I used a fur that I found at Joann Fabrics. It wasn’t on the bolts with the other fabrics, but in square foot pieces in the craft section. The fur should actually be more of a brushed out yarn type of fur…but the fur I found was a lot easier to work with, and all I really wanted was a little variety in the color of the fur itself.
Here is my own Mrs Potato Head I made.
It’s not as good as Wampar’s but it will do for now I guess.
She is a Toy Collection Mr Potato Head with the face of a normal Mrs Potato Head.
Here are the links:
Hey, Jordo789 you could sculpt Mrs. Potato Head some earrings, just by sculpting some yellow balls from Sculpey & attatching them.
i think there will probably be a mrs potato head in wave 3 of the toy story collection series when it comes out so I have decided not to sculpt any parts and buy another mr potato head to put them on until wave 3 hits the stores.
That is pretty good, jordo789! But how did you get the hat, facial features, and shoes inside the TSC Potato Head’s holes and cut the eyes so perfectly? ![]()
Snake&Robot: I will make some kind of earrings today because she really needs them
danielh1989: I hope shes in wave 3 to but the normal one looked horrible so I’ll use this until we hopefully get her next year ![]()
PixarFan3045: I basically just used blue tack, I put some on the back of the hat so it would stay in place, and stuck some behind each piece so it would stay. For the shoes I open up Mr. Potato Head and removed his shoes and made sure there was room for her feet, I know there not accurate feet but they’ll do for now.
do you know the name of that red figure you used for rockmobile
No. It was a generic action figure I got at the Dollar Tree. I spray painted it red.
Lovin’ the collection Wamper. May I ask where you pcked the magic slate up for the Doodle Pad from. I remember someone mentioning it before, but I could never wind up finding one…
Thanks. ![]()
Ebay. It was a Hot Wheels Magic Slate from the mid 80s that I got on ebay for like two dollars.
Phew! What a thread! It’s taken me a couple of days to read through all 179 pages! ![]()
I just started collecting after I saw TS3 at the cinema, so my collection is still relatively small, but it’s growing. Really inspired by your collection Wampar!

Anyways, here’s the customised figures that I’ve got so far (as I’m in the UK, the prices for TSC figures and things like the TS3 plushes and Hamm bank are rediculously high, so quite a few of these customs are more a way of saving money instead of buying TSC figures):
Mr Potato Head
I live in the UK and the Toy Story figure prices are sky high over here (£45 for a Toy Story Collection Buzz or Woody!). The new talking Mr Potato Head (that actually looks like the character in the movie) is £40 - and I refuse to pay that for something that is going to sit on display.
So I got the regular Mr Potato Head (£10 - much better price!) and sculpted (if you can really call it that given the simplicity of the shapes) him new eyes, eyebrows, nose, moustache and mouth…
Troll
I painted the bikini onto this one. I also swapped out the brown eyes that the troll came with for blue glass eyes (they don’t seem to make the trolls with blue eyes).
Troikas
These were a set of 5 blank wooden nesting eggs that I painted up to match screenshots.
Ken
I don’t like the clothes on the Ken and Barbie double pack, but I can’t find a vintage Rock Star or Animal Lovin’ Ken. BUT I found a really cheap Cool Times Ken - one of the best (i.e. most outrageous) costumes he wears in his wardrobe montage scene. So he will do until I find one of the other two outfits. I painted his hair brown (was blonde) and repainted his eyes (his iris’ were HUGE originally).
Lotso
The TSC version of Lotso is fantastic. Personally I can’t fault it. BUT, here in the UK it’s about £40 - a price I don’t really want to pay since it’s just for display and I don’t want the electronics. So I tracked down another full size Lotso (same height as the TSC version), with the same kind of fur on eBay. The tag that was on it says it’s only to be sold in Thailand, so must be some kind of exclusive (all other Lotso bears I’ve seen have some kind of velvety fur). It had stitched eyes, so I unpicked them and painted up two plastic hemispheres which I glued on instead.
I still plan to make him a wooden cane.
Emperor Zurg
Inspired by wampar, I managed to snag the same Zurg topped cup that he converted into his own Zurg figure.
Since taking this photo, I’ve repainted the dark blue to the correct purple, coloured his “lips” black instead of yellow, painted his hands a darker shade of grey and removed this faded chest emblem sticker and repainted that section on the proper colours. I still need to make the lower portion of his body though…
Chatter Telephone
Vintage chatter phone - I just sculpted eyebrows and glued them on. Completely changes the look of the guy.
So here’s where I’m at so far:
The alien is just a stand in until I manage to get the TSC ones from the US (it’s a bubble bath container)…
Zurg is still to finish, Slinky’s string hole has been filled and is currently drying and I have a Mrs Potato Head face to sculpt…
that mr potato head looks quite good actually. I don’t blame you for not wanting to spend all that money on a mr potato head. Its the fact that it has the stupid electronics with him that making him so expensive. Almost all my collection I have had to buy from ebay when complete my collection will have cost over £1000.
Awesome job HowlRunner!! That Mr. Potato Head looks amazing! and the Troll and Troikas do too! You are really good at painting. ![]()
Great Job, HowlRunner I saw the Potato Head and Chatter Telephone on the
Replica Prop Forum, where did you find that Zurg cup?
wampar do you have squeakers in your aliens ![]()
I to would like to know where to get a zurg cup.
When I was reading through the entire thread I came across Wampar’s post about his own Zurg which he made using a cup. So I searched eBay for “Zurg” and looked through all the listings. I just happened to get lucky and spot the cup (was described as a beaker I think). Although it was listed as rare, no-one else bid on it and I got it for the opening bid of £5.
Just a matter of trawling eBay every so often…
Finally I add some new stuff to my collection!
There’s a TS3 “Barrel of Monkeys” now?! Wow. I’ve been searching for a yellow barrel with red monkies for ages!
Do those ones have the holes in them, though?
