i have to add to my signature- combat carl never gives up. combat carl always finds a way.
and, i yelled, THAT WAS AWESOME fight after it.
my brother sat there yakking about why im watching it.
i was also wearing a big stupid grin.

i want MORE!!!

Ah, speaking of references and nods to the main films. I’m pretty sure Pixar/Angus MacLane intended to make this TV special that can connect thematically to all 3 of the films, with an added twist (the scary theme). [spoil]Let’s see: Carl and other ‘victims’ that join forces for the rescue are very similar to Sid’s mutant toys in TS1, not to mention Mr. Jones is the parody of Scud; kidnapping toys (toynap?) for commercial purposes is definitely parallel to TS2; and as you mentioned, this is another prison escape, just as exciting and breath-taking as in TS3.[/spoil]

Now I need to watch it again somewhere to find all the Easter Eggs that they hide. I can never do it during the first viewings, as I’m usually just sucked into the stories.

i want them to put it on netflix or something quick

do you think al bought them?

I liked it, though it wasn’t quite what I expected. It didn’t really fit the title much. [spoil]If you ignore the opening where they watch the horror movie. The pricklepants commentary felt forced, like they had to shoehorn that in to remind us its meant to spoof the horror genre. It wasn’t as funny as I hoped it would be, but I was entertained non the less. Very nice animation, looked just as good as the theatrical releases if not better in many instances. The whole Jessie being afraid of being inside boxes was a bit weird considering she had no problem at the end of toy story 3. I guess I can rationalize that as she doesn’t like being alone in boxes, especially in unfamiliar environments.

Was I the only one thinking the next half hour special (if that is still happening) might take place at billy’s house? That’s where the end credits seemed to be hinting at. Maybe I’m over thinking it though.

I noticed they used the beeping sound for the transformer character.

I kinda wish it wasn’t another prison escape, just because its been done. Would like to see what they can do without relying on nods, parallels, whatever you want to call it.[/spoil]

how couldyou not LOVE it?

al still seemslike a good bet, though.

Kyle: For something longer than a 5-7 minutes, it’s inevitable that they’ll fall back to some beaten path. For a short, you can do joke-a-thon (Hawaiian Vacation) or a quirky thing like Partysaurus, but when you have to put together an ‘adventure’ with a full-fledge storyline for a set of well-known characters, it’s extremely hard to come up with something more original. Yes I wish it was more laugh-out-loud funny, but too much of that is distracting given the main theme is scary/horror/suspense.

Had to say. I thought this was freakin’ AWESOME!

I agree, the plot definitely wasn’t too original, MANY parallels to the first three movies, but it was still entertaining. Glad they focused on just 7 of the toys, it got a little hectic in the shorts with how little screen time each character had to share.

I agree the animation was great. [spoil]I liked seeing the photographs of the toys for eBay, as well as seeing the toys in toy mode on the shelf; they looked pretty much like real toys there.[/spoil]
I also enjoyed the few throwbacks to past Toy Story films and such - [spoil]as Kyle said, the sound the Transformer made was very similar to RC’s, and Bonnie was wearing a shirt of the penguin dude from Small Fry.[/spoil]

Overall a decent special. I just have two questions:

  1. [spoil]Why did the police show up at the end? The manager guy was obviously the antagonist but he didn’t do anything illegal.[/spoil]

  2. What was the goo that Rex stepped in? It was a motel
 :open_mouth:

[spoil]He steals from the customers. It’s at least a misdemeanor. Also, he can’t just point to Mr. Jones and say “He did it!” now can he?[/spoil]

^[spoil]Well, he sort of does. He didn’t steal the toys right from the room. He took the toys that were already in areas outside of the customer’s rooms where they weren’t supposed to be anyway.[/spoil]

[spoil]Iguana slobber.[/spoil]

It’s pretty clear in short; Jessie only panics when she’s isolated. She’s fine when she’s in the backpack with everyone else, but once everyone leaves, she starts feeling confined.

Nope, Potato Head was the first to be captured, and he was safely in the room at that point. It’s assumed that the other toys were taken in a similar fashion. Jessie and Carl were also within a room when they were taken.

Saw the short for the third time this evening- Thank you xfinity Comcast.

Some stray observations (Spoilers Ahoy!):

[spoiler]*Bonnie’s Mom drives a hybrid. Her license plate reads “MCU726” with the border “I Break for Pizza Planet”. (interesting- I wonder if that’s related to Bonnie now owning the aliens?)
*The owner of the Motel’s name is “RON TOMPKINS” (in case any of you were wondering).
*The type of printer is a “Rogue DBM340”. This might seem trivial but consider that “Rogue Printers” are essentially printers that are installed on open networks without other’s knowledge and that the hotel offers free Wi-Fi.
*In addition to stealing Toys, Ron apparently steals other objects from unsuspecting patron’s knowledge. The items listed for sale include:

Camera
Game Buddy
Video Camera
Sunglasses
*All of the Toys listed on Ron’s Board are:
ZIPPER MAN (parody of Super Man)
SNAPS (???)
SPEED LACER (Speed Racer)
POCKETEER (Disney’s Rocketeer)
COMBAT CARL 4’’
WATCH
FORK LIFT GIRL
LEGO BUNNY
PEZ CAT
TRANSMITRON
POTATO HEAD
STEGASAURUS
GERMAN BEAVER (AKA Pricklepants)
T-REX
COWBOY
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR
COMBAT CARL 12’’
COWGIRL
*The Pocketeer has approximately 11 pockets and 7 of which are non functioning
*On Ron’s computer, the observable post it notes read “BRAND NEW DAY”, “NEVER IGNORE A MAN’S COURTESY”, “DON’T FORGET TO
” and “I AM BETTER EVERYDAY”. It appears like Ron has trouble with low self esteem.
*In response to all of your thoughts- YES. AL was the one who placed the winning bid on Woody. The Mailing Address for Woody reads

Al’s Toy Barn
1001 W Cutting Boulevard
Tri County Area, 94856

*The return address reads

"Ron Tompkins
31 State Farm Road
Tempe, Arizona
85820

*Bonnie is wearing a DJ Blue J T-Shirt, as well as her necklace from TS3
*On Ron’s Desk we can see a white Luxo Lamp[/spoiler]

HAHA! Knew it! [spoil]Looks like he’s still at it 10 years later![/spoil]

[spoil]I also had the idea that Billy may have been the baby from Tin Toy, but the timing wouldn’t match up, as Tin Toy was before Toy Story.[/spoil]

YES! I WAS RIGHT! THANK YOU FOR NOTICING!

hed be pretty weird-ed out when he saw andy on his boot

The goo on the floor was conditioner because While everyone was still inside the backpack MR potato HEad said he was going to go find something for his wife,“Little soaps
SHAMPOo”

Finally got to see it and I LOVE IT 8D

I believe there was a DJ Blu-Jay lunchbox and thermos in Bonnie’s luggage as well.

So yes, I loved Toy Story of Terror to infinity (and beyond! Hehehe Toy Story puns)! I’ve always known that Pixar can do amazing things in ten minutes or less, and now they’ve gone above and beyond in proving they can do it in 22 minutes as well! I look forward to further Pixar TV specials for sure! Some of my favorite things about it were:

  1. Jessie’s story arc; it worked perfectly with the story and it was just too great to see her in the lead on this. [spoil]And I totally understand
 I have claustrophobia too
[/spoil]
  2. The way it had the whole spooky feel, kept me on edge, and made me jump in my seat without it being unrealistic or unPixarish. [spoil]The actual situation was scary for them but more realistic than just a monster or ghost or whatever would usually be.[/spoil] More points for Pixar!
  3. Combat Carl is awesomesauce. Oh, gosh, I want a replica of him now

  4. And the usual things that make Pixar films awesome: humor, heart, and great characters
Oh, and the end credit gag. Made me bust out laughing 8D So seriously, put this on DVD and do it soon! It’s “terror-ific”!

now i also want combat carl. i also want the pocekteer and pals.
