent, and the Shrek people also find it very funny. Lotso is bad? :frowning:

The phrase is implying Toy Story’s plot is inferior compared to Despicable Me’s supposedly better one (“You can’t mess with out storyline!”). At least, that’s how I read it.

Sharp ears, ureuseiranma! I didn’t catch that reference.

Lol, only 1 or 2 voted for Shrek. To be honest, I haven’t really been looking forward to Shrek 4.

Weekend Box Office estimate for Shrek 4: $71,250,000

Opening weekend for Shrek: $42,347,760

Opening weekend for Shrek 2: $108,037,878

Opening weekend for Shrek 3: $121,629,270

That’s a pretty huge drop-off from S3 and S2. I can safely assume that it’s real earnings will be around the estimate; I really don’t see it earning that much after the meh that was S3. Still waiting to see if it has any legs, though I kinda doubt it.

TS3 definitely has the domestic BO in the bag.

Well, here you have the first reports about Shrek 4.

It was a disappointment economically: comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=66301

And critically: rottentomatoes.com/m/shrek_goes_fourth/

Yup, DW pretty much got what it deserved. Hopefully they learnt their lesson, though I’m sad it has to be at the expense of what is one of their best character lineups (I really like you, Shrek & Company, I really do. It’s just that the twits in the boardroom had to drive you lot into the ground…).

I really want to scream “Yes! In Your Face, Katzenberger!” but I actually kind of feel sorry for them. I mean, Dreamworks was taking a huge risk with Shrek Forever After, as the characters themselves were perhaps the most cherished icons Dreamworks ever produced, and to see them fail miserably with their last segment is really disappointing. Still, I can’t expect every computer animation company to be PIXAR, can I?

I’m pretty surprised, I have to say, but pleasantly surprised. It just goes to show that the audience is a bit more discerning than Dreamworks realised.

By the way, I find it hilarious that out of the 53 people who voted only 1 voted for Shrek Forever After. Kudos to them, it takes guts to vote for Dreamworks on a Pixar Forum!

Same, although I do find it kind of strange that Toy Story 3 has 98%, while apparently Shrek only has 1%…makes me wonder, where did that extra 1% go?

To Despicable Me.

I know that the opening was a failure, yes, but that site said that the opening was the fourth biggest opening for animated movie ever. Not only is that still impressive on its own, but it also means that TS3 might not beat it opening wise. But hey, it did terrible overseas, and thats where Shrek does really good. So, theres someting to cheer about.

Dreamworks Animation seems to operate on the same level as Hollywood studios. It’s like a mountain climber seeming to grow more and more sure and become over confident, climbing higher and higher…until his pick-axe doesn’t find a secure crevice, and he plummets, hurt by his own overconfidence.

To me, I’ll only go as far as ‘Shrek 2,’ because it compliments the first film, much the way TS2 did with TS1.

In regards to TS3, I’ll just say that I went into ‘Shrek the Third’ and ‘TS3’ (in their respective release years) daring them to slap me around and hit me emotionally.

TS3 delivered.

StT failed.

Just saw shrek 4 in 3-D, the best part(to me) was getting a toy story cup ‘n’ topper, a rex one, along with a toy story popcorn box and seeing the second Toy story 3 trailer in 3-D XD…seriously though shrek 4 was pretty decent, much better than the third one.

Huh. I saw Shrek 4, and I liked it. It wasn’t as good as the first two Shreks, but it was better than Shrek the Third. It was pretty darn funny at a couple of points.

But the audience has learned, and has expected this film to suck as well. The box office and reviews are dissapointing for a film I actually enjoyed, but it’s good - destroys Pixar’s main competition Dreamworks for the summer. Toy Story 3 will take the box office by storm this summer.

Well… until Harry Potter in the winter. But let’s celebrate Pixar’s victory over Dreamworks this year.
