We barely made it through the main cast with the Toy Story Collection, and much of Wave 2 was scarcely seen in stores. By the time Wave 3 came around, there wasn’t much thought put into the continuing of the line. We’re going to get the main characters again, and that’ll probably be it; I don’t predict any fan favorites to be revived for the new film.
Heh, Toy Story .gifs are always perfect.
In reality, only time will tell for the fate of the merchandise. I would personally like for any toy company to just make accurate toys for minor characters but we all know that I’m just wishing out loud. Maybe the eve of Toy Story 20th anniversary might turn the tides? I’m not too sure myself but I’m excited to see where this announcement and Toy Story That Time Forgot will take us.
The line fizzled out because the movie had started to run its course, marketing wise. While I’m sure the main characters will get top priority once again, I still think they will slip in a handful of others in the vein of Zurg. It’ll be random and possibly bare bones, but it will be to scale.
Disney Store should take more risks with minor characters. Zurg was so popular that he was eventually sold separately. As of right now, they do not carry him on the website which seems odd. Re-release for the holiday season perhaps?
SpaceSheriff, you bring up a good point with the 20th anniversary in sight. No doubt we’ll get some sort of special re-release, I’m anxious to see what special features they’ll add in that department. In terms of toys, I can see a small promotion, maybe full sized Woody and Buzz to commemorate the originals, maybe we’ll see more Toy Story '95-oriented merchandise.
Though for The Toy Story That Time Forgot, I don’t see much happening. Toy Story of Terror only had small amount of merchandise in promotion.
And Kyle, Disney Store actually doesn’t rely too much on a recent film to put out a special product; like you said, there was Zurg, as well as the Bucket O Soldiers, and Hamm (though I think Hamm might’ve been closer to TS3’s release). There’s no particular pattern to Disney Store’s releases, though I guess the probability is a little better when there’s a film out there.
For Thinkway, Wave 1 was much in advance of Toy Story 3’s release, and mainly focused on characters from the first film. The second wave hit during the peak of Toy Story 3’s success, but that’s when they started to go downhill. I’ll agree that the multiple delays and changed plans hurt the release of the third wave.
You don’t think Zurg was made possible because of TS3? Even though it was at the tail of it, I’d still say that was part of the TS3 push. I doubt we would have ever gotten him otherwise. It was random in that he was only in the credits of TS3, but not That random. While Disney store doesn’t need an excuse all the time, they still need that extra nudge every one in a while for the more substantial stuff.
TS4, in my option, should give them the push they need to help us flesh out their back catalog of highly requested toys that never quite got a release.
One thing I would love to see Thinkway do is reissue, for a limited time, the original Buzz and Woody dolls form '95. Also, since the 15th anniversary of TS2 is coming up on the 13th (has it really been that long?), they could unveil something special but I highly doubt it.
Why would they need to bother re releasing 95 merch? They still sell the old style Woody and Buzz’s don’t they? Or at least they did a few years ago.
I don’t think we need anything that’s not more accurate than what we have now.
As far as redoing characters go, I wonder if they’ll do Jessie right this time. They were so close with the toy story collection, just change some of the fabric and thin out the torso.
Yeah I guess you’re right. I just thought it would be cool if they sorta did a throwback to the hot-selling '95 toys. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around when they were first sold but I have my brother’s '95 Buzz and Woody.
A lot of us need Stinky Pete and I would love a re-release of UB Buzz, since I didn’t get him the first time around. I still need to get Bullseye because I’ve asked for him for X-mas every time for the past, what, like 3 years and my pare-I mean Santa still hasn’t gotten him. I hope I get him this year though but we’ll have to see.
I’d expect to see the obvious contenders re-released for Toy Story 4, including Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Rex. Possibly also Bullseye and the Potato Heads. Maybe Hamm.
I think we’d have a good chance of a decently scaled Trixie. I’m not sure about Bonnie’s other toys or characters like Ken and Barbie. I’d expect Mattel to release some kind of “Toy Story” themed Ken and Barbie, but just like their releases for TS3 they probably won’t be screen-accurate.
I’m not sure what the chances of Stinky Pete are. I’d love to see him released, but it seems unlikely. Then again, Lotso remains a strong presence for merchandising, but that could be because he’s an adorable strawberry scented bear. It would be great to see characters from the shorts like Queen Neptune, Combat Carl and Lego Bunny snuck into the line somehow.
It will be exciting to see what is released in 2017. I remain ever hopeful for a Woody with an accurate toy-mode head-sculpt!
Lets start a strike out near thinkway and chain the front doors together to get what we actually want, since they won’t listen nor give a cluck.
Well I don’t think that will work. Then they’ll never be able to work on a way to troll us again.
Oh. But, in other counties they still sell the old school stuff. Just not the u.s of a
Hi guys! Maybe one of you can help me with this… Can anyone point me to a good base to build an accurately sized Reptillus Maximus figure? I’m going to try with a Neopets gladiator-dinosaur figure I found cheap on eBay, but I’m open to better suggestions…
I know this is off topic but does anyone know if Disney Store got Zurg back in stock? My Zurg’s elbow joint just broke today as I was trying to pose him for display. Hopefully they do because all I have to do is take him back and exchange him. Do you have to have the receipt or not if it’s broken? Cause if you do, then no new Zurg for me.

So you admit you broke your Zurg and now you want to defraud the Disney Store by returning it for another one? That’s lame.
^No. I’ve heard on Disney Store reviews of Buzz that they went to the store and told them that their Buzz was broken and they got a replacement. Plus, my Zurg came with the 2-pack with Buzz and I got him 2 years agp. Of course the Buzz was cheap plastic and broke when I was trying to pose his legs. They aren’t high quality toys
EDIT: Just called them and turns out you do need the receipt and of course, they stopped selling Zurg. What should I do? I’ve heard of people melting a screw or something and attaching it like that. I’m not just gonna use superglue cause then I can’t pose him.

There are a couple on Amazon for $50.
